A World Bank report released Sunday shows that Mexico sends more migrants abroad than any other country on earth exceeding even the flows from nations that are much bigger, much poorer or convulsed by war and famine.
Two million Mexicans left their homeland between 2000 and 2005, according to the study, most of them to seek employment in the United States. China, whose population is more than 12 times larger than that of Mexico, saw 1.95 million of its citizens leave the country. More than 1.8 million Pakistanis left their homeland. Neighboring India produced 1.4 million migrants.
Economic migrants dwarfed the flows of refugees. For example, just over a half-million residents of Sudan fled that war-torn nation between 2000 and 2005, according to data from the World Bank's report, World Development Indicators 2007.
The northward flow of Mexicans to the United States is one of the largest exoduses in modern history. The equivalent of 10% of Mexico's population of 107 million people now resides north of the border, according to estimates.

They don’t think they are migrating - only moving back to the old neighborhood.
If China was on our southern border, there would be a percentage of illegal Chinese here equal to or higher than the precentage of Mexicans who have immigrated here, legally and illegall. The only thing that is preventing our being overrun by Chinese illegal immigrants is the Pacific Ocean, and our overlords are looking for ways to change that. Check out the development of the port at Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico.
When Mexcio owned what is now the Southwest U.S., Texas and California, there were fewer than 75,000 Mexicans (some put the number as low as 50,000) in the entire area.

King Five years into the war on terror, most Americans desperately hoped 2006 would be "the year" for solutions to the long national nightmare of intentionally unsecured borders and the resulting illegal immigration crisis. For many, the dream was that at a minimum, we would begin to see border security and immigration law enforcement similar to what Mexicans still living in Mexico enjoy. It didn't happen. According to a report released in late 2006 by the House Committee of Homeland Security, up to 10 million people entered the United States illegally and un-inspected last year [2005]. Of course it’s the largest - there’s no penalty, no pushback ...
“exceeding even the flows from nations that are much bigger, much poorer or convulsed by war and famine”
Despite lower taxes, conservative SCOTUS appointees and the WOT - GWB’s stance on this invasion by illegals because they are poor and looking for a better life will forever stain his place in history.
It’s a betrayal of the American people.
They no more have any tie to the US southwest than I do to Africa or the Indian Subcontinent.
Try telling it to them....
Virtually all of that number was in the lower Rio Grande valley. In California, the number never exceeded 7000 men, women and children of Spaniard or Mestizo descent.
The claim of "ownership" of the Southwest by Mexico was a farce at the time. Currently, they have a much stronger claim, which they will be undoubtedly asserting much more strenuously.
Yes, according to the “logic” they are using, the Atzlan people should turn over this territory to the Native Americans. I am reminded of the oid joke where the Mexicans complain that the gringos stole the part of their country with all the good roads and schools.
It's the socialism, stupid. The disparity in wealth between the two countries has always been there. In 1950's and early 60's there were lots of migrant workers, and it was never a problem. The problems started occurring after we granted noncitizens access to our social services. It was like erecting a giant electro-magnet to pick up all the debris within hundreds of miles of our southern border.
Erecting a wall will not solve the problem, it is merely a fruitless attempt to lock in our socialism. No socialist system can survive with open borders. So I say keep the borders open and let the socialism implode of its own weight, and then maybe we can reverse the tide. Otherwise it will just be bandaid after bandaid, where a tourniquet is needed, for years and years to come.
Your homepage comment is the solution.....to pretty much all of the problems.
Yes, and they are sending their criminial element mostly, which is the greatest burden on their society. Much cheaper than cleaning up their own corruption.
That’s because the comanches were tough customers to deal with. The people in New Mexico and Texas lived in fear of them for many years and even the soldiers of Mexico hated to make the trip up into New Mexico territory.
Shocking!
The truth matters, their inability or unwillingness to acknowledge it notwithstanding.
CALIFORNIA IS ILLEGAL ALIEN HEAVEN, AND THE TAXPAYERS KNOW IT!!
If Bush won't send them back to Mexico (and we know he won't), I think they should all go live at the Crawford "Ranch" in Texas and join their "cowboy" friend.
My question is: When will it stop, and when will Mexico be sufficient enough to deal with it’s own economy?
Ping!
