LEFT LANE DRIVERS of AMERICA

“If you’re not a Left Lane Driver then get out of the Left Lane!”

Traffic has become increasingly congested and tempers flare as slower drivers occupy what has been historically referred to as the “fast lane”. It’s time to get that Left Lane back! It is our considered opinion that not only will traffic move more smoothly and more quickly once the Left Lane is used in the way it has been designed but also headaches, frustration, bad tempers and road rage will all be greatly reduced when this pressure valve is released. It’s time to reduce this unnecessary stress. It’s time that… LEFT LANE DRIVERS UNITE!

We invite you to join Left Lane Drivers of America, a growing, grassroots effort to reclaim the Left Lanes on our freeways and multiple lane highways. To do this, those of us who are genuine “Left Lane drivers” are politely but firmly reminding others what the Left Lane is for.

Well,the car's engine suddenly died!

Far as I know there is no preventative maintenance for engine computer failure.

Otherwise known as tailgaters, speeders, and wreckless lane changers.

That's a total misconception.

Yup, they screwed up the aero.

Sadness. They fixed the frame flexing and blew the aerodynamics. Time to go back to school, guys.

I'll have to keep my ought-three until they figure it out. I hope it doesn't take them too long.

Mrs. NCSteve is drooling over the S-Type, even though I keep telling her it is really just a Lincoln LS. Proof positive that marketing works!

Physics is just the way things work.

All that is wonderful, but my response was to your assertion that it was impossible for billbears' car to get better gas mileage at 70 than at 55. You just rebutted your own argument.

By the way, mechanics is just the way things work, physics is the rules. Mechanics allow me to have a car that gets better gas mileage at 70 or 90 than at 55.

Texas Transportation Code, Chapter 545, Subsection 541.041(b):

“An operator of a vehicle on a roadway moving more slowly
than the normal speed of other vehicles at the time and place under
the existing conditions shall drive in the right-hand lane
available for vehicles, or as close as practicable to the
right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, unless the operator is:
(1) passing another vehicle; or
(2) preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.”

***

No mention is made of “unless the operator is already travelling the speed limit.” It says, if you are going slower than the other vehicles, YOU MUST MOVE OVER.

As for “the idiots blowing past you”, perhaps I should enlighten you on the perfectly legal exceptions (at least here in Texas) to the speed limit law:

Medical emergency - transporting someone to the hospital.
Doctors rushing to a medical emergency
Ministers and priests rushing to see a dying patient
Skywarn volunteers while tracking a storm (or running from one)
Volunteer firemen rushing to the station
Reserve police officers rushing to the station in an emergency callup.
Guardsmen and military rushing to base in an emergency callup.
Persons fleeing for their life from someone who has or appears to be intent on committing vehicular assault (been there, done that, got the police report).

I can list more. And none of these people would be displaying any external markers on their vehicle, or it’s optional for them to be displayed. Sure, they have to pull over for the officer, but once they explain the problem, they get a police escort.

O.K. you are a poopyhead.

Liberals often ignore the laws that apply to the "little people";You assume that because your car is better(faster) than Joe Average Taxpayer that you are entitled to special privileges. That appears very much in line with liberal philosophy.

Do all you LLDs also push little old ladies out of your way at grocery stores?

The drivers ed handbook used to be about sportsmanlike driving, rules of the road, and defensive driving. It appears some people may have gotten hold of a satirical short story titled "Drive Offensively" and thought it was a driver's manual.

The amusing part about our first-gen XK8s is that the chassis is from the earlier XJS... which is a modified version of the original XJ short wheelbase chassis... the longer version of which is under my 87 XJ6. There are some chassis braces you can buy that will fix the chassis flex on the car, by the way. The problem is that it’s still got the nose-heavy handling issues (the V8 is farther forward than the V12 was in the XJS) and it takes some careful tuning to dial out what you can.

Nothing is more frustrating than a Mr. Magoo driving in the fast lane.

