Before the anti-fredders (and Rudy supporters) start questioning Fred's health, I hope they flash back to Rudy's cancer a few years ago as well as McCain's.
What I find amazing is that Fred is a very high profile person, whether in DC or Hollywood. The fact this was never leaked before now is astounding.

The Clintons are behind this, just like when they erased JFK Jr. to prevent his running against her for the NY Senate seat.

I think we are past the time when a diagnose of a manageable disease would automatically put the kibosh on a political career, or any career. The rules for republicans are not the same as rules for democrats. A republican better be healthy. Also, Elizabeth Edwards is terminal.

“I have had no illness from it, or even any symptoms. My life expectancy should not be affected. I am in remission, and it is very treatable with drugs if treatment is needed in the futureand with no debilitating side effects,” Thompson said.

“I think Fred is being proactive with this. Better to reveal this now than have the media (or a potential competitor) reveal it for him.”
Right, it’s called “getting ahead” of the story and it’s always better to release information such as this in your own controlled way. Could be a bit of “house cleaning” before his announcement.

I hope he responds well to treatment. We need to keep his voice around for a long time. However this very likely takes his name off the table for the Presidential primary season. He's likely to have too many days, thanks to both the disease and its treatment, when he just won't have the energy to do all the things such a candidate needs to do to be effective. Plus the uncertainty it gives the electorate would hurt his chances. However, presuming he responds well, it could still leave him in the running for VP as there he wouldn't have to work hard until the convention.
Between this announcement and Newt jumping the shark yesterday by endorsing both global warming and Kerry's book the GOP electorate needs to face the fact that we're stuck with just the candidates we already have. Fred can't run and nobody would want Newt. I don't think there's anyone else significant out there poised to join the race. For better or Hillary put an end to your wishful thinking and work at narrowing the current list down to one in a way that produces both a good candidate and one sufficiently intact to beat the Rats. Otherwise in another four years we'll be needing a Pied Piper to clear out DC.

This could just as easily be from McCain’s folks, especially since there was a recent reference to another growth in McCain’s forehead (I think).

I don't know but I don't see why this is any worse than Rudy's bout with prostate cancer.
Per my research: Hodgkins lymphoma was one of the first cancers to be rendered curable by combination chemotherapy.
So, I don't see this as an automatic death sentence.

Seems like this announcement is part of "the plan" ..get any controversial news out now, since he has apparently gotten treatment for the last three years, and is apparently "in remission." Sounds like it .. I didn't know he's had it

No way. Fred is behind this. He’s beating everyone else to the punch. If this is indeed three years old, the fact that it has remained private says a lot. It is Fred’s choice to reveal this and no one else’s.

Arlen Specter had a much worse form and he seems to have fought it off. US Senator is not the same as Potus. Looks like Tim Johnson may make some level of recovery and he is still in the senate. I don't think Johnson will be running for Potus anytime soon.

Fred was treated successfully for this three years ago.
Let's not spin the politics of this, since we have no idea what the impact is on Fred's decision to enter the race. Let's hope he stays healthy, whether or not he enters the race.

clearly he knew he had this and has been seriously considering the presidential run despite it, it would appear he doesn’t consider it an impediment and is indeed doing the proactive thing by getting it out there. if this was a new diagnosis, it would be much more significant.

Having gotten over my initial panic and shock...
I completely agree with you.
Fred is getting the bad news out of the way before announcing:)
