Tunes For The Troops

This week we have some progresive music from the late 60's thru the 80's.
Next week we'll move along to the 90's & 2000's along with some progressive metal music.

Progressive rock, sometimes shortened to prog or prog rock, is a subgenre of rock music which arose in the mid-to-late 1960s, reached the peak of its popularity in the 1970s and has continued as a form of popular music to this day. It is commonly associated with symphonic rock and art rock.

The selections below are just a sampling. This music is provided for the entertainment of our Troops, Veterans, Allies & their families!

Enjoy the varity of musical selections that the Canteen Deejays have provided throughout the thread. Please ping LaurenMarlowe with your requests for the Troops.

All music is removed on Monday.
Thanks to all the DeeJay's for their time & effort providing entertainment for the Troops!

Their first album was by far the best IMO. When they were the opening act for Yes: Relayer they put out wall of nice-sounding folk rock. Not so popular as the top-40 types, but accomplished musicians.

I've heard few better pure-music live acts. DeGarmo & Key, and Asleep at the Wheel come to mind.

DeGarmo & Key were Christian rockers I saw at the Nat'l Guard Armory at Alamogordo NM in the early 80's. Less than 200 people showed up because the local preachers said rock was "of the devil". They didn't care, they put out the highest energy level for 2 straight hours I've ever seen.

They must have lost big money putting on that concert in spite of the opposition.

I saw Asleep at the Wheel in Portland, ME in the late 80's. Their lead guitar/vocalist could do anything with ease, rock, blues, country, jazz, Texas swing....he did a long solo at the end of one song, you could close your eyes and swear it was George Benson up there, picking away....

Yes: Relayer was a most awesome experience with their Roger Dean animated stage prop and laser light show. And Jon Anderson's blazing-fast keyboard solos. His fingers were a blur he was so fast.

I saw Yes a few years later when Rick Wakeman had returned on the keyboards. He seemed lazy and uninspired to me. "Only in it for the money".
