You have a point there, Godzilla.
However, France does have a “youth” problem; so all angles are examined.

4 Mexican policemen slain south of Arizona border
Associated Press ^ | May 16, 2007 | OMAN NEVAREZ

HERMOSILLO, Mexico The bullet-riddled bodies of four Mexican policemen were found today about 20 miles south of the Arizona border, and the anti-kidnapping chief in another northern Mexico state was reported to have been kidnapped.
Sonora state Gov. Eduardo Bours said a group of armed men had seized the Cananea city police officers hours before they were found dead. He did not give a possible motive for the killings.
Mexico has seen a wave of attacks on police, military and intelligence officials as the government battles drug gangs.
State police were sent to reinforce security in the town.
Meanwhile, authorities in the northern state of Coahuila reported that men disguised as Mexican federal agents had kidnapped the state’s chief anti-kidnapping investigator.
Lucio Tello, a spokesman for the state attorney general’s office, said that Enrique Ruiz Arevalo, director-general for investigations of kidnapping and organized crime for the agency, has been missing since Monday, when he was seized as he ate breakfast in a restaurant.
The four kidnappers carried rifles and wore black uniforms with the insignia of the Federal Agency of Investigation, Mexico’s equivalent of the FBI, when they grabbed Ruiz Arevalo and another agent in Torreon, 310 miles southwest of the U.S. border at Eagle Pass, Texas.
They released the other agent hours later. He said he had been blindfolded, roughed up and insulted.
Tello said the attorney general’s office knew of no motive for the abduction.

Police probe video on how to disrupt trains
BILL CURRY
From Wednesdays Globe and Mail
May 16, 2007 at 1:32 AM EDT
OTTAWA A video posted on YouTube offering detailed instructions for disrupting train traffic has triggered investigations by the police forces for Canadas two main rail lines, CP and CN.
The 3½-minute video surfaced on the Internet this week. The video was filmed at night showing a person standing over a train track. The person provides a step-by-step guide to setting off the red emergency lights that tell train conductors to stop immediately.
Mark Hallman, a spokesman for CN Rail, said the measures outlined in the video are extremely dangerous and urged YouTube to pull the video.
[The video] depicts illegal activity and highly dangerous behaviour and this is obviously a source of considerable concern to the railway, he said. This could have serious safety repercussions.

The anonymous video simply states that it was produced by the railway ties collective.
The video begins with white words on a black screen stating that there are more than 800 native land claims pending in Canada and disrupting rail service could encourage provincial and federal governments to resolve them more quickly.
Though the video makes reference to Mohawk blockades in Tyendinaga and Caledonia, one sentence in the video suggests it might have been made by non-natives.
By halting the freight and passenger rail service, we who support indigenous struggles for dignity and fairness will show governments that indigenous people are not alone, it states. When Justice Fails, Stop the Rails.
Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice said: I think its irresponsible and I think it should be taken down. Someone is going to be hurt. I call on all chiefs, the national chief in particular, to ensure that doesnt happen.
Phil Fontaine, the national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, urged those who are viewing and sharing the video to hold off on such measures, but did not say how long that wait should last.
I urge caution to those people that have accessed this information [in the video], he told reporters Tuesday. Give us the opportunity to see if we can secure the kind of commitment that will change things here.
Both CN and CP have federally regulated police forces that have the same powers as other forces.
A spokesperson for the RCMP said they too are aware of the video but could neither confirm nor deny whether the RCMP is also investigating the matter.

KABUL
The theft of 250 kilograms of explosives from a Whitehorse business over the weekend is under investigation, RCMP say. Cpl. Grant MacDonald said RCMP learned Tuesday afternoon of a break-and-enter at Yukon Pump, a mining and construction supply business in Whitehorse.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that thieves broke into the building over the weekend and stole 10 boxes of an explosive blasting agent weighing a total of 250 kilograms. The business operators did not notice the materials were missing until Tuesday morning. The stolen boxes contained two cartridges each of a "putty-like substance" in white plastic tube-wraps with the word Tovite written in red on each cartridge. Each tube-shaped cartridge is about 13 centimetres in diameter and 90 centimetres long.

Gas May Have Harmed Troops, Scientists Say
NY Times ^ | May 17, 2007 | IAN URBINA
Posted on 05/16/2007 10:43:37 PM PDT by neverdem
WASHINGTON, May 16 Scientists working with the Defense Department have found evidence that a low-level exposure to sarin nerve gas the kind experienced by more than 100,000 American troops in the Persian Gulf war of 1991 could have caused lasting brain deficits in former service members.
Though the results are preliminary, the study is notable for being financed by the federal government and for being the first to make use of a detailed analysis of sarin exposure performed by the Pentagon, based on wind patterns and plume size.
The report, to be published in the June issue of the journal NeuroToxicology, found apparent changes in the brains connective tissue its so-called white matter in soldiers exposed to the gas. The extent of the brain changes less white matter and slightly larger brain cavities corresponded to the extent of exposure, the study found.
Previous studies had suggested that exposure affected the brain in some neural regions, but the evidence was not convincing to many scientists. The new report is likely to revive the long-debated question of why so many troops returned from that war with unexplained physical problems. Many in the scientific community have questioned whether the so-called gulf war illnesses have a physiological basis, and far more research will have to be done before it is known whether those illnesses can be traced to exposure to sarin. The long-term effects of sarin on the brain are still not well understood.
But several lawmakers who were briefed on the study say the Department of Veterans Affairs is now obligated to provide increased neurological care to veterans who may have been exposed.
In March 1991, a few days after the end of the gulf war, American soldiers exploded two large caches of ammunition and missiles...

A Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad responded to the scene around 9:40 p.m., said Lt. Jason Lee, a police department spokesman. No explosives were found.
“We found out that it was an inert round,” Lee said. “No explosives, just a shell.””
