However, now I do not feel alone. Peggy Noonan has a new column up in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal. She has clearly said what has been getting me down. I think I knew what was up, but couldn't put a finger on it. I knew it centered around the immigration debate, and the way our congressional leaders are behaving. That sentiment especially includes Mr. Bush too, but when I read this column, I felt like Charlie Brown yelling at Lucy at her Psychology booth when he yells, "That's it!" when trying to identify why he can't get into the Christmas spirit.
Try this clip on for size :
The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.
For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.
But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."
The president has taken to suggesting that opponents of his immigration bill are unpatriotic--they "don't want to do what's right for America." His ally Sen. Lindsey Graham has said,

Good post, bttt.
It is really sad to see our own people attacking the Commander-In-Chief during wartime like this. I think this only emboldens the enemy.
No doubt about it, and that is why I am so sad about what is going on.
The best you guys can do is to stop this illegal immigration bill instead of fixing it to make it better but by you doing so you get absolutely nothing from you want you will get, absolutely nothing, everything will be the same as it is now and even worse. You will be keep whining about it from now until you die but it will not be resolved according to what you wish, the opposite will be true.
For awhile there I thought you were in control of your faculties. Your latest rants have now turned me off .
“At the risk of sounding disloyal, Ill be glad when Bush leaves office.”
Looks like he’s a one-world order guy, just like his dad.
The Monday morning quarterbacks run amuck. Or maybe a better analogy would be that the lineman are running a ground game and the receivers are running an air game, and the quarterback was blindsided by his own fullback.
Do I support the bill? No, not as written but, its a work in progress. What I want is to get something done and seal the borders, dry up the jobs, cut off the welfare, punish the violent criminals, bust up the gangs, and preserve Social Security. To get that, I want to kill the current amnesty program and give the ones that are here now that jump through specific , tough hoops a shot at citizenship. We also need an enforced guest worker program coupled with Visa enforcement. All of these things will work if we force the politicians feet to the fire and demand they make it work. I`m sure that there are other great ideas but, until we are willing to compromise on some things, we will get nothing and all we will have is more of the same. That is, til one of Hillorat`s judges gives the illegals everything
Moron.....you’re just a sychophantic moron.
That is probably one outcome. However, the enemy probably realizes we have fools (permanent and occasional) in America (all over the political spectrum) just as anywhere else - and in fact have long realized it before now.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment.
“Nominate Duncan Hunter instead.”
Yep.

2. Duncan Hunter originated the fence along the Mexico-U.S. border decades ago in order to cut down crime against illegal immigrants. Today, that fence (a double fence) is 14 miles long. It has cut smuggling (people and drugs) over 90% and has drastically reduced the 10/year murder rate of illegal immigrants by removing the mobility of the cross border criminal gangs. It has eliminated the major cross border drug automobile chases. The crime rate in San Diego as a whole is 44% as compared to the pre-fence crime rate. A large scale extension of the fence (700 miles long) was authorized in the 2006 bill Secure Fence Act of 2006. His efforts over some 20 plus years have brought the fence to be considered as a major instrument of immigration policy and border control.
No more so than how emboldened they are by our flagrant disregard to secure our own borders, and our ridiculous proposal to grant instant "Z-visa" status to *ANYBODY* with a gas bill predating 1/1/07, after a criminal background check that must be completed within 24 hours (yeah, right).
They must be laughing their asses off at our complacency and naivety. That is, if they are not completely stunned in disbelief....
Oh, they are emboldened, all right. You can count on it.
Then he went silent?
Why have there been no prosecutions concerning Slick's China Fund Raising?
I believe they are all on the same page.
Go to sleep.
The bill hasn't passed yet; it's still pre-game.
Well, he provoked a response.
God, I hope a lot more people respond, too, or we will not have a country anymore.
Well we don’t exactly have an amnesty, we have a period of non enforcement, which is a big difference, when we finally decide to get rid of them it will be a lot easier than if they have been “legalized”
The proposed bill is nothing but smoke and mirrors, and is unenforceable. We don’t have comprehensive murder, robbery or fraud laws and we don’t need comprehensive immigration laws. AMNESTY will only promote more illegals just like it did last time, it is no compromise it is a capitulation. They are waiting in Los Angeles and Tijuana for this thing to pass with prepared fraudulent evidence of residency and employment ready to sell as we speak. There will be no investigation of the applications and fraud will run over 50%.(just like 1986) You think there are 12 million illegals here now wait till the greatest giveaway in the world’s history begins. Oklahoma sooners will look like pikers. There also will be no enforcement down the road, the triggers are worthless. It is in fact worse than last years proposal. Just remember if George Bush and Ted Kennedy are for it, it is very bad indeed.
It is designed for one thing and one thing only and that is to fool the public into buying that is is a solution. It is a fraud.
