Codey 'upset' over focus on Corzine's speed, seatbelt

Posted by The Star-Ledger April 20, 2007 3:19PM

Categories: Corzine crash

Acting Gov. Richard Codey said he's "a little surprised and a little upset" that so much of the public reaction to Gov. Jon Corzine's auto crash injuries has revolved around how fast his SUV was traveling and the fact that he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

"I am a little confused and baffled by all the talk about no seatbelt and how fast, when someone is in such grave condition that we would focus on that, both by the public and the media," Codey said during a press conference in Newark about campus security.

What does he expect? If Corzine had been wearing his seatbelt he’d probably be home by now.

Slap down the little people, how DARE they get uppity and expect law abiding behavior and accountability from a Demaogogue and his political retinue?

Then I guess he won’t be surprised when no one pays their speeding tickets now that the state doesn’t think it’s a big deal...?

A) If they hadn’t been going so fast, the accident likely would not have occurred.

B) If Corzine had been wearing his seatbelt, as STATE LAW requires, he wouldn’t have been hurt as badly as he was.

C) Since A & B are relevant to the issue, people will talk about them.

Well, you see, sir, the deal is this. If people wait until the guv has recovered from his condition, the time to point out he brought it on himself by ignoring laws he was elected to enforce, will have passed.

In other words, strike while the irony is hot.

The fact that the Governor’s lackeys tried to cover this up and blame it on some poor schmoe pickup truck driver also ads fuel to the fire...

They can’t blame the driver/trooper....he goes as fast as the gov requests he go. And the trooper can’t tell the gov to wear his seatbelt.....it’s not his job or position to do it.....so, yes, it all goes back to the @$$hole in the passenger seat!!!

The seatbelt was a danger only to himself, but going through a congested area at 90 MPH was a danger to everyone else. It’s just damned lucky he didn’t kill a whole bunch of other people. I’d say people have been pretty restrained, all things considered.

and I think a lot of people are just pissed off enough as it is with SUV’s tailgating them 90 mph every day of the week... that’s bad enough... but when the governor is doing it too, with flashing lights?

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the original report said "speed had nothing to do with it." and the driver of the white vehicile saying that the governors car and his were both going 65.

Oh yeah and the fact they called it a hit and run and blamed it on the guy in the red truck.

Gee, I feel sorry he hit the ground and died. But, who am I to judge him for not wearing a parachute.

Codey is upset about the focus??? The Governor broke several laws and the Lt-Gov is upset about the focus?? Oh, wait, I forgot that the laws of the states are only for conservatives.

Yes! it’s terrible that the Governor of New Jersey has to follow the same traffic laws that your average motorist has to follow. Too Bad.

He was endangering the lives of others, seriously. For a bunch of people that are major league anal about endangering others via second hand smoke, Codey’s attitude should entitle him to a trip to the woodshed. Moron.

I don't know the laws of NJ....

but driving over the posted speed limit and not wearing a seat belt are against the law here in Illinois.

Even our Governor, the Ken Doll looking fellow who lives in Chicago and not the Capital of our State Springfield, is above the law.

The people can say any damn thing that they want. Codey and Corzine are merely servants of the people. Corzine’s accident makes him an injured person. Nothing more, nothing less. I hope for his full recovery, but this was definitely an accident that was preventable.
