I would never “diss” victims.
It’s a thought I had, and have had many times - our society seems to push the “don’t resist” mentality thinking it will help the situation. I think the fighting back mentality works better so it’s what I teach my children and it’s what I was taught. Again, I wasn’t there and I’m not dissing victims by any stretch of the imagination. This is one of the reasons I think gun control is ludicrous.
I agree with you, the students lying on the ground barricading the door to help brace it were honorable. I wasn’t dissing victims. I’m not dissing anyone, even those who don’t respond in fight mode. All I’m saying is we continue to teach, or so it seems, the “don’t fight back” philosophy and I have a problem with that philosophy. I don’t think it works. I’d rather fight back or have victims fight back. I sure as heck wouldn’t trust someone holding a gun on me to do the right thing.
Much grief here over what happened today - so very very sad - and prayers for you and all involved at VA Tech - students, faculty, staff, parents, siblings, and alumni. This tragedy is just totally heartwrenching. Listened to the press conference - thought they President and the Campus Police chief (is that who that was) handled it well considering the fact that I am sure they are in shock too. Sounded like they were trying to be deliverative on not putting out warnings til they heard about the 2nd shootings - but I know they will be condemned for not putting out a warning immediately after the first shootings.

Possible but not very likely. I am guessing that the dorm was a diversion and she was a random killing to get the cops on the other side of campus.

MSNBC now reporting that the weapons were 9mm and .22cal pistols with the serial numbers filed off.
Did anyone catch the part in the presser where someone asked if there were ANY surveillance cameras at the university and the response was NO?
That seemed crazy.
My husband and I talked about moving to Georgia when the city of Kennesaw passed the law for every household to be armed. We also think highly of Governor Perdue! :)
