Gunman on Campus; Stay inside your building, away from windows; Shooting incident at West Ambler Johnston Hall
(Excerpt) Read more at vtnews.vt.edu ...
I work at a University,,we have been locked down twice in the last few years. The last lockdown was when a person was reported on campus to be carrying a weapon and threatening people. We were locked down for a couple of hours. They have mass calling, emals to critical people who go lock the doors.
I wonder why there wasn’t a lockdown when they knew the perp was loose. Seemed indicated to me. But this is a small school, no history of this.
When I went to bed this morning it was reported One dead. Now 32. Oh dear Lord. Prayers for all involved.
My guess is the weapons stash was back at his apartment off campus. (which would account for the delay/hideout before his first class of the day)
If hes dead that could be a pic of an innocent asian man, or the shooter was shot and they let him bleed out right there. Not enough info, as usual from this PD.
“Good grief! A college campus is NOT a high school, with one large contained space. I went to a college with half the number of students, and there were buildings spread out over about a square mile area. How would you suggest locking down that large a space?”
Many years ago, a guy invented a way to talk over a copper wire. It was called the telephone! There have been several other inventions in which humans communicate over long distances as well. I have attended a few colleges and I do not recall a single building that did not have an office with a telephone in it. Possibly VT people should be retrained in the use of the telephone!
I noticed the same thing. Unbelievable.
The same way we defeated the British the first time.
Guerilla warfare and small arms.
But you know that already.
Agreed! Lessons can be learned but how does one ever plan for something like this? These people cannot be phsycic and all knowing .... and I’d guess they are in shock right now as well. The blame game seems idiotic ... these men and women in local law enforcement and University Administration did not aid in any of this ... they just never saw it coming ... any in reality, how could they? We do need to learn why this happened, esp on the remote possibility that this was foreign terrorism. We can also learn from it .... but the sole responsibility is with the person(s) that carried this out.
the point is - you have 9 locations where you tell people to turn back, they don’t enter the campus at all.
what mass shootings are conducted in parking lots? the gunmen would have to run to the parking lot to start shooting people, where 200 people in cars could run him over.
Gun bill gets shot down by panel
HB 1572, which would have allowed handguns on college campuses, died in subcommittee.
A bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus died with nary a shot being fired in the General Assembly.
House Bill 1572 didn’t get through the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety. It died Monday in the subcommittee stage, the first of several hurdles bills must overcome before becoming laws.
The bill was proposed by Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah County, on behalf of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. Gilbert was unavailable Monday and spokesman Gary Frink would not comment on the bill’s defeat other than to say the issue was dead for this General Assembly session.
Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. “I’m sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly’s actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.”
Or a Muslem under a Kufi....
A little gallows humor.
Pray for W and Va Tech
Totally agreed. She was a condescending piece of work.
That said, the ROP does come to mind every time I hear about something like this happening these days. Time will tell, however, if the shooter is a Muslim the press will not make much mention of that fact as they did with the Utah shooter.
CNN with the scoop?
Totally agreed. She was a condescending piece of work.
lesson number one here: Unarmed citizens are dead citizens.
But CNN and the BBC AND FNC will only put a mic before Sarah Brady and edit the NRA bit as “defensive reactionary”.
Maybe because they were in the hospital and the police were letting them be treated for their injuries first. As I mentioned before, eyewitnesses are sometimes wrong. Their reports would have to be mixed with all the other information to get the full picture.
Now expert on Fox is acting like this is fact.
