Thread 4
Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD
Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanityâs dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.
J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18
The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.
Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

I need to go wireless on the boat though - cables and wires tie me to the dock too permanently.
” cables and wires tie me to the dock too “
Yeah —forgot about that.... Us landlubbers ain’t in the habit of thinking in those terms, I guess.... ;~)
Finally a new post on the main board —
We waited 83 minutes for —
” Civilian deaths decreasing (In Iraq) ^ “
Yippee.....
DSL came back up Ike.
” DSL came back up Ike. “
Hmmmmm....
Coincidence??
” Coincidence?? “
That was ‘tongue in cheek’ — not even *I* am that paranoid.....
;~)
I dunno, ATT has quite a bit of the internet infrastructure, i.e. the pipes and hardware, too much in my opinion.
But its Down again.
I don't think paranoia has anything to do with it but I would imagine that quite a few folks depend on ATT for internet connections and fast dsl is a pretty good deal for those on a budget.
But I noticed us old farts on dial up have no trouble posting ;-)
” But I noticed us old farts on dial up have no trouble posting ;-) “
The only real problem I have with dialup is that I live in the fear that someone will post a bunch of pictures on a thread that I’m following.....
The Katrina live-thread was a nightmare, sometimes, with all of the maps and screen-captures.... ;~)
Good morning, gentlement. The madness continues...

US wants to train Fatah in West Bank
By HILARY LEILA KRIEGER
WASHINGTON
US State Department officials, looking to shift US Security Coordinator Lt.-Gen. Keith Dayton’s work with Palestinian forces to the West Bank, have begun holding discussions with Congressional staff on how to restructure an $86 million funding program previously allocated to bolster Dayton’s Gaza activities.
The earlier package was whittled down to $59m. before Congress signed off on it and would have gone largely to non-lethal equipment and training for the presidential guard to secure the Gaza border crossings and help Fatah leaders and institutions there. Now the US, caught off-guard by Hamas’s speedy defeat of Fatah forces in Gaza, is scrambling for new ways to strengthen Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah and isolate Hamas in Gaza.
“They have a great appetite to work with Abbas and [PA Prime Minister Salaam] Fayad,” said one Democratic Congressional staffer. “But I don’t think they’ve quite figured out what that cooperation looks like, where that money ought to go.”
“They don’t have good answers right now,” he said.

” US State Department officials, “
That’s all I needed to see..... ;~)
Good morning, Bahbah....
Slow - glacially slow - news morning......
Yes indeed it is. I've checked a few of the usual sources so far and there is very little to see so far.
” there is very little to see so far “
Fluff&Folly on now — and doing its bit to keep us in the dark in 100,000 words or more......
It may be slow
but it’s good to know
FReepers on this thread
are standing guard.
Thanks to all contributors.
Our pleasure - jump right in :)
Good morning, PGalt....
Pull up a chair and a cuppa —

Israel will resume as early as Sunday the transfer of tax funds to the Palestinian government for the first time in 17 months to bolster Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, officials said.
The remaining sum will be transferred to Abbas' government within six months, as agreed in meetings last week between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's aides and Abbas.
Senior Israeli and Palestinian officials said the tax money would be transferred to the emergency government that Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas established in the occupied West Bank after he ordered the dissolution of the cabinet that was led by Hamas Islamists.
The headline should read;
Israel To Purchase War With Hamas On the Installment Plan
Or something like that.
” Israel to pay first installment of tax revenues to PA by Monday “
At least this money arguably ‘belongs’ to the Palis —
Condi is giving them *our* money.....
One is (barely) morally defensible - the other one ain’t.....
