She said the meeting with the Syrian leader “enabled us to communicate a message from Prime Minister Olmert that Israel was ready to engage in peace talks as well.”

According to officials in the Prime Minister’s Office, however, this was not what transpired during her meeting with Olmert.

The officials said Olmert had told Pelosi that he thought her trip to Damascus was a mistake, and that when she asked - nevertheless - whether he had a message for Assad, Olmert said Syria should first stop supporting terrorism and “act like a normal country,” and only then would Israel be willing to hold discussions.

"This is only the beginning of our constructive dialogue with Syria and we hope to build on this visit," he told reporters.

The Philadelphia Inquirer may typically be a DNC rag, but the article is an op ed by Claudia Rossett, IIRC the one who did such yeoman's work on uncovering the "Oil for Food" scam. Pelosi was nuts to visit with Assad.

Another tidbit: “As any diplomat with knowledge of the region could have told Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Assad is a corrupt thug.”

And they finish off by slamming her for “ramming” the deadline for pulling out troops through the House.

I vehemently disagree. Take a look at the protesters’ signs, read some DU threads, read the WashPost’s article that this thread is about and it’s comments section. Oh and go to our nations campuses. The reading is almost unreal.

Your vehemence is noted, even if misplaced. Protesters' signs don't represent the views of the many millions on the Left nor do DU threads [some outrageous things are said on FR threads as well] or the WP, which I subscribe to. I have not noticed that the nation's campuses are hotbeds of anti-semitism. There is no doubt that the Palestinians have support there but I am not aware of rampant anti-semitism, just anti-Israel.

Your breakdown of the Jewish members in Congress primarily reflects the demographic makeup of the gerrymandered districts. I agree that there is a incongruence between the Party of choice for Jews vs the anti Jewish sentiment on the left.

What do you mean specifically by the demographic makeup of gerrymandered districts? They have large Jewish populations? The radical Left has been minimized in these districts? How does that explain the Senate and folks like Sanders, Boxer, Schumer, Feingold, Levin, etc. Some of the most liberal, Leftist members of Congress are Jews who are all Democrats. If you are trying to make a distinction between the Left and Jews, it is a false one. In many cases, they are one and the same. Many Jews are part of the radical Left.

Pelosi is beyond being an idiot.

She has aligned herself with an enemy of the United States, a state sponsor of terrorism, against the explicit recommendations of the US Commander in Chief, during a declared war against terrorism.

Pelosi is a traitor, anyone who supports Pelosi is a traitor, and they have taken sides with those who openly express a wish to kill Americans.

She might as well have shaken Osama Bin Laden’s hand, and this view is not limited to conservative voters. The Washington Post is not only unable to find justification for pelosi’s actions, they are forced by common sense and reason, to condemn them.

Pelosi’s behavior is unacceptable, and this is only the beginning of the social and political price she will pay for her visit to an enemy capitol in time of war.

It’s one thing to covertly act against the interests of the country that elected you, but to openly side with a terrorist, to openly lie about Israel’s intentions, and to openly embrace a monster who, at this moment is killing US troops in Iraq, enters an entirely new dimension of treachery.

I do not believe Congressional membership will be enough to shield a traitor from her just desserts.

I would add this:

Exit polling has shown rather convincingly that the core of the DNC’s voter base consists of:

1. Minorities, especially urban blacks.
2. Single women, especially single mothers.
3. The hard-core union voter.

The core group of single women, esp. single mothers, sees government as their sugar daddy and replacement for the men they don’t have in their lives. The entire worldview of the DNC, on all matters including national security, has taken on a decidedly feminine and feminist tinge, and that is as a result of their core constituent groups.

The GOP’s core constituent group is white males, both single and especially married. Since it is rather obvious to white males that if the turds hit the turbine, it will fall to white males to clean up the mess (because of willpower, demographic numbers and history), well, they tend to demand a bit more spine in the GOP’s national defense policies.
