My husband used a drug called Chantix to quit, it’s been 72 days of smoke free LIVING.

It will be 2 years in June since I quit smoking. I can say that in the last month I have almost quit missing cigarettes. Yesterday I was very stressed and thought about smoking, but it is easier than in the beginning.

Quitting’s easy. I did it dozens of times.

I have set my date to quit smoking. 12 May 07. It is my birthday and I can not think of a nicer present to give myself.

These were my symptoms:

At eight hours: Nerves were figity, wanted a smoke.
At 24 hours: Skin was crawling, mouth was dried out, felt like I was going to be sick.

At 72 hours: Three days of living hell, felt sick as a dog. Could not concentrate on a damn thing.

At Three months: Felt great, the worst passed after about a week. By three months it wasn’t an hour by hour thing, only thought about a smoke several times a day.

At 4 months: Quit hacking up those phlem balls from my lungs.

At 13 years: I only get the urge when I smell a freshly lit cigarette. After that it’s nauseating.

Good luck! I’ve been tobacco free since July 28th, 2006. It was tough but ultimately so rewarding in the end.

As my mom lay dying from smoking related causes I had a long talk with the respiratory tech and she said that basically, if you quit by 45-50, your body will rebound almost 100% in a few years, quit after that and the benefits go down.

Nevertheless, stopping smoking whenever has to help.

Good luck!

I quit on December 8th, 2004.

2 hours before I had a heart attack and flatlined.

Haven’t had one since....

Congratulations! My father was never able to completely quit smoking, even after a nearly fatal heart attack at 47 years old, that the doctors partly attributed to his smoking. When he didn’t die in the hospital, they sent him home, thinking that he would die shortly. He fooled them and got out of bed for the first time, six months later, and then started sneaking a smoke when he thought he could get away with it. He died at 51. It’s not worth it. Just stick with it.

I’m glad that you quit, Mr. Conners, but please don’t turn into a smokenazi. Smokenazis stink worse than grimy, old ashtrays.

Congratulations. One should never become a SLAVE to some dried plant leaves wrapped in a little paper container.

To all you folk who have quit - remember it’s still a good idea to get a chest x-ray with your annual checkup for the first few years - or so says my MD.

I'm doing the "reduced dose" method. 1st week go to 1 cigarette every 2 hours. Second week go to 1 cigarette every 3 hours, third week, 1 cigarette every 4 hours, etc. Control the dose and you can control the heebe geebies. Take control and you can do it. I'm not blowing my own horn, I'm just saying that it has worked so far.

A cigar, a good cigar, helps me on those tough days. I'll stop cigarettes, but you stay away from my cigars.

I quit cold turkey November 1, 1986.

Smoked and drank myself sick the night before in preparation!

Good for this man, 'listening'to his 9 yr. old grandson! I never got into the habit of smoking. I guess Mama and Daddy's hacking and coughing dissuaded me, plus the cousins my age who I hung around with, didn't smoke, either. My youngest sister ran with a rowdier crowd, and she started smoking at about 15, and at almost 50, is still smoking like a chimney!

Now if I could just get myself into the discipline of eating less and exercising more, I could have a real shot at seeing some grandchildren grow up, and maybe even see some great-grands!
