Our latest electoral college map shows that regardless of candidate, if the election were held today, a Democrat would be elected to the nations highest office. Red states that would flip include: Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Ohio and West Virginia. No Blue state would become red. The count would be: Democrats, 306, Republicans 232.
which ones?
why is Thompson going to do better then Bush did in 2004? where is Thompson’s appeal to independents going to come from, to hispanics, to young voters? what happens when people see that he has a wife that looks like his daughter lined up to be first lady? that he doesn’t have a particularly great career in government, not even having served two full senate terms. and he has no executive experience.
the idea here on FR, that Thompson is going to pull off some Reagan style landslide, is pure fantasy. if Thompson is the nominee - it will play out exactly as I said above. His electoral strategy will be identical to Bush’s. He will have to hold Ohio, hold one off those western states, and hold Iowa, to get to 270. Don’t get me wrong - he could do that - I’m not saying he can’t win the general - but its not going to be a landslide.
I hear you but in this case, I think the grass roots can overcome that. If so, it will be the first time the grass roots Republicans will have chosen the nominee since 1980.
1. Find some GOP/Conservative principles that are very popular, and that the GOP can use them as tent poles to rally behind and force the dem’s hand on them. 4 or 5 of these would be good.
2. Get the best spokespeople in the ranks and get them all on the same page, and get them on message.
3. Develop new ways to get the message to the people since the media is at best undependable and at worst, hostile.
4. Put the dems on defensive on several fronts - make them look bad and press them so that they have to go on record on issues that our research shows they are in a minority position.
5. End some careers. Too many people on the other side take their shots at our guys with impunity. Time to make some examples out of some people - ruin careers, bankrupt them in court, send somebody to go over and seduce their spouses, ruin their marriages, own their homes, makes their children cry, etc.
That’s a start.
I am hoping the continued antics of this idiotic speaker and her circus clowns in Congress will wake up America. Do you want these people in control?
I just don’t believe that the GOP’s only shot is to run a leftist, cross-dressing, thrice-divorced, statist, pro-abortion, pro-gay-marriage LIBERAL.
Rudy would be far superior to Hillary and Obama. I understand that there are conservatives who would prefer Rudy lose and one of those two get in because they believe it is more important to maintain commanding influence in the Republican Party than win in 2008.
Then why is Fred Thompson moving up in the polls without spending a dime?
I don’t know anything about Kentucky demographics.
alot of the NYers who moved to Florida (some are my relatives), came from the post WWII generation that settled in suburban places like long island. they are republicans in other words, not all the NYers in Florida are from NYC.
No surprise.
Red politicians are turning blue.
You failed to mention that his lips are too big.
that’s exactly right, and you should post that again and again on the immigration threads, its a very good analysis. the mistake Bush made on immigration, was the “everything at once” approach - when the “first let’s do this, then we’ll do this” approach was what was needed.
so he polarized everyone with it.
If we assume that those who wanted to teach the GOP a lesson will add to their ranks and want to do so again in '08 I can only surmise that Hillary will be the POTUS and I will try to find a relative in Sicily that I can live with!!
There is no comparison between 1980 and 2008 or between Reagan and Thompson. Reagan was an established national political figure who nearly defeated a sitting President for the nomination in 1976. Reagan had an organization established and supporters ready early.
Thompson’s only real chance is the same as Newt’s — that the other candidates will crash and burn and there will be room for a relative newbie. That scenario has happened recently — on the ‘rat side. Republican nominations just don’t play out that way. Candidates have to pay their dues first — as Reagan, Nixon and GHWB did. (GWB had his Dad’s name and connections as well as lots of friends and supporters elsewhere).
Not at all, I’ve said numerous times that he will get my vote if he gets the nomination.
He IS better than Hillary or The Magic Negro. However, he won’t reduce my taxes, promote small government, appoint suitable justices (I don’t care what he says, his record suggests otherwise,) won’t even attempt border control, and is in most ways, simply a Democrat less bad than Hillary.
In a perfect world.
Rudy could win PA and NJ, for example. he’s very popular in the northeast, and both states have alot of NYC metro area former residents in them.
