Ahmadinejad tells the West: “Abandon your oppressive behavior. Otherwise you and your nations will be harmed”
1938 Alert. “Iran says could reveal new ‘nuclear achievements’,” by Parisa Hafezi for Reuters:
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran will announce unspecified new “nuclear achievements” if the United Nations takes fresh steps against it over its disputed atomic program, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday.
“If they (the United Nations) pass another resolution against Iran, our nation will reveal new nuclear achievements,” Ahmadinejad told a rally in the central province of Fars, the official IRNA news agency reported.
[...]
“The Iranian nation will stand up for its legal right and will not retreat even one iota to preserve its nuclear right,” Ahmadinejad said in a televised speech to a rally in the central Iranian city of Shiraz.
The crowd chanted “Death to America,” and “Nuclear technology is our right.”
Ahmadinejad is not the most powerful figure in Iran’s system of rule which gives the final word on policy, including nuclear affairs, to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
But the president is often the most prominent voice both inside Iran and abroad because of his fiery and usually anti-Western speeches made on regular tours of the country.
“BULLYING METHODS”
The Security Council in March imposed a second round of sanctions on Iran for refusing to halt enrichment work, banning Tehran’s arms exports and putting financial bans on individuals and institutions. That resolution followed one in December.
Ahmadinejad said Iran would not yield to international pressure, calling on the West to give up its “bullying methods”.
“Abandon your oppressive behavior. Otherwise you (the West) and your nations will be harmed,” Ahmadinejad said, without elaborating.
Iran has threatened, if pressured, to review its membership of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the accord that obliges non-nuclear states to renounce the pursuit of atomic weapons.
Iran said on Sunday it would seek bids in the next few days for two new nuclear power plants and will partly run them on fuel produced at home.
Some Western diplomats and analysts say the move was to justify Iran’s insistence on producing its own atomic fuel. Western experts say it would be cheaper for Iran to import fuel, but Tehran says it needs the security of domestic production.
The two new power plants would be built at Bushehr, the southwest port city where Russians are building Iran’s first atomic plant.

“LIBERALS WANT PEACE AT ANY PRICE”
By Dr. Laurie Roth Ph.D.
April 6, 2007
NewsWithViews.com
COMMENTARY SNIPPET: “Last night I had on my radio show, Evan Sayet, an amazing political satirist. Other than by talent and nature being hilarious, he has a lot to say about how modern liberals actually think. In a recent speech at the Heritage Foundation www.Heritage.org he covered just how they are put together. He pointed out in his talk that after several national wars, liberals have wanted to avoid conflict and war at any price. Their answer for that is mindless indiscriminateness. If there are no right or wrongs, good or evil in the world and anything to take a stand on then there can be no fighting, terrorists or wars.
Evan’s talk hit me between the eyes. Don’t we see this unfolding in our country?”

