Ahmadinejad Vows News Soon on Atomic Work
-Full Story-

Iran's president promised on Sunday Iranians would soon hear more news about the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, which the West believes is a covert effort to build atomic bombs despite Tehran's denials.

"The Iranian nation will soon hear fresh news about our country's nuclear transition," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying.

He did not give details about any announcements or when the news would be released but Ahmadinejad is due to hold a news conference on Tuesday.

Jordan's military court convicted six alleged militants of planning suicide attacks against Jordan's main international airport and against hotels hosting Israeli and American tourists. None of the attacks were carried out.

The six, who included three fugitives not present at the trial, received jail terms ranging from 15 years to life with hard labor. A seventh man, 48-year-old Iraqi Abdul-Karim Ikhdeir al-Jmeily, was acquitted for lack of evidence. (AP)

"Iraq bomb explodes near school"

A suicide bomber has blown up a truck near a police station and a school in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, killing at least 12 people.

More than 130 were injured in the blast, police said.

In other violence, the handcuffed bodies of 19 workers kidnapped north of Baghdad have been found.

US Senator John McCain, leading a congressional delegation to Baghdad, has insisted the US-Iraqi security crackdown in Baghdad is working.

The suicide bomber rammed a truck into concrete barriers surrounding Kirkuk's police criminal investigation department, detonating explosives that had been hidden under a load of flour.

At least 20 children who had been playing at a nearby school were among the wounded, Brig Gen Sarhat Qadir said, but he could not say how many."

"As long as you are hated, it's better to be feared"
By James Lewis

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Tehran isn't interested in loving the West, or even in tolerating us. If you doubt it, just listen to the Khomeini gang. Since the 1979 they've been yelling "Death to America! Death to Israel!" Have we not heard?

Even while the Brit Left is busily trying to figure out a way to blame America for Tehran's barefaced kidnapping of 15 UK Service personnel, The Telegraph is rediscovering common sense. In an editorial entitled, "If they hate us, let them also fear us" they are drawing the obvious conclusions.

No doubt a lot of Europeans were secretly glad that they were not the target of all that mass hatred. But of course that's simple self delusion. Khomeini and his followers were taught to hate the whole West, including Europe and America --- for its wealth, power, sexual openness, women's liberation, homosexual freedoms, capitalism, Christianity, its free press, its Marxoid intellectuals, and for conquering Andaluz in 1495. (If you forgot how we conquered Andaluz and drove out the Muslims, Ahmadinejad hasn't. Nor has Osama Bin Laden.)

In fact, Europe has very conveniently blacked out its own history."

"If the Iranians hate us, let them also fear us"

Last Updated: 12:01am BST 31/03/2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "It is one thing to be disliked; quite another to be despised. Iran would not have kidnapped our Servicemen without having considered our rules of engagement, our diplomatic isolation and our likely military response, and made a rough calculation of how likely they were to get away with their piracy.

There was a time when British citizenship afforded a degree of protection from foreign harassment."

Carried over from previous thread.

The levels of tension are ratcheting upward sharply and are being pushed by the British. According to some of the UK freepers around here, it's unlikely that there is the ability for Britain to strike on their own against Iran without considerable US assistance. Do you concur? If so, then why has Britain taken the measures of cutting off diplomatic relations etc? Is there a SpecOps role for SAS? I personally don't think so....at least not in the form of any sort of hostage rescue, but perhaps a more traditional mission in a regional conflict?

The Brits have limited offensive capabilities in the region, mainly focused upon the peace keeping operations in S. Iraq. They don't have the long range equipment or personnel to launch a meaningful strike on their own. Any action that would be taken would have to have at the minimum, US ok. Right now Blair is between a rock and a hard place, having already committed to withdrawing British troops from S. Iraq and maintaining a limp noodle posture responsible for the easy capture of their personel. That combined with the treasonous nature of the Democrat controlled congress, has emboldened Iran (shades of Jimmih) and hostage taking seems to be a favorite pastime for them (and they play the PR quite well).

With that said, the president has now clearly stated the need for 'regime change' in Iran. The parallels to Iraq are not mistakable. That would indicate that a US lead action is soon to come. The Brits would certainly assist that action with their assets. I think a naval blockaid may be the earliest indicator of a more agressive posture - deny them the gasoline they need will severely hit their pocket books and grow discontent against the ruling mulahs.

