Our planet is just five years away from climate change catastrophe - but can still be saved, according to a new report.
Planet is five years from disasterThe World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) warns governments have until 2012 to "plant the seeds of change" and make positive moves to limit carbon emissions.
If they fail to do so, the WWF's Vision For 2050 warns "generations to come will have to live with the compromises and hardships caused by their inability to act".
"We have a small window of time in which we can plant the seeds of change, and that is the next five years," James Leape, from the WWF, said.
"We cannot afford to waste them. This is not something that governments can put off until the future."
Between now and 2050, the world's energy needs are expected to double.
But the Climate Solutions document says technologies already available could be harnessed to produce enough sustainable energy to power the planet while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 60-80%.
The WWF report also states that nuclear power is not necessary to cut carbon emissions.
The finding is in stark contrast to the UK Government's insistence upon the need to go nuclear.
Keith Allott, head of WWF-UK's climate change programmes, said: "This report shows that although the scale of the climate change challenge can seem daunting, it can be tackled provided we act with real urgency.
"We can slash carbon emissions and meet global energy demand without resorting to the red herring of nuclear power.
"The big question is whether the world's statesmen will have the strength and vision to make this happen - and Britain will be key to that."
Does this mean that we’re gonna have a new ice age in 5 years? I’ve always wanted a pet mammoth.
When did this happen ?
Until someone proves to me that GOD is no longer in charge, I shant worry.
I say let’s start saving the planet in 4.99 years. Until then, lets burn some fossil fuels!!!
Will I still get the money promised to me when I retire?
to paraphase P.J. O’Rourke
Did Chicken Little have an agenda?
Balony!
The source is SKY NEWS. Should be THE SKY IS FALLING NEWS!
“If they fail to do so, the WWF’s Vision For 2050 warns “generations to come will have to live with the compromises and hardships caused by their inability to act”.”
Don’t they realize that our generation has to live with the compromise of having to see published all these dipchits who would have our country disappear, which would cause they themselves to disappear?
“Drinking milkshakes cold and long...”
“Five years, my head hurts alot...”
“Does this mean that in 5 years, we can do whatever the crap we want?”
A better question is, “Why do you listen to these idiots and why aren’t you doing whatever the cr@p you want to do RIGHT NOW?” LOL!
“The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) warns governments have until 2012 to “plant the seeds of change” and make positive moves to limit carbon emissions.”
These are the same idiots that CONSTANTLY send me shill letters asking for money and including page after page of self-stick address labels for me to use. How they got my name in the first place, I do not know.
Now, I ask you...what good “Enviro-Wacko” would do this? How many “carbon emissions” are released in the printing and transporting and mailing of these stupid address labels from their door to mine?
What a bunch of dorks. See my tagline. You’d think THAT sentiment would settle the debate once and for all. :)
Now, please excuse me while I eat an imported 80% cocoa, Rain Forest destroying chocolate bar while I toss an old car battery into my creek, just for the fun of it! *SMIRK*
No, just a WEEK!
LOL!!!
Gloom and doomers looking for ways to have you live the life of a third world country with taxes dollars supporting it.
Global warming is a sham and so it this nonsense.
If Hillary wins, these dire predictions will be instantly revised. It’s got nothing to do with science, and everything to do with politics.
“Good. Does this mean that in 5 years, we can do whatever the crap we want?”
YES!
Hey Al, is that you? With people like you on this planet it may not be worth saving.

Great ! That means only 5 more years of Howie Mandel and “Deal Or No Deal”
