Our latest electoral college map shows that regardless of candidate, if the election were held today, a Democrat would be elected to the nation’s highest office. Red states that would flip include: Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Ohio and West Virginia. No Blue state would become red. The count would be: Democrats, 306, Republicans 232.
In fact, many conservatives have been kicked to the curb by the electorate, sometimes gleefully. The chronic inability of some conservatives to believe that the general electorate can look at them and come to (rational or irrational) conclusion that they suck is a serious problem.
Something better happen and happen fast or the Pubbies will be the minority party for a long, long time.
As soon as Bush signs amnesty for the illegals, he will enable 20 million Democrat voters. Shortly thereafter the Republican party will cease to exist as a political force.
HOLD Iowa?
The old GOP playbook is becoming obsolete. Time to expand the tent and expand the appeal, or we will only win the White House after the opposition occasionally royally screws up.

I hope you’re right but the Arkansas GOP is a weak, useless organization. We lost every race in 06.

Gee, I don’t blame the party, I blame the media and the stupidity of the American people who don’t know they are being manipulated by the News they watch. The media has been trying to destroy Bush since day one, and they have about succeeded.
That’s why we are losing these western states, because of the shift in Hispanic voters to the Dems.
No one to blame but Bush, his lack of a winning plan on illegal immigration led to defeat 2006.
Two years ago even Senator Frist was saying secure the borders first. If, at that time Bush had worked with fellow Republicans and truly secured the border, he could have come back to a Republican congress a year or two later and asked for a guest worker plan, they would have gladly passed that.
Then Bush could have sailed into the past elections with his fellow Republicans happy with a secure border and Hispanics happy with a guest worker plan, a win-win strategy.
But no, Bush went with the lose-lose strategy, where he alienated his base Republican voters and angered the Hispanics who then voted 70% for Democrats.
Fellow Republicans paid the price for his short sightedness.
I meant to add that to my last comment. A lot can and will change in the next year and a half. Mainly, Democrat governance (or lack thereof).
Actually, though it pains me to reconcile myself to the notion, a Democrat Congress makes it more likely that Republicans keep the White House. Americans are a peculiar lot in that they like to vote split ticket, at least in modern times.
This sounds like the kind of nightmares that the RNC dicuss right before they ask for money and suggest that if you don’t send them every penny you have, it will all be your fault.
Shortly thereafter America will cease to exist as a first world nation. It will be our death knell. I don’t think that is lost on our elites either.
Thompson has no organization at all and there are exactly ten months to Super Tuesday. He hasn’t even formed an exploratory committee. At this point his “candidacy” is more of a new media event than a real campaign.
If he does jump in, he is WAY behind the other campaigns on organization and fund raising. Those two factors will be even more decisive than in prior years due to the front-loaded primary system.
What candidate has a chance to pick up some blue States, if not Thompson?