United States Attorney
Southern District of New York
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 16, 2007
BROOKLYN MAN SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS IN PRISON FOR
CONSPIRING TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO OVERSEAS JIHADISTS
AND FOR MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS IN CONNECTION
WITH A TERRORISM INVESTIGATION
MICHAEL J. GARCIA, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that ABDELRAHMAN FARHANE, a/k/a “Abderr Farhan” was sentenced in Manhattan federal court to 13 years in prison. United States District Judge LORETTA A. PRESKA imposed the sentence earlier this afternoon. On November 9, 2006, FARHANE pleaded guilty to a two-count Information charging him with participating in a conspiracy to commit money laundering, the object of which was to provide money for jihadists in Afghanistan and Chechnya to purchase weapons and equipment, and with making a false statement to agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (”FBI”) in connection with a terrorism investigation. According to the documents filed in the case and FARHANEs guilty plea:
In 2001, the FBI became involved in an investigation involving the provision of material support to international and domestic terrorists and terrorist organizations, including fundraising, financing, and recruitment. In connection with that ongoing terrorism-related investigation, in December 2001, a confidential source working at the direction of the FBI (”CS”) visited a retail store in Brooklyn, New York, owned by FARHANE. Over the course of numerous meetings at FARHANEs store, all of which were recorded, the CS and FARHANE discussed sending money overseas to support jihad, specifically so that the “fighters” in Chechnya and Afghanistan could obtain wireless communications equipment and advanced weaponry.
During one of these meetings, FARHANE indicated that he would ask some “brothers” for help in determining the best way to send money to the jihadists. Subsequently and to that end, FARHANE introduced the CS to TARIK SHAH. (SHAH was later charged in the same Indictment as FARHANE with conspiring to provide material support to the al Qaeda terrorist organization; SHAH pleaded guilty to that charge and is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge PRESKA on July 10, 2007). The CS, FARHANE and SHAH continued to discuss how money could be sent to support jihadist fighters overseas, with FARHANE providing suggestions concerning whether a specific “brother” who could assist them was trustworthy, and how to structure money transactions so as not to trigger government scrutiny.
Shortly following SHAHs arrest on material support charges in May 2005, FBI agents went to speak with FARHANE on June 9, 2005 concerning his contacts with SHAH and others who appeared to be able and willing to get money to mujahideen fighters. After having been warned that making false statements to federal officials is a crime, FARHANE provided materially false information about his contacts with the CS and SHAH, and falsely denied the substance of their recorded conversations concerning sending money to terrorist fighters overseas.
During his guilty plea, FARHANE acknowledged, among other things, that he agreed to “transfer money to mujahideen in Afghanistan and Chechnya,” and that he lied to FBI agents involved in an investigation on that subject.
FARHANE has been detained at the Metropolitan Correctional Center since February 24, 2006. FARHANE, 52, formerly lived in Brooklyn, New York.
Another defendant in this case, MAHMUD FARUQ BRENT, a/k/a Mahmud Al Mutazzim, pleaded guilty on April 2, 2007 to charges of conspiring to provide material support to the Laskare- Taiba terrorist organization. BRENT is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge PRESKA on July 10, 2007. The final defendant in this case, RAFIQ SABIR, is charged with conspiring to provide and providing material support to the al Qaeda terrorist organization. SABIRs jury trial is scheduled to begin on April 27, 2007, in front of Judge PRESKA.
Mr. GARCIA praised the efforts of the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York City Police Department, for their extraordinary efforts in the investigation and prosecution of this case.
Assistant United States Attorneys JENNIFER G. RODGERS, VICTOR L. HOU, and KARL METZNER are in charge of the prosecution.

RADIOACTIVE material has been stolen from Olympic Dam Mine in a major security breach at the Roxby Downs site.
BHP yesterday revealed 10 300g jars of yellowcake uranium samples had been found at the company's nearby village which housed 1300 contractors. The village, which is not part of Roxby Downs township, accommodates employees who are not permanently employed at the site. Police are now investigating who was responsible for removing the uranium.
BHP did not reveal how the material, which had been sent back to BHP from the Honeywell conversion facility in the U.S., had been smuggled out of the mine site or how it had been discovered. It also would not detail the radioactive levels where the uranium was found but strongly denied the material posed any health risk to workers or the public.

Morocco: Police Fear Suicide Bombers To Target Casabanca Airport
Casablanca, 17 April 2007 - Police suspect a group of would-be suicide bombers are preparing to strike the area around Casablanca's international Muhammad V airport or the airport itself and are heavily patrolling the main road leading to it from the city centre, London-based Arabic-language daily al-Zaman reported Tuesday.
The road goes through a number of poor neighbourhoods including Sidi Moumin, where on 10 March an accidental suicide bomb attack at an internet cafe led police to discover a terror cell, and al-Fida, the scene on 11 April of a police operation in which four alleged terrorists died.
Two suicide bombers last Saturday blew themselves up in Casablanca's city centre close to the US consulate and police suspect many others are ready to strike.
Meanwhile US diplomatic sources said 300 US troops are helping the local army in anti-terror exercises taking place this month on the southern desert area of Tantan

