Rosie O'Donnell has fought her last fight at "The View." ABC said Friday she asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract at the daytime chatfest following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday. She was due to leave in mid-June.
It ended a colorful eight-month tenure for O'Donnell that lifted the show's ratings but no doubt caused heartburn for show creator Barbara Walters. O'Donnell feuded with Donald Trump and frequently had snippy exchanges with the more conservative Hasselbeck.
O'Donnell said last month she would be leaving because she could not agree to a new contract with ABC executives.
"Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,'" Walters said. "I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
In a statement, O'Donnell said that "it's been an amazing year and I love all three women."
No one was feeling the love on Wednesday, when the argument with Hasselbeck began over O'Donnell's statement last week about the war: "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"
Talk show critics accused O'Donnell of calling U.S. troops terrorists. She called Hasselbeck "cowardly" for not saying anything in response to the critics.
"Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe," Hasselbeck retorted, and their riveting exchange continued despite failed attempts by their co-hosts to cut to a commercial.
According to a New York Post report, O'Donnell's chief writer, Janette Barber, was allegedly led out of the building on Wednesday after she was caught drawing mustaches on photographs of Hasselbeck in "The View" studios. ABC executives didn't return repeated calls for questions on the incident Friday.
On Thursday O'Donnell had asked for a day off to celebrate her partner's birthday. "The View" aired a taped show on Friday.
On her Web site, O'Donnell posted a scrapbooklike video on Friday with pictures and news clippings of her tenure at "The View." Cyndi Lauper's "Sisters of Babylon" played in the background.
A day earlier, she posted messages on her Web site indicating she might not be back.
"When painting there is a point u must step away from the canvas as the work is done," she wrote. "Any more would take away."
The parallels with the 'toons leaving the Whitehouse are eerie: stealing "W" keys off keyboards, jamming file cabinets, and assorted other vandalism. Identical behavior.
Sick animals.......
She was nasty way before that. After the 1996 presidential election, before she had her own show, she was a guest on a talk show and made the statement, "Bob Dole sucks". Shortly after that, Family Circle magazine did a fawning article on her, calling her the "Queen of Nice". I wrote a letter to Family Circle as follows:
24 April 1997
Your Letter, FC
110 Fifth Avenue
New York, NY 10011
"To the Editor:
"You are incorrect in presuming that everybody loves Rosie ODonnell (Family Circle 05/13/97. This woman may be a trendy pop icon, but to me, shes just another ill-informed, left-leaning Hollywood airhead.
"Her mean-spirited and vulgar comment about former Senator Dole during the 1996 Presidential campaign (Bob Dole sucks!) for some reason was not even noticed by the Political Correctness police, another indication of the double standard by the media.
"She certainly is entitled to express her opinion, however ignorant it may be, but I find it disgusting that this woman is lionized and admired without equivocation, when she is merely a highly-paid entertainer, not even fit to shine Bob Doles shoes.
"Senator Dole has given more to our country and suffered more for Rosies freedom to crudely express herself than she and her ilk will ever know."
At some time we have to stop making elephants dance...

I was very proud of Elizabeth this time. From what I’ve small parts I’ve seen of the show, she’s usually too meek. She spoke out finally. The clip was great. Rosie was patronizing (again) and Elizabeth didn’t put up with it. Good for her.
Rosie’s huge loud mouth talks over just about anyone she’s debating. I would like to see Rosie and Danny Bonaduce go at it.
Now I know to not see an Alicia Silverstone movie.
I wonder if I should send Ms. Silverstone some steaks to congratulate her on her appearance on "The View".
Bad, dog, Rosie. No donut!
I’d like to think you’re right, but I’m sure a vast majority of those in the studio strongly agree with her, and they would find nothing wrong with rude, obnoxious, even criminal behaviour if it is against conservatism.
I don’t know why we ever kid ourselves and expect more from msm.
That’s one scary hog.
Not mean enough.
Equals a Standard DEMORAT Today:-(
You forgot ugly. (and yes, she could have fixed the "ugly" 'cause it's coming from her soul)
Dean Wormer to Flounder?
No translation needed for this one. Much to her credit, Baba's being very candid and truthful.
I’ll take two please, with a glass of milk.
Bonaduce would kill her. Have you seen that video of Danny eating at a restaurant street cafe when some leftist moron came up asking him how he stood on Bush and Iraq, etc?
Danny gave it to him in spades. Said he voted for Bush twice, respects him and wants to kill our enemies. He then turns to a couple of ladies at the next table and says, “excuse me ladies, but I’m going to use some harsh lanquage” and started cussing out that left wing fool.
I was hoping he’d deck him! lol You can probably find it on YouTube.
Those of you (and there are a lot of you, including my husband) who don’t understand the damage that can and has been done by rosie & “people” like her are out of touch with pop culture & its impact on things like, oh, our lives.
Whether you want to believe it or not, a far too large amount of people (women) watch this garbage every day, and it impacts their “feelings” and it impacts their voting & thus impacts our country and our lives. I talk to these women every day (or I nod my head pretending to listen to them). Think of the power oprah has.
Yep, second hit on the search. I should have gotten if before I replied last time.
