The student killed two people in a dorm room, returned to his dorm room where he re-armed and left a “disturbing note” before entering a classroom building on the other side of campus to continue his rampage, sources said.

..........................................................

Some students question why administrators did not cancel classes after the first shooting, and why it took more than two hours to inform the university community via e-mail about the first incident.

I hate this type of Monday Morning Quarterbacking. If Universities closed shop any time a murder occurs in close proximity, then many city schools would be shut down more time than they are open for business.

How many times does someone shoot another person and then flees the scene to escape capture? Now compare that to the number of times a person shoots another, then waits 2 hours, then shoots another 30 people. There are MANY other things to be upset with the pres of the university(no guns allowed), than this.

Someone has to stand responsible for this crime and lack of prevention after the first one was committed.I do not have esp but there was a crime committed on campus two hours before he butchered the others in the other classrooms. The campus should have been locked down period at the first crime. If the dean would have taken a chance to error on the side of caution and lock down the campus maybe it would have not been as bad. Better to be sorry for a mistake in judgment of safety then to error in the judgment made. You never ignore action which involves a gun. Someone has to step up to the plate.

How about we start with the design of the road system and go from there.

Some students question...

At what point do you think the "Red Alert" panic button should have been pushed?
(p.s. you've got a good thread going here)

I am not an expert on hand guns but he had to reload these guns. If armed security would have been there could someone have gotten a shot across and taken him down or at least disarm him during rearming. Did they let this man in the hall all the time to just shoot? Where were the snipers on the roofs opposite the hall ? I think this law enforcement in all our country needs more training. This should have been looked into after 911. I know the president had money allocated for enforcement after 911. Where was the training? WE cannot afford to panic again and make bad decisions . We have got to air on the side of caution no matter how inconvenient it may turn out to be.

The author of this is an illogical idiot. He has NO clue. Too bad. I read the first couple lines and understood he was the ‘box of rocks’ type.

So - do you blame NYPD and FDNY for all the deaths in the second tower?

Some students question why administrators did not cancel classes after the first shooting, and why it took more than two hours to inform the university community via e-mail about the first incident.

Why race to give out facts before a proper investigation is even underway? If you've ever watched the news during a breaking event, you know that the real facts don't come out for several hours. Why panic 30,000 students when it might not necessary? Why are you in such a rush to make a potentially stable situation into a madhouse? Do you really think that it would be any safer, and that there would be fewer problems if the police immediately and publicly jump to conclusions in the next ten American campus shootings?

An immediate lock down after 1st shooting more than likely would have resulted in the shooter being prevented from moving to the 2nd shooting location, two hours later on the other side of campus.

Someone has to stand responsible for..lack of prevention

Tonight, at least three people will be murdered in San Antonio. We don't know who, or where, or why. We do know it will happen.

Is it too early to criticise our police for these murders? For those of next week? What are you doing about them?

Great!! How would you have secured VT?

Approving the campus CCW measure that failed this January might have been a nice start. Armed students have cut short numerous campus rampages in the past (Appalachian State, Texas, etc)

You'll never prevent 100% of these incidents or fatalities (nor would you ever want to live in any society that could), but allowing CCW would help reduce the body-counts, and has done so in the past.

The idea that authorities didn’t have time or resources to get the word out is so lame it’s outrageous. They were derelict in their duty.

One moment looking ahead is better then looking back . It is better in enforcement to look at the what ifs then the what was. If it saves one life to be cautious then I would air on looking ahead rather then looking back. Where were the security camera on campus? People pay a lot of money to go to these schools and they expect enforcement to be aware of what might happen also. If it saves one life to error on caution then let America make mistakes that way. I still believe in better to be safe then sorry. All I know is there are a lot of people hurting today. I hope we have learned where we went wrong.
