BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The suspected gunman in the Virginia Tech shooting rampage, Cho Seung-Hui, was a troubled 23-year-old senior from South Korea who investigators believe left an invective-filled note in his dorm room, sources say.
The note included a rambling list of grievances and ended with the words "Ismail Ax" in red ink on the inside of one of his arms.

I went randomly cruising around the links from the blog highlighted in post #220, and found the pic, plus some others. One that appeared to be a party shot from a beach in Morocco (Solazur Beach), Another with a guy standing in front of a Lamborghini with Arabic license plates on the bumper.
I have heard stories of rich Arab kids recruiting non-Arabs on college campuses via party-culture activities. Could we be looking at the fruition of such a recruitment?
One thing I didn't mention is this "Ismial Ax" business.
Looking at that blog I get the sense that "Ax", for whatever reason, is the nickname for the group of guys he runs with (the guy in the blog). It's referred to in several places as a surname would be.
However, there is also a place in Azerbaijan called "Ismayilli Rayon" or "Ismail Region". Within this region is a town called "IsmailAx".
Yeah, took me a while to think of that one ;-)
Bingo. Somewhat what I was alluding to in the post below yours.
Still, people pick gamer tags for a reason.
You said — “The physics thing was a mistake. Someone googled Ismail and got a citation for an article in a math journal by someone named Ismail.”
Well, I only read what the poster said and that was all. They said that they looked up that phrase and said it was part of a formula. So, I couldn’t tell you much more than that.
But, in any case, whether it be physics or whether it be some cryptic connection with “Ishmael” of Islam — one idea is as good as the other at this point in time. Physics works as well as Islam — with the information that we have right now.
For me, it doesn’t look like physics or Islam. It looks like a real nut-case going crazy over his girlfriend who just dumped him. He’s a whacko, that’s the operative word for me.

Lots of young men of many backgrounds are lonely and somewhat “disturbed” at times. But to suggest that this could possibly lead to this level of destruction is an insult to Korean people everywhere.
This was absolutely a part of a formula, but it was in the title of an article for the Journal of Mathematical Applications and the author’s last name was Ismail.
I really don’t think this idea has any relevance.
He couldn't write worth diddly.
"taking off her shoes, she hit's him hard."
In islam, isn't that the way they show extreme hatred and insult? Hitting someone with a shoe?
"You fat piece of pork."
Yeah, I call everybody a fat piece of pork over a fat pig. Pork is unclean to muslims.
(any reading, yeah I know, pork is unclean for Jews too but we're not talking about Judaism(sp?) here)
You posted that link of yours, to which I derived the following main page —

Now, what is the connection to yesterday’s shootings and this listing of historical documents?
The one you referred to is some translation from a French document. Is there something you’re trying to connect with this shooter — or are you just googling for words and it doesn’t matter where the words come from.
I’ve got a dictionary you can go through if you want. You might find some interesting words in there — maybe some scary ones, too....

You said — “I really dont think this idea has any relevance.”
And what I was saying is that it has as much relevance (because of the complete lack of information) to physics as it does to Islam. At this point in time, “physics” carries as much weight as Islam.
But, for me what carries the *most weight* — is that this guy is a complete nutball and tried to burn up his room twice, plus the police think he called in the bomb threats (from last week) and his girlfriend dumped him. Now, *that* all makes a lot of sense — for a “nutball”.

GIVE ME A BREAK...I said no such thing. Why must everyone make a mountain out of a molehill. I was taking the information that’s out there and trying to understand it by drawing on my personal experience. That’s all.
At my alma mater (another engineering school), some Asian student offed himself by crushing his head in a concrete compression machine in the civil engineering lab.
Grotesque, sure . . . but it's not like he took 32 other people with him.
UP (United Press) became UPI (United Press International). UPI teetered on the brink of bankruptcy, hanging on by the thread of their one superstar, Helen Thomas (please God, no one take that as a cue to post a picture).
UPI was bought out by the Moonies. It's limping along, but it is not an organization that can stand toe-to-toe with the AP, as it once was.
Another case of a monopoly. Sad.
There's no monopoly; the competition has just crossed borders. AP's competitors are Reuters, Fox/Sky/News Corp., the BBC, CNN/Time, Deutsche Presse Agentur (DPA) and Agance Presse Fraincais (AFP).
The Intarwebs have chnged the equation, giving millions of people direct access to IRNA (Iranian state-owned), Xinhua (Chinese state-owned), and so on. The Internet revolution has brought us more wheat by a factor of a thousand, but more chaff by a factor of a million.
The point I was trying to make was: all the instant reports which were, according to you, unsubstantiated, should not have been made UNTIL they had their finger on some real evidence.
I agree in principle. But when the shit hits the fan, when people are freaking out, I am willing to accept reporting the rumors, as long as they are clearly labeled as such. TV news anchors can't just sit there and blink at the camera. They gotta say something, most often written by someone else.
It’s very interesting stuff. The level of training this puke had seems more than your garden-variety nutball, though it certainly could be just that. The tingle up the spine says no, but how reliable is that.
I think my angle could be run to ground, and should be. IF the angle is wrong, it should be self-evident.
Looks like something Quentin Tarantino would win an Academy Award for.
Therefore according to your logic, its the carrots.

Why don’t you study the effects of carrots on the human mind.
I have studied the effects of anti-depressants.
If you click on and read these links it doesn’t say anything about carrots.

I’m looking for a connection there, myself. I think more attention needs to be given to that “Ismail Ax”. Anyone checking the terrorist websites to see what they are saying? I think I’ll mosey on over to MEMRI...

Oooh..., ouch! I guess they don’t.

I missed the provenance of these pics. How do we know they are the shooter?
Take a look at #397 and predecessors. It’s looking a lot less conspiratorial. Seems he just had some friends that he referred to as the “Ax” group, and “Ismail” was his nickname. Not unusual for college students to appreciate their clique, name it, identify its tone & attitude, and have lame in-joke nicknames.
Apply Occam’s Razor. Far more likely just a jilted lover/wannabee improperly coming off his meds than some TROP conspiracy.
