One caveat, based on the following quote:
“the din of liberalism is tantamount to chinese water torture on the intelligent mind”
Beyond that, Adios...

Ouch—that’s gonna leave a mark.
How long have we here struggled on FR with our support of President Bush? I know I’ve been battling myself about it, but what Peggy Noonan writes in her article is true. We, the conservatives, are going to have to take our party back because President Bush is NOT one of us and he does NOT care about the base at all. It’s now time for us all to rethink many things and decide where we are going in the future and where the party is going.

I agree, its time to take the party back for the conservatives. These country club Rockafeller/Bush types will be the ruination of us.

This issue aside.
I remember a few weeks ago when it appeared that everyone inside FR was distancing themselves from Peggy Noonan.
Remember?
We like those we agree with I guess.
Anyway - good article (this time) Peggy Noonan.

It simply isn’t logical to expect a political party to last forever. People would like it to be so because the birth of new parties is so painful and gives away the advantages of power to those whom members of the dying party dislike.

She’s right. Neither Bush ever had to really work his way up. They inherited political power from Prescott, but it was “country club Republican” power. Never mind that they moved to Texas. A big part of their thinking never really left Greenwich, CT. I was loyal to Bush up until now. But he is so out of touch with reality on immigration that I can no longer support him.

Wow! I’ve been reading Peggy for years, and she tends to be a glass-half-full type. Rarely does she go negative. The fact that even Peggy Noonan is disgusted with Bush shows just how low he has sunk.
A couple of months ago, I mentioned in a thread here on FR that the moonbats should quit trying to impeach Bush over Iraq. Instead, I said I would support them if they went for impeachment of Bush because of his refusal to secure our borders and enforce the laws on the books. Well, several Freepers dogpiled me and said I was just as bad as the DUmmies. Perhaps I was just a bit ahead of the curve...
Now here I will start treading close to “Loose Change” type whackiness: Bush has been pushing for “comprehensive immigration reform” for years. Is it possible that, upon leaving office, he has been guaranteed millions upon millions of dollars in speaking fees, board seats, and presidential library donations should he sign an amnesty bill?
OK, one more thought. Maybe Bush is trying to accomplish what has never been done before - a zero approval rating. Now that would be something!

I am still astonished that in the last two presidential elections, Bush seemed the better of the two given candidates. How bad was the other choice that an inept, tounge-tied goober like Dubbya looks like the better choice? And yes, I still believe that a president Gore or Kerry would be even worse. I for one am disgusted and have been for a long time, but I an wondering why and how we keep getting such arrogant inept elitists who seem to hold no greater vision than to their own personal ambition, personal dream (legalizing millions of his preferred “chosen people”), and monied cronies both on the right and left.
For me in particular Bush has lost what remained of his remaining respect because of the underhanded way this illegal immigration has been intentionally mishandled. Refusing to secure the border in any meaningful way even after 9/11, and the high profile prosecutions of the small force of border agents actually doing the job Bush refuses to do, and now his fingers all over the massive giveaway amnesty bill gives me a portrait of Bush as just another self-serving, corrupt monied elitist who's allegiance is only to those within HIS personal sphere of influence. Conservatism for Bush is just a useful tool to be twisted and corrupted as he pleases to serve his personal interests and nothing more. Yes, unlike Clinton he actually has core beliefs, but they are strictly personal - No theoretical underpinning needed.
