Ahmadinejad Vows News Soon on Atomic Work
-Full Story-

Iran's president promised on Sunday Iranians would soon hear more news about the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, which the West believes is a covert effort to build atomic bombs despite Tehran's denials.

"The Iranian nation will soon hear fresh news about our country's nuclear transition," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying.

He did not give details about any announcements or when the news would be released but Ahmadinejad is due to hold a news conference on Tuesday.

How horribly barbaric...and strange. The source article is missing so much of the old “who, what, where, when, why”, especially the “why”.

Two area men charged as Hussein spies (Michigan)
April 17, 2007

Two Detroit-area men have been charged with spying for Saddam Hussein’s intelligence service, supplying the executed dictator’s regime with information about its enemies in the United States, according to federal court documents unsealed today. Ghazi Al-Awadi, 78, of Dearborn, allegedly told the Iraqi Intelligence Service in 1997 that he killed his son-in-law because the man belonged to an anti-Hussein political party, court documents said. Najib Shemami, 59, of Sterling Heights, allegedly provided Iraqi intelligence with information about Iraqi expatriates who might be called upon to guide U.S. troops during the invasion of Iraq and potential political candidates for the new government.

The charges were based on Iraqi intelligence documents captured by U.S. forces in Iraq. The men are believed to be the first Detroit-area residents to be charged on the basis of such documents, which were authenticated by former members of the Iraqi Intelligence Service.

On Monday, a federal jury in Chicago convicted Sami Latchin, 59, of Des Plaines, Ill., of working as an Iraqi sleeper agent, spying on Iraqi dissidents in the United States. He is facing a possible 40-year prison sentence. “Espionage is a federal crime that strikes at the heart of our nation’s security,” U.S. Attorney Stephen Murphy said today in Detroit. Iraqi Americans said the charges, if true, are serious. “If they cooperated with Saddam Hussein, as you are telling me, they have to be punished,” said Dr. Jacoub Mansour, a West Bloomfield physician and former president of the Chaldean Federation of America. Based on the charges, he said, the men may have supplied information that may have led to the persecution and deaths of people in Iraq.

Al-Awadi’s lawyer, Deputy Federal Defender Richard Helfrick, declined to comment. Shemami’s lawyer, Juan Mateo of Detroit, said: “I’ve known the family for many years now. They are a hardworking Chaldean family that, in my opinion, would never do anything to hurt the United States.” Both men are charged with conspiring to act as agents of a foreign government without the approval of the attorney general, and acting as an agent for a foreign government. Shemami also is charged with violating the U.S. International Emergency Powers Act and making false statements to the FBI.

The most serious charge against Shemami, violating the emergency powers act, carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The most serious charge against Al-Awadi, acting as a foreign agent, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. U.S. Magistrate Judge Donald Scheer freed both men on $10,000 bonds following brief appearances Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Detroit. He ordered both men to surrender their passports.

Both men are U.S. citizens. Shemami is married, has nine children, has lived in the United States for about 40 years and is disabled, Mateo said. Al-Awadi, who lives alone in an apartment and appeared frail and hard of hearing during today's court hearing, has been in the United States since 1974, court records said. He has seven children and lives on Social Security. In 1996, he was paroled from the Michigan Department of Corrections after serving six years of a 5- to 15-year sentence for manslaughter in the stabbing of his son-in-law, Imad Muttar, in Dearborn.

The captured documents said Al-Awadi, code named Ghassan, met with Iraqi officials in 1997, offered to cooperate and said he had killed his son-in-law for belonging to the Al-Da’wa Party in the United States. The documents said he provided information about a retired Iraqi physician who was planning to flee to the United States and his nephew, a major general in Iraq, who allegedly was put under surveillance as a result of Al-Awadi’s information. When the FBI interview him in 2006, he denied working as an Iraqi agent, court documents said, adding that he had gone overseas in 1997, 2001 and 2002 to visit family members.

U.S. may open doors to 25,000 refugees
April 18, 2007

The United States could take in up to 25,000 Iraqi refugees this year -- more than three times the number it previously agreed to admit -- in an effort to provide some relief to the crisis affecting several Arab countries, the State Department said yesterday.

The department also said it plans to allow Iraqis and Afghans working for the U.S. government in their respective countries to immigrate to the United States after only three years of service instead of the current 15 required by law.

