I got the impression that Sgt England didn’t believe the TSA guy and called Bullshit on him and asked to see proof.

I think you are carried away. No doubt that there are some bad apples, like in every profession, but most Police officers are good people who have very tough jobs.

The problem with Tasers is that they can easily be abused by police officers who are too lazy or impatient.

Being a police officer and being that out of shape is actually unprofessional and clownish enough in itself.

Your letter was absolutely perfect. Concise and powerful. What is the email address for their IA dept?

I guess you are referrig to people like me. Police officers (I find the word “pig” to be the kind of disgusing word I’d expect from the professional anarchists, anti-war (anti-America really) protestors and similar ilk) have a very tough job and from my experiences are very good and decent people. My first reaction whenever I hear about a police incident is to wait for the facts to come out, but I expect that the police were in the right.

In this case, it is clear that Sgt. England antagonized them a little and they went way overboard. Police officers should be held to a higher standard and these police officers should be fired.

Uhm, one has to be an activist in order to know this information? Ever heard of the search engine called Google? If you had been tasered 3 times you would probably look up information on it too. I have never been tasered but I’ve come to the conclusion that tasers can be an effective tool, but they are also prone to abuse.

IMO, on balance, less lethal force has saved a LOT of lives, and I support it. I do not support it being abused. That being said, something like the taser is going to be around for a while, if nothing else, because of the presence of female officers.

Here is one area that is going to be crucial and difficult for the officer to defend.

"His partner then runs up and without any warning what-so-ever, fired his taser at me. This had the effect of shutting down my CNS and causing me to fall head 1st into a metal door frame. While I lay there, They then tased me again to get me to comply to their commands. When they told me to roll over again and I couldn’t and begged them to stop, they tased me a 3rd time to get me to comply. All of this was done disregarding LVMPD tasering policy.

The officer is going to have to justify his actions per the policy and per his training. He is going to be asked if he complied with the policy, and he will be questioned in minute detail about the policy. Then, he is going to be asked if it is consistent his training and experience that once a person has been tasered, that the person will be able to comply with commands to perform phyical tasks. If he answers in the affirmative, he is going to have to overcome expert medical testimony. If he answers in the negative, then the question will be "Then why did you taser him again, knowing that he could not comply?"

I think many agencies would love to have all their officers be in top physical shape. However, many agencies have out of shape management, and out of shape female officers with huge asses. If they go after the male patrol officers, it will cause a huge problem with consistency of enforcement.

Oh, it just seemed like very detailed information and it was quite awkward given the tenor of the posts.

But why did you respond? Surely you have no more informed data on his state of mind than I do.

I do appreciate your speculation, though.

Welcome to FR and God bless you for your service. If you ever make it to Michigan I have an unopened bottle for single malt scotch that I’ll pop open just for you.

As a lawyer I’ll advise you not to say to much here. Save it for the depositions. But hang around because you’re among friends here.

Cops are psychological misfits... A great many of them.

They are supposed to pass a profiling and in this profiling they are tested on their anger, the control there of. A lot pass because they know ahead of time what to say and how to act. But after they get the badge and gun, they resort back to their personal vendetta of payback for being picked on too much in highschool...

Sue the Bastards, and then go after them personally with law suits. Ruin ‘em...

I agree with you. It can save lives if used properly. I don’t necessarily think 3 officers should have to wrestle someone to the ground.

It should simply be justified. I hope the questions you outlined have been asked.

Out of shape mgmt is a bigger problem for the reason you mentioned. You can’t be an effective ldr if you are a hypocrite.
