Good for Duncan Hunter! He did very well. He just wasn’t given enough time to stand apart.

Redstate has declared McCain the winner.

On a thread with 33 comments?

I got the impression they were about like us, thinking that if anyone won, it was Romney. They seemed to think that McCain did better than we did but no real enthusiasm for him whereas we all just hate his guts but would vote for him in the general if we had to.

Redstate has some loopy opinions from its management, I've noticed. JimRob never goes as far as they do over there and JR is more even-tempered and consistent over time. At FR, liberalism and conservative-bashing are curbed but management doesn't do some of the editorial stuff Redstate does.

Ron Paul talks about a Constitution I remember as a girl; fewer Americans remember that time. It was freer than today, by a longshot. I like Paul, but he does not seem sufficiently effectual. It is a shame, because America could use 8 years of someone like him! It would be like a full shot of Reagan.

I agree 100%

He changed his words, but that doesn't change his record.

He still supports embryonic stem cell research, but hides that behind opposition to public funding of the research and to human cloning.

Romney's stem cell view may upset the right
Use of excess embryos at issue
By Scott Helman, Globe Staff | February 11, 2007

In the heated debate among conservatives over whether Mitt Romney deserves their vote, the focus has been largely on whether his big swings to the right on social issues are sincere.

But on the charged issue of stem cell research, he's facing conservative criticism of a different shade: that he hasn't swung far enough.

Unlike many on the right, Romney supports research on excess embryos created during fertility treatments. Because couples are making embryos to have a baby, he reasons, it is ethical to use the leftovers for research when they would otherwise just be discarded.

Romney's position, however, is at odds with the views of many conservative anti abortion activists, who believe that any work on stem cells derived from human embryos is wrong, because it destroys the embryos in the process. Some say Romney's views make him unacceptable to many voters and will complicate his attempt to win the 2008 GOP nomination by appealing to the party's conservative flank.

Romney also opposes a Human Life Amendment to the Constitution, and thinks states should be able to allow the killing of unborn children if they want to. He has said many times that he doesn't think we should have a "one-size-fits-all" approach to abortion.

“how utterly irrelevant and juvenile many of the questions were”

I totally expected the Democrat annex team of Chrissy, some washed out WashPost guy now at politico and of course mr objective himelf, the baseball card analyst - to do the liberal Dem bidding.

Or that it would be difficult since Libby was a part of (in his opinion) the deception that lead to the invasion of Iraq?

What does that have to do with what Libby was charged with? Sounds like jury nullification and OJ jury logic to me. It was an incredibly stupid statement to make and unbecoming of a presidential candidate.

It's a fair question. How do your accomplishments compare to those of this man that you denigrate as being "phony"?

Like Afronaut, you have nothing significant to offer, no answer to make.

Phonies do not accomplish what Romney has accomplished. If he was a con man, he would have been found out a long time ago. He has won and he continues to win because he is genuine to the core.

You'd better be careful. PMSNBC might read your comments, hire you, and then you'd have to spend the next year and a half talking politics with Chrissy Matthews and Keith Obertroll.

I'd end up like Savage.

I agree with the assessment that McCain won the debate. He said all the right things. Unfortunately, I’m aware that we can’t trust the old goat as far as we can throw him. But he SAID the right things and that’s what winning a debate is all about.

Mitt didn’t say anything wrong, but his overall demeanor was way too slick for my taste.

Rudy was just all over the place on federal funding of abortion.
Its a womans right and the Gov should subsidise.

Well sir it effects more than the Mommy, and the Gov has no business subsidising it.

Rudy stinks

First of all, you've never come across to me as a fellow conservative. I doubt you have the capacity to be a conservative.

In recent days you've said, you'll support and vote for Rudy should he be the nominee.

Then you denounced all conservatives as hurting the troops and America if they didn't vote for Rudy. A big insult.

Tonight you said, at post #940, that ending Roe v Wade and abortion on demand is not worth the effort. The typical position of a pro-choice liberal RudyBooster.

I started nothing. All I've done is repost your words and comment on your anti-conservatism. Nothing more, nothing less.
