~Nicknames ~ George Herman Ruth, Jr. (February 6, 1895 August 16, 1948), also known as Babe, The Bambino, The Sultan of Swat, and The Colossus of Clout, was an American Major League baseball player from 1914-1935. Ruth is regarded by many historians and fans as the greatest baseball player of all time, due to a combination of his on-field accomplishments and records; his significant roles both in changing the way baseball is played and in establishing the New York Yankees dynasty; and his resulting worldwide name-recognition. He is a charter member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The cat, nicknamed Macavity, has one blue eye and one green eye.
The cat was nicknamed Macavity after the mystery cat in T.S Elliots poem. He gets on the bus in front of a row of 1950s semi-detached houses and jumps off at a row of shops down the road which include a fish and chip shop.
Driver Bill Khunkhun, 49, who first saw the cat jumping from the bus in January, said: It is really odd, the first time I saw the cat jumping off the bus with a group of passengers. I hadnt seen it get on which was a bit confusing.
The next day I pulled up on Churchill Road to let a couple of passengers on. As soon as I opened the doors the cat ran towards the bus, jumped on and ran under one of the seats, I dont think any of the passengers noticed.
Because I had seen it jump off the day before I carried on driving and sure enough when I stopped just down the road he jumped off - I dont know why he would catch the bus but he seems to like it. I told some of the other drivers on this route and they have seen him too.
Since January, when the cat first caught the bus he has done it two or three times a week and always gets on and off at the same stops.
Passenger, Paul Brennan, 19, who catches the 331 to work, said: I first noticed the cat a few weeks ago. At first I thought it had been accompanied by its owner but after the first stop it became quite clear he was on his own.
He sat at the front of the bus, waited patiently for the next stop and then got off. It was was quite strange at first but now it just seems normal. I suppose he is the perfect passenger really - he sits quietly, minds his own business and then gets off.

I read the book BABE RUTH: THE LEGEND COMES ALIVE by Robert W. Creamer back in the 70’s. There is a picture of him at 18 years old. What a monster! Not an ounce of fat, just muscle. He was not always fat and unathletic looking.

Nickname's,What's` your nickname? Gee, it's been years since I told the tale, so I'll take a crack at it...
Even though I had been online for years ( 1981, 300 baud modems... ) I was new to the Web, and belonged to a few other forums, mostly Right To Keep and Bear Arms boards, under the JohnR nic.
Started going through the registration process here, and ( insert stream of cusswords ) every screenname I could come up with was taken.
I had been welding brackets on my backhoe ( yep, I had one at the time ) all day, and in frustration, typed in "backhoe..."
Son of a Sea Cook, it went through!
In retrospect, I wish I had just used my proper name here, and elsewhere, but I seem to be stuck with being The Heavy Equipment Guy...
( And user of too many ellipsis... )

My high school nickname was “Sarge”. It’s with my picture in the yearbook (Class of 1983). I kept my hair in a buzz-cut and wore my dad’s cast-off M-65 field jackets and combat boots (he was USAF).
Years later as an Army Sergeant I went to a HS reunion and had pictures to show that my nickname had come true.

Today's FEEBLE
YOKE:
When everybody on earth was dead and waiting to enter Paradise, God appeared and said, "I want the men to make two lines. One line for the men who were true heads of their household, and the other line for the men who were dominated by their women. I want all the women to report to St. Peter."
Soon, the women were gone, and there were two lines of men.
The line of the men who were dominated by their wives was 100 miles long, and in the line of men who truly were heads of their household, there was only one man. God said, "You men should be ashamed of yourselves, I created you to be the head of your household! You have been disobedient and have not fulfilled your purpose! Of all of you, only one obeyed. Learn from him."
God turned to the one man, "How did you manage to be the only one in this line?"
The man replied, "My wife told me to stand here."

WELCOME TO
Good morning, Everyone. Good morning to our AWESOME Military, our allies, and their families.
DC Metroland weather report ~ Today...Generally cloudy. High 64F. Winds E at 10 to 20 mph. ~ Tonight...Showers and scattered thunderstorms. Low 57F. Winds E at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%.
Thank you, fatima, for preparing the Canteen for today's activities. I was called a lot of "not-so-nice" things by my siblings and I won't share them here. I have a modified version of one my dad gave me years ago from a tv show we watched but I don't plan on sharing it here either. Only a few people refer to me with that nickname these days.
I am back home now. Got home about 11 last night. Let me tell you, the crazy weather seems to be following me. I get to Santa Fe on Saturday and it was windy, chilly, and at one point, hailing. It was just starting to warm back up when I left yesterday. Now I get home and it's going to be rainy, today and tomorrow. It does look like our temps have stablized some. Oh, well. I think I'll go shopping in a bit. Got some flower planting to do this weekend, which BTW looks like it'll be nice.
I know I have a lot of catching up to do and I hope to get caught up by tomorrow. Right now, I have to make my way through the Canteen to see whatz been happening.
But, you stay right where you are. Don't touch that dial. Don't change that channel. Put down that remote. Don't leave the room. Keep your eyes on your monitor. Cause...............I'll be bock!
And, for the rest of you
..
Now remember, the Canteen is
So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS
REMEMBER THEM

Good morning, Canteeners, Cubies, Newbies & Troops! The nickname here is “Funky” because I LOVE Motown music and because I play a pretty wicked bass guitar for a white boy. Hope you all have a great day today and are all enjoying the return of global warming. Also, I will follow Sheryl Crow’s rule on toilet paper use when she demonstrated that she can use one sheet of toilet paper to clean peanut butter out of a piece of shag carpeting.

I had to clean up the little bit of mess from last night's storm. No damage other than a few plants in the garden and three broken tree limbs. Hmmm... seems like I thoroughly botched the job!!!
Just wait... I'll be back soon to complete the project!!! ;-))
