These kids still irk me.
I’m glad they are off, what happened to them was beyond repugnant. I hoped they learned not to hire strippers in the future. Lie down with dogs . . .
The boys don’t irk me, but I’ve been concerned that we’ve all gotten so caught up with the injustice done against them that they’ve become heroes, sort of. They are not that. They made a very poor decision to hire those strippers and said awful things. I DO want them to get on with their lives, but for their own sakes, I hope that they see that poor action on their own part laid the path for what happened. I’m not saying that was their fault; we know differently. But they weren’t behaving as they should have either. I’m very glad that they’ve been declared innocent.
Two of the accused actually LEFT when/before the strippers arrived and weren’t even THERE when the strippers were!
you're a mom. I'm a dad. If this is the worst these guys did, then what's to worry?
Men and women behave differently. There is a stage that men go through; let's call it their 'right of passage' for want of a better term. It's part of growing up, and part of pushing the envelope. Not all men do it, but it's there.
Yes, I pushed the envelope, although not in this exact way. And, yes, my mom (my dad was quite ill at the time) knew about it, but didn't put the hammer down and didn't preach. I turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself.
Lesson? Not everyone may behave the way you expect (or want). That doesn't make them shameful or criminal. Perhaps we should wish for more non-invasive nuisance instead of politically correct cultural prohibition. It just might get the testosterone levels back in balance so the youths can go on to lead even more productive adult lives. Something to think about?
Your post was too heavily loaded with moral and personal judgment. They committed no illegal act and the judgment of their actions is not up to any one but God. You may not approve, but it shouldnt be our place to disapprove of someone elses behavior.
Dont know, but the tenor of your last two arguments seemed in appropriate.
Frankly, your comments are repugnant to me.
Lieing with dogs? Hiring strippers, while repugnant to prissy busybodies like yourself, is perfectly legal. As for the rest of the "dog" sentiment, in recent years 100% of the Duke Lacrosse graduate from college and have higher gpa's than virtually any other athletic team at Duke.
Perhaps there are other things more irksome? Like maybe lying strippers, malevolent prosecutors, feckless University administrators, and venal professors ??
Jeez, get a life!
Im glad they are off, what happened to them was beyond repugnant. I hoped they learned not to hire strippers in the future. Lie down with dogs . . .
All very well - but you are judging them by their reaction to temptations to which you yourself are not subject. For that matter, can you prove that you didn't assault someone last night? These guys have an official judgement that, at that particular time, they were "innocent." Can you make that claim?
Of course they shouldn't have hired strippers. I could have, and would have, told you that. But the issue is the contrast between the way their accusers have been treated, and how the Rutgers team's insulter has been treated. You can cast aspersions on the Duke 3 without fear. You try agreeing with Imus, and see what it gets you! And the Duke 88 was dead serious, whereas Imus was trying for laughs.
Ignorant posts irk me.
You have some evidence that these three boys were the ones who hired the strippers? You know for a fact that they stayed and watched the strippers?
Maybe you are really irked by rich college boys.
Are you kidding? Hiring/obtaining “adult entertainment” by young men at colleges, in the military and any group situation where there is a collection of unattached young males has been going on for a lot longer than you or I our even our grandparents have been around. During the Civil War the troops stationed in the Arlington/Alexandria/DC area referred to it as “going down the line”. It’s part of human nature and it isn’t going to change and you will be “irked” by a large part of the male population past and present if you don’t get over it.
I am so sick of people complaining about the strippers. It was a large, college party, for pete's sake. Not every person there had an interest in the stripper. They were there for the beer and to hang out with their friends. Two of the wrongly accused men left shortly after the stripper arrived - there's even a picture of Seligman looking grossed out by her.
There is no evidence these were lecherous men who disrespect women in general. Seligman left the party and called his girlfriend. Finnerty left the party and called his sister. I'll bet both of them mentioned the skanky stripper to the women with whom they were speaking and I'll bet it was done in the contest of, "Yuck, I just wanted to get out of there."
I can’t come close to agreeing with you. If they had been kicked off the team, suspended from school, had graduation delayed, or even had a job offer pulled due to their admitted actions — most or all of which are overreactions, then I’d agree. These guys were falsely charged with a serious felony!
You can’t reasonably or even remotely anticipate that from over-party, fratboy behavior.
