Just heard anchorette report this on pMSNBC
If this is so, why did he obliterate the serial numbers on his weapons?
wow, what a great point!! Best post of the day and needs to go to Brit Hume.
“Cho Seung-Hui was declared mentally ill and “an imminent danger to others.””
Shouldn’t that have been entered into the state NICS (instant backgound) system?
martyr video?
I have no doubt NBC has a copy
Wow. 2005 declared Mentally ILL and this in the past hour. Good grief.
so in the two hours between the killings - he went back to his dorm, and took this package to the post office?
They must know it was mailed on the 16th, and that he couldn't have mailed it before the first shooting (too early).
Unless there was an accomplice.
In 2005, A Court Order by a VA. Special Justice declared Cho an "imminent Danger to Others"..etc...
Dear Lord..he should have been institutionalized..
sw
Breaking on CNN
“A court order from 2005 states that Virginia Tech killer Cho Seung-Hui was declared mentally ill and “an imminent danger to others.”
Shouldn’t that be posted as its own thread?
Dreadful!
Thanks for that.
BLACKSBURG, Virginia (CNN) — Cho Seung-Hui in 2005 was declared mentally ill by a Virginia special justice, who declared he was “an imminent danger to others,” a court document states.
Thanks for the clarification all... I haven’t been reading all the threads on this and hadn’t seen those about when and where he bought the guns. Sounds like the background check didn’t work.... What a sad shame.
Yes the reporter said they turned the “originals” over to Police..so they have copies Im sure
You would think so, but I’ll bet this falls under some medical privacy situation.
I surely won't be shocked if a clearer Islamic connection emerges - Ismail Ax, and the press/authorities seem to be dancing around something.
"A temporary detention order was obtained and Cho was taken to a mental health facility" on December 13, 2005, he said.
A student asking to be identified only as Andy said he was the one who told police that Cho was suicidal. Police "took [Cho] away to the counseling center for a night or two," said the student, who used to room with Cho.
Some FReeper who knows his way around the ATF forms needed to purchase a gun can answer this. Doesn't that form 4473 ask "Have you ever been declared mentally incompetent or been involuntarily committed to an institution?"

Both guns were bought legally, one in Feb and one in March. Yes, I’ve seen the gun store owner interviewed...he followed procedures to the letter.
Cho was evaluated at that mental health facility in Dec, ‘05 so I asked the same question earlier: why didn’t it show up on his background check to buy the gun. (Guess: the university didn’t want to “invade his privacy”!)
If they don’t tell the truth on such an important issue, they should be barred from calling themselves a “news” organization.
