Mironov Tells Kyoto Experts The World Is Getting Cooler
By Simon Shuster
Staff WriterSergei Mironov
ST. PETERSBURG -- It was a failure from the start. Russia's biggest conference on the Kyoto Protocol, which aims to fight global warming, began with a speech from a top official who denied that global warming even exists.
"In reality, the scientific basis for the protocol is fairly weak," Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov told a crowded opening session of the two-day conference Thursday, which drew more than 200 environmental experts and carbon market participants from around the world. "In the opinion of many experts, the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere does not have any effect on the climate."
On this point, Mironov stands on the fringes of global scientific opinion. A growing consensus has formed among top scientists and politicians, who have been warning governments to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases being spewed into the atmosphere. The Kyoto Protocol, first signed in 1997, created a system of financial incentives for doing this.

He should have checked with Pelosi first. Apparently, she “saw the climate change” first hand.
“which is why people believe the left over the right in matters of science”
The Left ALWAYS believes what feels good, and this is what modern science has evolved into (just turn on the Discovery channel or National Geographic channel), real science is based upon truth, not feelings. Please read some more.
But NANCY PELOUSY says shes seen it firsthand !!!!!
Don't bet on it: the rest of the article is apologism for the cult of global warming, citing anonomous "top scientists and politicians - convenoently not mentioning that vanishingly few of the members of the "consensus" are meteorologists or geophysicists etc.
I have it, thanks.
The kids at the local public high school don’t seem to have gotten the environmental message; they are incredible litterbugs.
Don't leave out Scientific (un)American. They are right up there with the leaders.
Would that be Needles, South Carolina? :-)

Nope, just felt like it sometimes. Back in the seventies we had some spells when it was well over 100 for a week or longer with steam bath humidity levels. We haven’t had weather that miserable for a long time and yet we keep hearing on the weather channel that it is “hotter than normal”, I don’t believe a word of it.
The temperature today is in the eighties with humidity in the forties and it is almost the start of June. I have seen times when the first week of May was hot enough to make today seem like heaven on Earth.
I think you have confused Growth with Growth Rate. Indeed, the Growth Rate has declined since the mid-60’s, but World Population continues to grow, and is not expected to head downwards until the middle of this century.
Oh, I know it. I grew up on John’s Island , south of Charleston (no, I don’t speak Gullah). I was just wondering what town in SC was getting all the high temp records.
global cooling- yet another inconvenient truth!
What most don’t realize (in the enviro wacko crowd)...is that as the earth gets hotter the CO2 rises. Not tha CO2 rises causes the earth to get hotter.
In fact, on Planet Earth they had a thing about CO2 is trapped in water. So it would seem to me that has the heat rises the CO2 gets released from bodies of water causing the increase in CO2.
Consider her lucky!! If she spent 4 years in a Public School, she would have nothing to show for it but the ability to place a condom on a cucumber!!
carbon market participants from around the world
Does that include the ones on ebay?
As it has been said before, “climate change” = “the weather,” and the weatherman can’t even accurately predict the weather next week.
Sometimes, the Russians are refreshingly practical. On the other hand, walking around in Moscow is like sucking straight from a Greyhound tailpipe. You can literally feel the pollution in your lungs. For the Russians to employ a comprehensive pollution-control strategy, they would go bankrupt in a hurry. Or even more bankrupter.
