HINT & TIPS Welcome to the FReeper Canteen Hints & Tips that can be make your life easier. Or not! Hopefully, you'll find something here that will make your life easier. Or maybe someone you know could use one of these ideas. If you have a hint or tip of your own, be sure to leave it behind before you leave the Canteen. Ma can always use helpful ideas on how to keep the Canteen clean with all the youngsters running around. Let's start with some general household hints.
*** Use of soap wrapper: Don't throw away the wrapper after removing a bar of soap. Place it inside your shoe cabinet or shoe box. It's a cheap way of filling the air with a nice smell. *** If your polished furniture has small scratches: Try rubbing them with a shelled walnut. You'll see the scratches just disappear! *** If you have problem with slippery shoelaces which refuse to stay tied: Rub them with a candle and make them less slippery so that knots stay put. *** To keep lint and dust off glass top tables, wash them in a solution of warm water and fabric softener. Add one tablespoon of liquid fabric softener to one quart of warm water. The fabric softener will clean the glass inexpensively and will help keep lint from gathering on the glass. Also great for computer screens and TV's *** Don't throw away odd socks or socks with holes in them, use them to make a mop. Tie several socks (10-12 works best) to a mop or broom handle and use just like you would a regular mop. White cotton socks work best for this project and by the time the "sock mop" wears out, you'll probably have plenty more socks to make a new one. ***Get rid of pet hair on upholstery effortlessly by wiping the furniture with a slightly dampened sponge. Good morning, WriterInTx
Those are some great hints.
This one was I'd never heard of before and will give it a try: If you have a stubborn stain in your carpet, try non-scented baby wipes! They grab almost every stain out of the carpet. Once it dries, though, go over the area with a damp clothe to pull up any leftover soap.
Also, a word of caution on the Lysol hint...I've read that Lysol is dangerous for animals.

((LOL))Well, not really but usually when I wake up I eat a couple of peices of bacon and a waffle for breakfast.
Chuck and I have been checking my wieght lately. Usually a man my age (43) and about 6"3 should weigh about 180 or 190 but I've been weighing in at 174.
So, he been fixing breakfast which also includes eggs.
He's also having me cut down on the sugar in my coffee. I usually have been putting 3 or 4 spoons full.
Yesterday I check my weight and it came in at 176.
All-in-all a normal day for me.
((HUGS))Good morning, Ladypilgrim, GodBlessUSA. How's it going?

COOKING WITH THE CANTEEN
(another recipe for asparagus lovers)
Smoked Salmon and Asparagus Quiche
An easy pat-in-the-pan crust makes quiche making a snap!
Prep Time:20 min
Start to Finish:1 hr 30 min
Makes:6 servings
1 1/2 cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon onion salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons milk
1 package (3 1/2 to 4 1/2 ounces) smoked salmon, flaked
1 package (10 ounces) frozen asparagus cuts, thawed and drained
1 cup shredded Havarti cheese or Monterey Jack cheese (4 ounces)
3 eggs
1 cup whipping (heavy) cream
2 teaspoons chopped fresh dill weed or 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1. Heat oven to 425°F. Mix flour, sugar and onion salt in medium bowl. Beat oil and milk in measuring cup with fork until creamy. Pour oil mixture over flour mixture; stir until dough forms.
2. Pat dough on bottom and side of ungreased pie plate, 9x1 1/4 inches, or quiche dish, 9x1 1/2 inches. Sprinkle salmon over crust. Cut off bottom one-third of each asparagus spear; reserve top spear portions. Chop asparagus ends; sprinkle over salmon. Sprinkle cheese evenly over asparagus.
3. Beat eggs, whipping cream, dill weed, salt and pepper in medium bowl with wire whisk. Slowly pour egg mixture over quiche ingredients. Arrange reserved asparagus in spoke fashion on top of quiche.
4. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 325°F. Bake 40 to 45 minutes longer or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. If necessary, cover edge of crust with strips of aluminum foil after 10 to 15 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.

Substitution

Special Touch
Garnish servings of quiche with additional fresh dill weed.

This sound delicious. I do not care for salmon but maybe substitute something else. I love asparagus, the cheeses and the dill weed.
