Since the relief happened while the Ike was in an Arabian port, there is a good chance that it has something to do with something that happened while ashore there. Alcohol in an arab port?

No, they will give him two hundred men and send him out to fight the whole Sioux Nation.

I’m retired USAF JAG. Is that the incident in Alaska you are talking about? I think it happened in 98 or 99.

Prowlers are ELINT, ferrets. Their mission is to get 'lit up', the more the better. It's a ballsy job.
I doubt there's any of the sexual harassment or personality conflict issues with his CAG. Losing 'confidence to command' sounds like internal problems with his squadron or performance deficits or both. Anyway....he's through, the Navy is unforgiving.

I received a reply today from an email I sent to a young Lt JG friend who is stationed on the Ike. He's an EW officer riding in back of one of those ugly birds, (VAW 125.)
The relieved Commander lived in the room next door to his though this whole deployment.
The Capt who fired him is my friends bosses boss.
He wouldn't give me any of the poop about what's going on. He was most amazed that we'd heard about it already since it only happened last week.

5 days on the JOB!
Could he be an individual like the Captain in Clint Eastwood’s movie “Heartbreak Ridge” was a supply officer specialist and got transferred to the wrong job?

Well...it made it into Stars and Stripes. Next week Congress will hold hearings over the firing?

Nope this happened at Moody AFB in the early 80’s around 1984.
Poor guy didn’t make it ONE full day as squadron commander.
They had the change of command ceremony in the AM and his party was that evening.

And they wonder why the O club is in decline?
They used to have "Nickel Beer Night" at the O club, then the SP's would set up a DUI checkpoint a block away.

I’ve got lots of “How the mighty have fallen” stories from my USAF days. Vice Wing Commander stopped for DUI with a 23-year old female sergeant with him. Three-star stopped for DUI on base, then the Wing commander fired for covering it up. Squadron Commander arrested after a 4-year incestuous affair with his daughter, etc, etc.

Just reattached from 8 AF to AFSPC - I think the ratio has changed from your (SAC, now ACC) 2:1 to 1:2, but there’s always somebody there to prove the rule!

Background checks when one reaches or just before they reach this level of command can sometimes reveal some potentially bad behavior/connections that was unknown or ignored.
