Imus: Message From a Nappy-Haired Freeper
4/10/2001 | Stanley Jackson

Posted on 04/10/2007 4:27:25 PM PDT by Stajack

I’m writing to those I consider my ideological brethren, after reading a lot of the commentary here regarding Imus’ latest rhetorical “riff”. I believe that most Freepers are, like me, disgusted at the ill- conceived stab at “humor” by him and his sidekick Bernard McGuirk. But in the aftermath of his actual words, Imus sought to make amends with Sharpton and Jackson. This was a brilliant move that accomplished two things. First, it caused a lot of us to take our scrutiny off of Imus, and to focus on the utter hypocrisy of Sharpton and Jackson. Second (and more importantly for me), it PROVIDED COVER FOR THE ENABLERS OF IMUS. Who am I talking about? Let’s see, Tim Russert, David Gregory, Chris Matthews, Howard Fineman, Jonathan Alter…the list goes on and on. These folks are enablers because for 30 years their ilk has enhanced the reputation and prestige of Imus, all the while winking and nodding at his verbal missiles. What have they gotten in return? A PLATFORM TO LAUNCH IDEOLOGICAL WARFARE AGAINST US AND THOSE WE SUPPORT. Ironically, in the midst of the withering scrutiny of Imus, Sharpton and Jackson, most of the enablers are morphing into “objective” journalists attempting to help Imus "find redemption' so we can all "move forward together”. As I’m writing this I see Brian William sweet talking the Rutgers coach , Vivien Stringer. To Williams and Co., I say STICK IT. Freepers, these are the same folks who would tar and feather Bennett, Limbaugh, Hannity or ANY CONSERVATIVE in similar circumstances. But because of our fixation on Sharpton and Jackson, the enablers are getting a pass. This is AT LEAST as much political as it is racial. Eye on the target, PLEASE.

As Fred Barnes said on Fox: “They are ministers; aren’t they supposed to forgive?”

An adult made a statement and apologized for his inflammatory remarks....

That's not the post in question. It's your earlier post.

He was ALSO saying that it is and has been the stock in trade among black comedians and that if such talk is forbidden/allowed to one set it should also be forbidden/allowed for the other.

You wrote this like you assumed I would disagree with it. Sorry to disappoint.

Please forgive me. Your standards were apparently not given to all of the involved parties. He wants to pick at me, let him pick.

This is a well orchestrated manuever by Imus’ attorneys and the suits at MSNBC and CBS. My guess is Imus has pretty much had a come to Jesus meeting and he has little choice. He’s only sorry he’s had to endure this part of his apology parade.

Redneck, whitey and cracker don't send me off of the deep end either.

Me neither, but certain words to a certain race of people will get you killed in this country.

What I took away from this comic's opinion overall was that if you ban one man from saying 'nappy headed ho', you must ban all men from saying those words.

That's the part I entirely agree with. It all goes back to what Michael Richards said at the Laugh In comedy club. He got excoriated for saying the N-word over and over, yet in the rap music community, the N-word repeated over and over again, makes rap artists millions.

I say Stick It with you! I don't like Imus, but he is one of their own and they will cover for him!

Perhaps a cringe point was reached.

These days it's called political correctness.

I agree. And getting the Rutgers girls to engage in some "dialogue" is instrumental to pulling it off. That's probably why Brian Williams was schmoozing Vivien Stringer today. I consider him to be an Imus emissary, doing some "prep" work. To me, it's diagusting.

Well said!

. . .agree. . .but Sharpton and Jackson required no invitation. . .they interjected themselves - as they always do. And while this may serve Imus; by comparison; am not sure he was smart enough to foresee his efforts as double-edged.

Meantime, am wondering if Jackson was required to do 'sensitivity training' post his 'Hymietown' comment. . .and if Sharpton ever feels a pang of guilt for the damage done to the innocent because of his racism. (We know the answer, of course. . .)

More; am waiting for just 'someone'. . .anyone; even Imus; to challenge this duo on their abject but self-serving hypocrisy.

I don't remember calling Imus' statement a crime. In fact my focus isn't on what Imus said, it's on the politics AROUND it.

Excellent analysis. These MSM and NBC “enablers” would be busy lynching any conservative who said the same thing, trying to make sure the guy could never work in media again. But since it is one of “theirs” who has wandered a bit off the PC-reservation, they are desperate to participate in the rehabiliation of Imus. They certainly didn’t approach matters this way for Rush Limbaugh, George Allen, Trent Lott, et al..... in those cases the only thing the bozos of the MSM cared about was trying to end the career of the eviiiilllll perp......

I believe you are right. IF this were a Conservative????

After thinking about what you said, I wouldn’t be surprised that the left doesn’t have game plans for this kind of stuff.

OK, if a Conservative says something stupid, we do this. And if a liberal says something stupid, we do that.

Well, we know Jackson and Sharpton on-board for publicity. . .typical self-serving Libs parasites who will stick to anything if there is a public eye focused on host.

. . .but by Imus surely walked into this one. . .straight-on and by himself.

If a tree falls in the woods and no reporter was there to report a possible resounding roar that may have occurred and potential cataclysmic damage that ensued, will he still lie about something on the six o’clock news?
