This is the homestretch.
Call and e-mail your senators today, Republicans and Democrats, urging them not to table debate on this critical piece of legislation.
It deserves a fair and open debate of all ramifications. To do otherwise is unamerican.
Ask them to vote "NO" on cloture.
Keep bumping this to the top.
Today is the day.
for reconsideration ? as in voting AGAIN for the same bill ? Why ?
bump
Thank goodness for Rush.
So nice to have access to one who understands exactly what is going on, what is behind the scenes and the outcome to expect.
Hey, here’s a great idea! Let’s make the rules so complicated and convoluted that the people (us) will never know what is going on and then they can just tell us what to do, what to think and when to do it. sarcasm off
thx, sad but true tho :(~
I am no expert on senate rules, but I know that there are some rules that allow a person who voted no to bring it back up.
I think it’s possible that a person who voted NO can bring it back up. Someone else here mentioned that maybe some congressmen want to fool people by being able to say that they voted NO, when they did vote YES the 2nd time.
The public is pretty stupid. Maybe the democrats wanted to do a vote to see where everyone is on it so that they don't have to compromise more than they want to compromise.
gotcha.....a test the waters move then......
Oh! But they already do this... it's called "Income Taxes"
Now the vote has changed and another Sen. has a motion to reconsider ... calling vote again? What is going on. Is every Sen who was on the loosing side able to call for a new motion to reconsider????
I am slightly heartened that Webb (D-VA) voted no.
We have a big illegals problem in Northern VA (where he lives), and maybe he has a bit more conscience than the quisling RINOs.
Landrieu must have gotten some "feedback" on NOLA reconstruction and the huge number of illegal day laborers.
Wishful thinking.
Coburn Amdt. No. 1311, As Modified
To require the enforcement of existing border security and immigration laws and Congressional approval before amnesty can be granted.

And see the 'Not Voting' - saving face?
That is my understanding of the senate rules. I am not sure if that applies to cloture and/or the real vote after cloture.
I am thinking that the democrats will make minuscule moves to accept smaller GOP amendments, until both parties find one that they can agree with.
Don’t rule out the idea that this thing passes in the end.
It’s Reid that keeps calling for “motion to reconsider”.
http://thomas.loc.gov/home/votes/reconsider.html
MOTION TO RECONSIDER A motion to reconsider is a parliamentary practice that gives the House (or Senate) one opportunity to review its action on a motion, amendment, or measure.
Motions to reconsider are routinely laid on the table — or killed. If a motion to reconsider is adopted, it requires a vote be held again on whatever the House has voted to reconsider. Only Members who voted on the winning side may move to reconsider a vote. Members have been known to change their votes at the last minute in order to be eligible to offer the motion.
If the original vote on a question is close, enough members might be persuaded to change their position, or absent members could come to the floor, vote to reconsider, then reverse the outcome of the original vote.
Typically, however, after announcing the result of a vote, the Speaker states that, “without objection, a motion to reconsider is laid on the table.” This uses up the one opportunity to reconsider, and makes the result of the vote final.
Reid now wants to come back later after doing some arm twisting and deals in the back rooms!!!!
Reid kept voting “nay” against cloture so that he could invoke the motion to reconsider (per above, only the winning side can call for that motion).
Apparently that’s a common tactic for the losing side.
33/63, he has a big job ahead of him to get cloture today.
GRRRR.
