Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD
Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanityâs dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.
J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18
The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.
Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

Hey UVNV! He’ll go where his money can buy influence. Funny thing with the Internet, it’s the one thing I’m glad the government created initially. Only they could have created such a thing that they could not control...so far (lol). I remember when the first bit of legislation popped up about sales tax revenue from sales via the internet. It was funny watching the law makers run as fast as they could away from something they would typically be drawn to like a magnet (lolololol). The internet is quite the pickle for the government, and I like it that way :)
It’ll be quite some time before any success if found in true sensorship. It should be noted that there is currently an effort to fund research on “rebuilding” the current infrastructure of the internet. Someone posted an article here at FR about it. That will be something to keep an eye on if and when it actually gets anywhere.
Good morning to ya!
Rant appropriate :)
That’s not from a news story. I give up on reporters. Most of’em don’t know up from down or a shotgun from a rifle. That’s from official daily reports put out by the National Interagency Fire Center.
To be honest, though, when the fires are crazy, the reports don’t get filed in time or all that accurate...they are busy!
First, each fire files a 209, which are notoriously late when there’s a lot of action, and a lot of guestimates. Then the data is sent by region to NICC, which compiles it and makes their reports. Some regions only like to report new acres from what is called Initial Attack, others report on the growth of fires from established fires as well, and other areas act like they don’t want to admit that they have fire acres burned and seemingly put a lot of their acreage into the grand totals and not the daily burns.
I’ve been watching these reports since 1999, when I first discovered them.
It drives me crazy....
“Four Iraqi journalists were killed when gunmen opened fire on their car near the northern city of Kirkuk on Wednesday, police said.
They said one of the journalists was the well-known director of a local media organisation which publishes several newspapers. (Reuters)”
No tin foil needed here. I suspect that was an intentional assasination of all aboard. Some don’t want news from that area getting out IMHO.
I suspect you’re right.
Amazing weather. The center of the US is flooding...but there is fire in the south on both coasts and on the very top by Boundary Waters...and a storm system to keep the winds up off the Georgia/Florida coast...but not one expected to dump a lot of water there.
And the Florida Panhandle and the area around LA and San Bernadino continue under Fire Weather advisories...

Likud MK proposes elections for prime minister only
Published: 05.09.07, 16:50 / Israel News
Knesset Member Yisrael Katz (Likud) has submitted a new bill proposing elections for the role of prime minister only, enabling the Knesset to continue in its current form.
According to Katz, many coalition members support his bill. (Amnon Meranda)

(one reason for not wanting elections seems to be a feeling that there would be a big throw the bums out effect, and for sure Kadima and Labor would lose a lot of power. I will keep an eye out to see if anybody runs with this idea.)

Peres tells Olmert he doesnt see himself as prime minister candidate
Published: 05.09.07, 20:26 / Israel News
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with Vice Premier Shimon Peres to discuss the upcoming presidential elections.
Peres told Olmert that he did not see himself as a candidate for prime minister. Earlier, Peres met with MK Avigdor Itzchaky (Kadima), who promised to look into Peres’ change of being elected president. (Attila Somfalvi)

Them in Israel who think they can get Peres to be PM seem to forget he really, really wants to be President, instead. I suspect that job has far, far fewer headaches.
Wish someone would have told Olmerde the same thing some time ago.....I know he rode Sharon’s coattails but he’s become quite the expensive tail (end). Hiya.
This is interesting. Maybe Egypt is done with extremism I hope.

Afghans Protest Against “Devil” Ahmadinejad and Iran
Hundreds of Afghan protesters carried signs condemning “Devil” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his forces for dumping refugees back into Afghanistan.
Iran evicted 25,000 Afghan refugees in the span of a few days.

Hundreds of Afghanistan citizens marched the streets of Kabul and rallied in front of the Iranian Embassy Tuesday:
Hundreds of people rallied in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul Tuesday to protest against Iran’s expulsion of tens of thousands of Afghan refugees, witnesses said.
Some 500 people marched from western Kabul to the Iranian embassy carrying banners condemning Tehran’s action.
One of the banners described Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his forces as “devils.”
“Islam has no borders, we condemn Iran’s brutal act,” the banner said.
Iran launched a drive to expel the refugees April 21 and sent back some 25,000 within the space of a few days, prompting strong protests by the Afghan government.
Iran’s interior minister Mostafa Pour Mohammadi has said that the government planned to send back around 500,000 refugees in the first phase.
Afghan interior ministry spokesman Zemarai Bashary said that Tuesday’s protest was peaceful.
On Sunday Afghanistan called on Iran to stop the expulsions, saying that the destitute country could not afford to resettle the refugees.
Around 20,000 refugees were dropped across the border in Afghanistan’s Nimroz province, among them women who were picked up from the streets and who had left family members behind, Nimroz governor Ghulam Dastageer Azad has said.
“Among the forced returnees here, there are women who have left family members in Iran, there are people who have left their accounts unsettled in Iran,” said Azad.
