Don't run, Al. Don't! (Camille Paglia tries to warn dems)
Salon ^ | June 13, 2007 | Camille Paglia

Posted on 06/13/2007 5:49:05 AM PDT by tlb

The Gore boomlet betrays subterranean tremors of doubt. After two major televised debates by both parties, only a Pollyanna on helium would believe that any of the top-tier Democrats will definitely be able to defeat a leading Republican like Mitt Romney or Rudy Giuliani.

What was surfacing in Hillary was the old family psychodrama of the bright, brittle, high-achieving daughter contemptuously outflanking her befuddled, resentful, mediocre brothers at the dinner table. It wasn't a pleasant sight -- and all too reminiscent of the bullying Rosie O'Donnell compulsively hogging the spotlight on "The View."

The second Republican debate, in contrast, overflowed with spontaneous energy.

I continue to be alarmed at what I perceive as Republican momentum toward next year's national election. Democrats are already acquiring a dismaying reputation for underestimating the threat of global terrorism.

When Joe Biden tried to break out of captivity by boldly addressing the live audience, Hillary tried to match him by instantly raising her voice and keeping it at that abrasive level.

Nevertheless, Hillary's abundant negatives don't make a Gore candidacy any more attractive. Gore is a mass of frustrated yearnings and self-defeating vacillation.

What exactly were Gore's achievements in his eight years as vice president? What steps did he take at the time to shape public policy on global warming? What did the Clinton administration do to win U.S. adoption of the Kyoto accords? (Answer: next to nothing.)

Democrats who long for his return as the anti-Hillary may not realize how Gore has become a risible cartoon character for much of the country at large.

I love to read Paglia whether I agree with her conclusions or not. She is however like Cassandra, a prophetess without honor in her own land (ie- with dems).

The final nails in Gore’s coffin are the recently resurrected soundbites of Gore talking in 1992 in a campaign speech against GHWB. He sealed his own fate in that speech.

Someday, CP will be an excellent “dotty old aunt” for some lucky relative.

Amen to that. It's wonderful being able to actually read the opinions of someone who is not a semi-literate, and can reason in the real world.

Cassandra, indeed...

Tell that to the more than 50 percent of the population that now draw a government check or subsidy each month. Think they will vote for someone who promises to cut their income or one who promises to “take from the rich and give to the poor”?

Camile is a tough broad and I love her directness....she’s at her best in this piece....the Dems would do well to listen up.....we’ve all seen what guys like Gore, Nader, and Perot can do to an election.

Don't run, Al. Don't.

This chant, according to media reports, is being heard from the crowd wherever former Vice President Al Gore speaks.

It's because they're afraid he will eclipse Hillary, their annointed one.

Paglia, though a DIM, is intelligent.

Her lifestyle (LESBO), compels her to choose the dark side in politics. Lesson learned for the rest of us.

I'm going to have to review the history of that one. I'm wondering if the speech will get any on Her Heinous, also.

What, the World's Smartest Woman "couldn't recall" that her mate's running mate said all those thingees that are diametrically opposed to the current positions of The Sedition Party?

Was she baking cookies at the time?

Don’t count on it. Sent the Youtube link to a liberal wacko friend of mine and asked him if Algore was lying then or now. His response was “neither”. What he said was true in 1992 but it changed under Clinton and there was no threat in 2002. Expect the rest of the left to contort themselves into that ridiculous justification as well.