I once drove to Reno from Sacramento on I-80 (about 100 miles) ALL THE WAY IN THE FAST LANE!! It was early Saturday morning and I did it just to see if I could. It was funny that most people who came right up to my bumper could have effortlessly passed me on the right (no traffic). But some persisted, getting closer and closer to my car. Usually I put my left turn signal on, and they finally passed me, thinking that they could never win. And what about the cops? I have driven over Donner Pass hundreds of times and have never been pulled over. They are too busy giving tickets to the folks who passed me going 90!

Now here is how the decal looks in the rearview mirror of a slow driver in the fast lane...

Someone drives that red beer can with wheels behind me that close and I wouldn't even see the roof and mirrors, much less the silly sign at the top of the windshield.

Psst - one of my cars, posted earlier, cost $800. The other one cost $27,000.

That’s less than some people spend on their bimboboxen and family sedans.

Two or more Mr. Magoo drivers driving side-by-side is called commuter hell.

This is a simple, "boxing someone in" tactic used by road rage provocateurs. I do it all the time. Someone is on my a$$, and it makes me mad. So I pull up to a car going slow, and I stay there for 20 miles. The person behind me is going insane!! And I am chuckling all the way.

Psst - it’s *illegal* to pass on the right in most states, as it is considered unsafe. This is why everyone wanted you to get over.

Not so fast, Sparky. Liberals are the people who create law upon law, aiming to make criminals out of half of society. Liberals are the ones who invoke "fairness" and "equality."

Civil disobediance is a uniquely libertarian notion.

So who is the liberal here?

Do all you LLDs also push little old ladies out of your way at grocery stores?

Only if they're walking slow in the left lane.

The drivers ed handbook used to be about sportsmanlike driving, rules of the road, and defensive driving. It appears some people may have gotten hold of a satirical short story titled "Drive Offensively" and thought it was a driver's manual.

Agreed. All those clueless morons putting along in the left lane should really re-read the manual. Impeding traffic is definitely one of the most offensive and dangerous road behaviors I can think of.

In all the time I have been posting on FR, nothing ever provoked such a strong reaction as when I admitted that I don’t always move over for autobahn drivers.

You just rebutted your own argument.

No, I clarified the argument. I indicated that drag at 70 is only 1.6 times the drag at 55. At 110, the drag is 8 times as much as for 55 mph. These high performance engines are tuned for the higher speeds, and that is why they get poor milage at lower speeds. Air drag is not the controlling issue at lower speeds. Fuel economy WILL NOT increase as higher speeds are attained. Do you disagree with that? (Otherwise, you'd be able to get 60 miles per gallon at 200 mph.)

Mechanics allow me to have a car that gets better gas mileage at 70 or 90 than at 55.

Physics prohibits your claim at higher speed. No amount of mechanical ingenuity will defeat the increase in drag as the velocity increases. Ordinary friction does not increase with velocity. Air drag increases with the CUBE of velocity.

What do you suppose limits the speed of cars? The correct answer is "air drag". If you have a different answer, please enlighten us. Shape and profile rules change once you go supersonic, but the drag is still based on the cube of velocity.

You cannot win your case. This is just fact.

Part of sportsmanlike driving is moving/keeping right to allow others to pass, and not playing Mr. Passive-Agressive Barney Fife Wannabe, and camping out in the fast lane.

If you didn’t learn this in driver ed, I suggest you revisit that chapter.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gave the finger too after passing a left lane slow driver (on the right) and then literally tried to cut them off a little.

Do you and your car want separate burials after I peel you off my front grille guard? :)

You have serious passive-aggressive issues. You should get help.

I hope no one takes a shot at you out there. There are a lot of nutcases.

I’ve got to correct one issue that developed in my older brain. Drag is related to the SQUARE of velocity rather than the CUBE. The end result is the same, however: speed of a car is limited primarily by drag.