‘Extremists seeking recruits in UK universities’
Wednesday, April 18, 2007

LAHORE: British universities will be warned this week that they are being targeted by Islamic extremist groups looking for recruits, reports the Telegraph. “A conference of chief security officers will hear that religious radicals remain active on campuses and have infiltrated at least 20 institutions,” writes Philip Johnston in the British newspaper. Prof Anthony Glees, of the Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies at Brunel University, will say the threat must be “urgently addressed”.

The government has issued guidance to universities over how to deal with the threat. Bill Rammell, the higher education minister, said it was “real, but not widespread”. But Prof Glees will tell a conference of the Association of University Chief Security Officers in Exeter that there is a danger of complacency. “We must accept this problem is widespread and underestimated,’’ he will say. “Unless decisive action against campus extremism is taken, the security situation in the UK can only deteriorate.”

Prof Glees believes that extremist group al-Muhajiroun has infiltrated universities, and followers of Omar Bakri Mohammed, its founder, are still operational in several campuses. Another radical group, Hizbut Tahrir, is also active in universities and colleges. Prof Glees produced a report last year that listed more than 20 institutions where “extremist and/or terror groups” had been detected.

Prof Glees was concerned that universities were so desperate to fill places with overseas students that they no longer vetted foreign applicants properly or even required hard proof of identity. Muslim organisations and some student groups challenged his claims. Student organisations maintain that radicalism is not widespread and voiced concern that singling out Muslim students could “jeopardise trust and confidence between staff and students”.

Teacher thought youth was Muslim (Ohio)
Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Christopher Paul is accused of federal terrorism charges. Recalling a student's paper on the bloody Crusades for the Holy Land has given the teacher who assigned it pause 26 years later. The paper's author, Christopher Paul, is now accused of training al-Qaida terrorists.

Paul was a sophomore at Worthington High School in 1981 when he wrote the paper for Mark Ellwood's world history class. Ellwood still teaches history at the school, now known as Thomas Worthington High. Elwood's world history course covered the Crusades' effect on Western and Muslim cultures in the Middle Ages. Paul, then known by his given name of Paul Kenyatta Laws, wrote that the Crusades raised Muslims' suspicions about the Christian West that continued into modern times. Paul was surprised to learn that Christians had killed Muslims and Jews during the campaigns, Ellwood said. "I remember we discussed it," he said. "I had the distinct impression in high school that he was Muslim."

Paul was arrested by FBI agents last week and charged with conspiring to support terrorists, conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction and providing support to terrorists. He is accused of plotting and training others for attacks on Americans outside the United States.

FBI PRESS RELEASE

Detroit Field Office

For Immediate Release
Date: April 11, 2007

Andrew G. Arena, Special Agent in Charge (SAC), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Detroit, Michigan, announces the arrest today of Marcia Ottoman, age 43, without incident, for violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 912, for Falsely Assuming or Pretending to be an Assistant United States Attorney.

Ottoman was arrested pursuant to a warrant based on a complaint signed April 9, 2007, in the Eastern District of Michigan, Detroit, Michigan, for her involvement in impersonating an Assistant United States Attorney for preparing and sending e-mails and a letter to a third party purportedly prepared by an Assistant United States Attorney.

Ottoman had her initial appearance this afternoon before a United States Magistrate, Detroit, Michigan, and was released on a $10,000.00 unsecured bond. It is anticipated she will have a preliminary hearing on April 30, 2007.

SAC Arena advised, “This type of conduct by an individual impersonating a Federal official undermines the public’s trust and confidence in the law enforcement system and will not be tolerated”.

NYC’s Public Madrassa
IBD Editorials ^ | 18 April 2007 | Staff

Posted on 04/18/2007 7:15:08 PM PDT by Kitten Festival

Homeland Security: New York City plans to give Brooklyn Arabs and Muslims their own public school where they can speak Arabic. The idea is to promote cultural harmony. But it’s Pollyannaish, and potentially dangerous.

With this culture, tolerance is not mutual. Putting aside the issue of American taxpayers supporting a school dedicated to the study of a foreign culture hostile to our own, the move raises serious security questions.

Will the school, located not far from Ground Zero, condone or encourage jihad? Will it act like a madrassa? How will authorities know any better, if classes are taught in Arabic?

