“Jury Selection Begins for Jose Padilla”

ARTICLE SNIIPPET: “MIAMI (AP) - Jury selection began Monday for the trial of alleged al-Qaida operative Jose Padilla and two co-defendants, with potential jurors questioned about their knowledge of Padilla’s link to a purported “dirty bomb” plot.
The allegations that Padilla, a U.S. citizen held as an enemy combatant for 3 1/2 years, sought to detonate a radioactive “dirty bomb” inside the United States are not part of the criminal case. But the Bush administration initially accused Padilla of such a plot shortly after he was arrested in May 2002 at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
“If I said to you the phrase ‘dirty bomber,’ what does that mean?” U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke asked one prospective juror.
“Jose Padilla,” the man answered.
Others in the jury pool of more than 300 people had definite opinions about a supposed connection between Islam and terrorism around the world.
“I think the religion espouses intolerance of other religions and looks to a situation where they are either going to kill non-Muslims or subjugate them,” one potential male juror said.”

All Israelis in Virginia Tech – safe and sound

Israeli embassy in the US has been following the goings on at the Virginia Tech University, following a shooting rampage on campus that killed 33 people, including the shooter.
As soon as the embassy was informed of the attack, it started to locate all of the Israeli students and lecturers in the university and has reported that they are all safe and sound. (Yitzhak Benhorin – Washington)

“It seemed so strange,” Sheehan said. “Because he peaked in twice, earlier in the lesson, like he was looking for someone, somebody, before he started shooting. But then we all heard something like drilling in the walls, and someone thought they sounded like bullets. That’s when we blockaded the door to stop anyone from coming in.”
“He was just a normal looking kid, Asian, but he had on a Boy Scout type outfit. He wore a tan button up vest, and this black vest, maybe it was for ammo or something.”
“I saw bullets hit people’s body,” Sheehan said.

VT Shooting Survivor Describes Incident
Derek O’Dell, a sophomore biology major, was in class in Norris Hall when a gunman walked in and started firing. MSNBC interviewed O’Dell from the hospital, where he was recovering from a bullet wound to his arm. “At first I thought it was joke,” O’Dell said. “He just started shooting.”
O’Dell said he was one of 10-15 people shot in his classroom, possibly including his professor. After the gunman moved on, the survivors barricaded the door. O’Dell described the shooter: “He was about in his 20’s, I would say. He was Asian. He had on a maroon hat and a black leather jacket.”
Here’s a cell phone video of the VT campus. In the background, you can hear multiple gunshots going off.