“Muslim Anti-Jewish Crusade Also Pursues Christians”
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “(IsraelNN.com) Muslim fundamentalists, aligned with Al Qaeda, bombed a Christian bookstore and two Internet cafes in Gaza on Saturday following previous attacks on churches as part of its religious crusade to replace the secular Fatah faction.
The “Sword of Islam” terrorist group took responsibility for the bombings of Internet cafes and music stores, which they consider an offense to the Muslim religion because they represent Western society.
The same group has issued warnings to Gaza women not to hang out in Internet cafes. The Swords of Islam has bombed more than a dozen Internet cafes in several weeks and destroyed the vehicle of one young man who was playing his radio tape at high volume. It also ordered women to wear a full-face veil.
Muslim courts in the Palestinian Authority (PA) increasingly operate as the moral authority over local areas, and one town in Samaria barred a music and dance festival.
The Muslim crusade has spread across the ocean to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the local Community and Technology College last week was accused of promoting religion because it acceded to Muslim demands for foot-washing basins, used by Muslims before prayers. The Minneapolis Star Tribune noted that the same college removed a coffee cart form the campus because it was playing music related to Christmas.”

Amtrak engineer dragged off train, assaulted
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 4/17/7 | Michael Cabanatuan
Posted on 04/17/2007 9:22:52 PM PDT by SmithL
The engineer of an Amtrak Capitol Corridor train was seriously injured Monday night in West Sacramento after a group of people forced the train to stop, dragged the engineer from the train and assaulted him with rocks and bottles, according to Capitol Corridor officials.
The attack occurred as the train from the Bay Area neared the I Street Bridge to Sacramentos rail station and slowed for a signal, said Eugene Skoropowski, managing director of the Capitol Corridor, said. A group of people stood on the tracks to block the train, which stopped. When the engineer went downstairs and opened the door, he was dragged off the train and assaulted, Skoropowski said.

“Attacks likely first part of al Qaeda plot, officials say”
By Andrew Borowiec
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
April 17, 2007
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “NICOSIA, Cyprus — North African authorities say a wave of suicide attacks in Morocco and Algeria over the past week may be the first phase of an al Qaeda plot drafted in Sudan three years ago.
The plan calls for a reign of terror, implantation of guerrilla units in mountain hideouts, a paralysis of Algerian oil supplies and of tourist resorts in Tunisia and Morocco, a senior North African official said.
Other officials said last week’s bombings in Algiers, which killed 33 persons and wounded 22, and a series of suicide explosions in Casablanca, Morocco’s main port, may signal the start of the campaign.”

Local Afghans Lead Troops to Weapons, Explosives
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, April 17, 2007 Afghan and coalition forces found three caches containing weapons and explosive materials during operations around Afghanistan the past two days.
Afghan national police and coalition forces found two weapons caches yesterday near Jalalbad after receiving tips from Afghan citizens of Pachir village in the Pachir Wa Agam district of Nangarhar province.
The stockpiles found in Pachir and Candibagh villages contained two artillery rounds, 37 rocket propelled grenade rounds, two RPG boosters, 54 bomblets, 300 rounds of 12.77 mm machine-gun ammunition and a bag of powder explosives. The munitions recovered are commonly used by Taliban extremists and foreign fighters to build improvised explosive devices, military officials said.
The Afghan populace is tired of the destruction brought about by the Taliban and foreign fighter insurgents, said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force 82 spokesman. Their continued effort to turn in weapons caches is a significant indication that there is growing support for the Afghan government.
Cooperative Afghan civilians revealed the location of an IED weapons cache to Afghan border police and coalition forces April 15 in the Sherzad district of Nangarhar province.
Hidden in a compound in Tutu village, combined forces discovered a cache containing 14 rocket propelled grenade rounds, five 82 mm mortar rounds, grenades, multiple brands of chargers, various types of fuses, and 500 feet of detonation cord. The contents of the weapons cache, commonly used to build IEDs, were believed to be used in several recent IED attacks in Sherzad and Khogyani districts, military officials said.
Afghan tribal leaders have called upon their people to turn in all weapons and munitions not used for personal protection, said Belcher. Afghans are taking responsibility for their safety and security by reporting the locations of weapons caches.
Over the past two weeks, multiple weapons caches have been recovered from the Bati Kot, Shinwar, Achin, Khogyani, and Sherad districts of Nangarhar province.
