Thread 4
Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD
Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanityâs dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.
J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18
The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.
Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

Well, it IS for the children. You don't hate the children do you? /sarc
” Well, it IS for the children. “
Yeah — I guess, in the spirit of “No Child Left Behind”, we should do what we can to ensure that every Palestinian child is not only provided with his or her very own AK-47, but also the weapons training so they can use it as effectively as children in other terrorist areas......

Syrian newspaper says Saudi Arabia, Israel, and US seeking intelligence on whereabouts of Shiite leader

Published: 07.01.07, 12:37 / Israel News
An attempt on the life of Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah was foiled by the Shiite organization, a Syrian weekly magazine reported on Saturday. According to al-Madar, the intelligence services of Saudi Arabia, the United States and Israel sought to track secret Hizbullah bunkers in Lebanon as part of a plot to assassinate Nasrallah.
The magazine also pointed to Fatah strongman Mohammad Dahlan and former Saudi Ambassador to Washington Prince Bandar Bin-Sultan as accomplices to the plot.
He's baaaaack.
” US, Israel plotting to kill Nasrallah - report “
That would never happen — it wouldn’t be “proportionate”....
(Harkening back to the all-the-rage buzzword of almost a year ago)
I agree - there is nothing proportionate about a .50 cal from 3/4 mile away hitting him between the eyes.
And speaking of ‘proportionate’....

IDF soldiers kill Fatah commander in West Bank
By Avi Issacharoff, Haaretz Correspondent, and Haaretz Service
Palestinian sources said early Monday that Mohammed Abu al-Heija, a leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades in the Jenin refugee camp, and the deputy of Zakariya Zubeidi, one of the top commanders of the Fatah-linked armed group, was killed in a pre-dawn gun battle with Israel Defense Forces troops in the West Bank camp.
According to the report, the incident took place at about 2:00 A.M. in the camp, a longtime focus of Palestinian militancy.
A little good news to start the first cup with.
The Hamas military wing, under the leadership of Ahmed al-Ja'abari, is launching Qassam rockets from the Gaza Strip, contrary to the opinion of the political leadership of the organization.
After some weeks in which Hamas avoided launching Qassam rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip, members of Iz a Din al-Kassam have resumed the attacks: During the past two days, at least three rockets were fired at Israel.
We don't need no stinking leadership - in any other organization, this move would have been a career buster.
Hamas attempts to take over control of the Temple Mount as well as spread its ideology and recruit new members in Jerusalem has been foiled by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency,) senior security official announced Monday.
According to officials, Hamas has invested millions of shekels in recent years in Jerusalem charities, religious institutions, as well as in construction on the Temple Mount in an effort to recruit Israeli Arab residents of Jerusalem into its ranks, thus bolstering its presence in the capital.
The official said that Hamas recently built a bathroom on the Temple Mount and also enlarged a library and prayer halls in Solomon's Stables.
"Their goal is to gain full control over the Temple Mount," a high-ranking security officer said Monday, adding that Hamas also tried to infiltrate members into the Temple Mount as maintenance staff , in addition to its religious leaders who preach, give tours, and teach Koran classes there.
Stopped them again - for a little while.
Good morning, Workerbee....
Thanx for the updates — yesterday was pretty much total immersion in Glasgow and Britain and car bombs and what turned out not to be “Home Grown” (ie not ‘real’) terrorists.
Anyhoo, spent the day on another thread, and it’s gonna feel good to get back to adult conversation over here, today...
After I get some coffee in me, that is....
How are you this morning??
Home Grown (ie not real) terrorists."
That attitude worries me.
Which thread was that?
” That attitude worries me. “
It’s worried me since about 9/12, when the media fixated on “Al Qaeda” and “Bin Laden” and turned the discussion on World Terrorism into a B-movie plot.....

I saw that thread - I didn’t have the patience need to get through the noise, and when I did I forgot the thread - oldtimers I guess :)
” patience need to get through the noise “
Don’t know if it was ‘patience’, or ‘boredom’ (absolutely nothing of entertainment value on tv all day yesterday) but I plowed through all of the (aptly described) ‘noise’....
Hence, my earlier comment about ‘adult conversation’...
;~)
I'm at work now so I no longer have access to my source links - I now turn it over to the next usual likely suspect :)

With their investigation moving at breakneck speed, the police expanded their hunt on Sunday for the plotters of attempted car bomb attacks in London and Glasgow that the British government called the work of terrorists linked to Al Qaeda. Officers raided homes in three cities and arrested another suspect, bringing the total to five, including at least one identified as a medical doctor...
None of the five suspects are British citizens, a senior Western official said.
” In Hunt for Bomb Plotters, Britain Sees a Qaeda Link
NYT ^ “
Case in point — note that the headline refers to the culprits as “Bomb Plotters” — the NY Slimes would never have referred to the Brit bombers as “terrorists”, (even in the body of the story) unless they could say “Al Qaeda” in the same sentence.....
Getting the NYT to even admit that Al Qaeda and terror may be related is a feat in itself.
My point is that the Britt's are making the connection whether or not the MSM want to report it faithfully or not.
Disclaimer: My comments should not be misconstrued to mean that I support to NYT in any form or fashion nor trust anything they print or broadcast :)
Apparently, were determined to ignore “casus belli” provocations indefinitely, in the name of “Can’t we all just get along??”
U.S.: Iranian force carried out attack

BAGHDAD - Iran’s elite Quds force helped militants carry out a January attack in Karbala that killed five Americans, a U.S. general said Monday. U.S. military spokesman Brig. Gen. Kevin J. Bergner also accused Tehran of using the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah as a “proxy” to arm Shiite militants in Iraq.
The claims were an escalation in U.S. accusations that Iran is fueling Iraq’s violence, which Tehran has denied, and were the first time the U.S. military has said Hezbollah has a direct role.
