With all the excitement surrounding the possible candidature of Fred Thompson for the GOP nomination, one question remains unclear: where does he stand on the rights of the unborn?
Is Fred Thompson pro-life? As President, would he stand up for the most defenceless of Americans?
Your comments are much appreciated.
I’ve seen this, no idea if it is accurate:

From everything I’ve read, including his voting record, YES.
National Abortion Rights Action League rating: 0%
National Right to Life rating: 100%
Yes he is...heard several different accounts this afternoon confirming his position...including comments by a reporter from the Weekly Standard who interviewed him for 4.5 hours!
He has an F rating from NARAL. His senate record is 100% pro life and he says RvW is bad law and bad medical science.
He’s a states rights guy though, so he looks at the whole thing from that perspective.
As if this hasn’t been addressed in at least ten threads in the last month.

Next, I looked up his voting record on life issues:
Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000)
Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions. (Oct 1999)

Then I decided to check out how a pro-life interest group, the National Right to Life Committee evaluated Fred on life issues:
“This morning, I cited reports being promoted by the pro-Romney blog Evangelicals for Mitt suggesting that Fred Thompson ran his two campaigns for Senate in Tennessee as a pro-choicer. Not so, National Right to Life executive co-director Darla St. Martin just told me.
St. Martin said that she went down to Tennessee in 1994 to speak with Thompson personally when he first ran for Senate, and that she determined he was against abortion.
‘I interviewed him and on all of the questions I asked him, he opposed abortion,’ St. Martin said. She told me that the group went on to support him in that election, and his record reinforced for her that their determination was correct.
‘He has a consistent voting record that is pro-life,’ she said.
On the NRLC website, they archive their congressional ratings back to 1997, so they include six of his eight years in the Senate. Thompson took the pro-life position on every vote he cast on the abortion issue...”

Next, I looked up how a pro-abortion interest group, NARAL, graded Fred on life issues:

Then, I looked up another pro-abortion group, Planned parenthood, and how it rated Fred on Life issues:

If you have researched enough to come up with that supposed quote, you know very well that he is pro life.

From what I read, he is definitely Pro-Life.
He has said that Roe v. Wade was bad law, and there was NO Constitutional abortion rights.
He also has said that the entire issue is something that only the States can address.
So says one source.
He denies that he was ever “pro-choice”.

Wait a minute, didn’t Mitt catch hell for flip-flopping on the subject?
Some people oppose Fred—and try to smear him—because his pro-gun stance offends their gungrabbing sensibilities.
He's not a die-hard right-to-lifer, he takes more of a libertarian view with the mother's rights to choose to abort most important in the first three months.
Thompson is pro-life.
He opposes Roe, opposes federal funding for abortions, has never supported Partial Birth Abortions and has never been the keynote speaker at an abortion banquet.