Parallel indicators - Coalition forces are hitting Taliban / AQ forces hard and early to blunt their 'spring offensive'. Last year's action was highly touted, but a significant failure due to high losses and capture/death of key leaders. Slapping them down early will provide a breather for assets to be shifted elsewhere.

Finally, if the Eisenhower strike group hangs around longer after Nimitz arrives -or- the Regan group starts heading towards the Indian Ocean from the China Sea.....

Operations Net 22 Suspects in Iraq; Seven Killed in Bombings

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, April 1, 2007 – Recent military operations resulted in the death of one terrorist and the detention of 22, while car bombings in Iraq yesterday killed seven Iraqi civilians, military officials said.

Near the Syrian border today, coalition forces killed one armed terrorist and captured two suspected terrorists with alleged ties to an al-Qaeda foreign fighter facilitation network. In Baghdad, two more foreign fighter facilitation network suspects were detained.

During an operation March 29 in Arab Jabour, coalition forces detained one suspected terrorist and destroyed a weapons cache found in the man’s vehicle. The weapons consisted of a Soviet DShK anti-aircraft machinegun and several small-arms weapons.

In Mosul, coalition forces detained six suspects with alleged involvement in the distribution of bomb-making material. Four others were detained with alleged ties to al Qaeda operations.

Yesterday, south of Fallujah, coalition forces captured five suspects with reported links to foreign fighter facilitation and terrorist financing operations.

In Sadr City yesterday, Iraqi forces, with coalition advisors, detained two suspected terrorists during an evening raid targeting insurgent forces.

As ground forces approached the targeted area, they began taking enemy fire. Ground forces called for air support, and coalition aircraft suppressed the enemy fire. One building received minor damage during the air strike.

Despite reports from individuals and some media organizations, military officials said yesterday that coalition forces were not involved in air strikes March 30 over Sadr City.

A Military Transition Team from 425th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, received a report yesterday from the Provincial Joint Coordination Center in Babil province that an explosion occurred at a gas station in the center of the city of Hillah, two blocks north of the Iraqi Police headquarters building. Two civilians were reported killed, and 21 were wounded in the blast.

Another car bomb exploded in Sadr City yesterday, killing five Iraqis and wounding 15 near the Al Sadr hospital.

Coalition Forces Kill Six Terrorists, Detain 10 Suspects

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, April 2, 2007 – Coalition forces killed six terrorists and detained 10 suspects yesterday and today during operations targeting al Qaeda in Iraq couriers and vehicle-bomb cells, military officials reported.

Ground forces killed six terrorists tied to vehicle-bomb attacks against Iraqi and coalition forces today in Mosul. During the operation, ground forces entered the first of two targeted buildings and engaged three hostile men, including one armed with a pistol, officials said.

As one of the men charged at coalition forces, self-defense measures were used, killing the three terrorists. While approaching the second building, coalition forces began receiving enemy fire. Coalition forces returned fire, killing three more terrorists.

Officials report that three suspects were detained today in Baghdad with alleged ties to al Qaeda courier operations, and three more were detained for alleged involvement with car-bomb operations.

In other operations, officials report that coalition forces yesterday captured two suspected terrorists southeast of the Mosul who are allegedly involved in vehicle-bomb and rocket attacks against Iraqi and coalition forces.

Coalition forces captured a suspected senior-level al Qaeda in Iraq courier and an associate in an operation north of Karmah yesterday, while Iraqi police forces conducted an operation in Baghdad capturing a suspect believed to be involved in insurgent activities, military officials said.

With coalition advisors present for support, Iraqi forces raided a residence in the Shuada district of Kut, southeast of Baghdad, and captured their primary target without incident.

Iraqi forces also detained one other suspicious individual who was present during the operation. The primary target of this operation is alleged to be responsible for weapon smuggling and roadside bomb activities intended to kill Iraqi citizens, Iraqi security forces and coalition forces.

"These operations demonstrate that the coalition continues to whittle away at the al Qaeda in Iraq network," said Army Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, Multinational Force Iraq spokesman.

"Al Qaeda continues to demonstrate they are only interested in murder and destruction and are not interested in the peaceful future of a united Iraq,” Garver said. “Eliminating the threat of al Qaeda will make Iraq safer for all Iraqis."
