MONTREAT, N.C. - Ruth Graham, who surrendered dreams of missionary work in Tibet to marry a suitor who became the world's most renowned evangelist, died Thursday. She was 87. Graham died at 5:05 p.m. at her home at Little Piney Cove, surrounded by her husband and all five of their children, said a statement released by Larry Ross, Billy Graham's spokesman.
"Ruth was my life partner, and we were called by God as a team," Billy Graham said in a statement. "No one else could have borne the load that she carried. She was a vital and integral part of our ministry, and my work through the years would have been impossible without her encouragement and support.
"I am so grateful to the Lord that He gave me Ruth, and especially for these last few years we've had in the mountains together. We've rekindled the romance of our youth, and my love for her continued to grow deeper every day. I will miss her terribly, and look forward even more to the day I can join her in Heaven."

IMHO, there is nothing more romantic than an elderly couple madly in love with each other.
By all accounts a lovely, Christian woman. I gotta say, part of me is a bit envious - she’s a lot better off than I am right now. Prayers up for Rev. Graham.
Thankyou Pegita. It is certain that these heartbreaks have driven me to my knees. Polly
Prayers to the family. Rest in peace Ruth.
They just don’t make women like that anymore. What an outstandning lady.
“I wont be surprised if he goes soon. They were a close loving couple and its been a long journey.”

Some people might think you’re cruel for saying so, but I hope you’re right. I actually prayed for that with my parents. When my Dad passed on, my mother was lost without him. They were married 50 years and they were a team in every sense of the word. But it wasn’t meant to be. Mom stayed on here for another 14 years. I guess that was just God’s plan. But they are reunited once again.
Anyway, rest in peace, Mrs. Graham. And may God comfort and strengthen the family and friends.
...there, fixed it
Amen.
No more pain, no more sorrow, the old things have passed away.
God Bless and Keep Mrs. Graham.
two poems by Ruth Graham.
We live a time
secure;
beloved and loving,
sure
it cannot last
for long
then—
the goodbyes come
again—again—
like a small death,
the closing of a door.
One learns to live
with pain.
One looks ahead,
not back—
never back,
only before.
And joy will come again—
warm and secure,
if only for the now,
laughing,
we endure.
And when I die
I hope my soul ascends
slowly, so that I
may watch the earth receding
out of sight,
its vastness growing smaller
as I rise,
savoring its recession
with delight.
Anticipating joy
is itself a joy.
And joy unspeakable
and full of glory
needs more
than “in the twinkling of an eye,”*
more than “in a moment.”
Lord, who am I
to disagree?
It’s only we
have much
to leave behind;
so much...Before.
These moments
of transition
will, for me, be time
to adore.
( I think these are from the book “Foreign Devil in China”)
Ruth Graham was not a Christian?!?
I don’t understand...
Read Billy Graham’s book. He wrestles with the irony that his wife never had a “born again” experiece. She knew the Lord from day one.
Perhaps this is where her son, Franklin Graham, seems to get his somewhat more reformed outlook.
I know that on occaision when they visited Dallas, they would worship in the PCUSA church that her brother (Clayton Bell) pastored. It is my recollection that one of her grandsons interned at a PCA church.
It is sad to see Ruth go, although to go home. It will not be long before Billy joins her, I am sure. I wondered a few years back what life would be like without Billy Graham on the scene, if his passing would be a significant event in our country/culture.
They have been faithful stewards of God’s gifts to them. We see few like them among us today. I hope that we will not soon forget them.
I had read that as well, when GWB said his wife was never born again she was born a Christian, Graham said it was the same with his wife.