If the school were opened in any other place, it might raise fewer alarms.

But Brooklyn — home to New York’s largest Muslim population — has produced a number of radicals and terrorists. A popular mosque there has been linked to the first World Trade Center bombing and other acts of terrorism.

Happy Patriots’ Day (April 19, 1775)
The Library of Congress, Today in History ^ | April 19, 2007 | NonValueAdded

Posted on 04/18/2007 11:22:01 PM PDT by NonValueAdded

On April 19, 1775, British and American soldiers exchanged fire in the Massachusetts towns of Lexington and Concord. On the night of April 18, the royal governor of Massachusetts, General Thomas Gage, commanded by King George III to suppress the rebellious Americans, had ordered 700 British soldiers, under Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith and Marine Major John Pitcairn, to seize the colonists’ military stores in Concord, some 20 miles west of Boston.

A system of signals and word-of-mouth communication set up by the colonists was effective in forewarning American volunteer militia men of the approach of the British troops. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem “Paul Revere’s Ride” tells how a lantern was displayed in the steeple of Christ Church on the night of April 18, 1775 as a signal to Paul Revere and others.

One if by land, and two if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex, village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm.

At Lexington Green, the British were met by 77 American Minute Men led by John Parker. At the North Bridge in Concord, the British were confronted again, this time by 300 to 400 armed colonists, and were forced to march back to Boston with the Americans firing on them all the way. By the end of the day, the colonists were singing “Yankee Doodle” and the American Revolution had begun.

“Iran’s First Official Nuclear Threat”
By Steve Schippert
FrontPageMagazine.com | April 19, 2007

Last week, Iran announced that it has graduated into the industrial production phase in their nuclear program, claiming to have enriched uranium in a 3,000-centrifuge cascade. “I proudly announce that as of today Iran is among the countries which produce nuclear fuel on an industrial scale,” boasted Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. But while the Iranian claims are questionable, it is what Ahmadinejad said soon after that should garner the lion’s share of attention from the observant. What followed is nothing short of Iran’s first official nuclear threat.”

“FBI Investigating Sabotage of State Power Agency”
By AARON C. DAVIS, Associated Press Writer
Published: April 18, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “SACRAMENTO (AP) _ Federal agents on Tuesday were investigating computer tampering and a bomb threat at the headquarters of the agency that controls California’s electricity transmission.

The incidents had attracted the attention of a local terrorism task force because of the potential impact on the state’s power grid. The California Independent System Operator manages 25,000 miles of electrical transmission lines and operates wholesale power markets.

Stephanie McCorkle, spokeswoman for the agency, said there was no indication the acts were related to terrorism.

“All evidence indicates the suspect acted alone,” she said.

FBI spokeswoman Karen Ernst said a sole suspect had been identified and that the agency planned to make an arrest in the “near future.”

The tampering incident occurred around midnight Sunday and continued into the early morning hours of Monday. It apparently involved someone on or near the agency’s Folsom headquarters cutting power to five computer systems that are used to buy and sell electricity in real-time, McCorkle said.

She said neither the tampering nor the bomb threat disrupted the agency’s operations. Employees were evacuated for about 5½ hours Monday afternoon because of the threat.”

“Amtrak Engineer Still Hospitalized After Attack”
Written by George Warren, Reporter

George Warren’s Report
(News10/KXTV)

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In a separate incident the day after the West Sacramento assault, another Capitol Corridor engineer was slightly injured by a rock thrown in Richmond.

“We’re basically under attack every day,” said Capitol Corridor engineer Roy Cocreham. “It’s actually a very common thing. Getting rocks thrown at us, getting shot at.”

Graham said there’s no specific policy regarding crews leaving the trains. She said the incident remains under investigation and security procedures are being reviewed.

Police questioned several people following the Monday night attack. One juvenile was charged with attempted murder and faces 14 felony counts, including assault with a deadly weapon, train robbery, vandalism and criminal street gang activity.

Because of the severity of the attack, Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig is charging the 17 year old as an adult.

A D.A.’s office spokesman said the teen is a documented member of the infamous Broderick Boys street gang. The gang was the target of a February 2005 injunction increasing penalties for gang members committing crimes in West Sacramento.

The teen is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.”
