Run Fred Run

If Republicans want star power, street smarts and likeability rolled into one, they could do a good deal worse than the former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson...
He is clearly the candidate Democrats most fear. He is an articulate (whoops) conservative who also is quick on his feet and brings the gravitas and tough-mindedness that we need in the presidency.
He is used to the give and take of Washington politics, knowledge which would make him more effective than President Bush in managing the Democratic attack machine. He has also thrived as a conservative in a Hollywood culture that can be unforgiving toward anyone to the right of Bill Clinton.
These are all good reasons for Thompson to consider running. But there is one overriding reason. His nation needs him.
Obama is charismatic and Hilary is shrewd, but neither of them are equipped to fight the war that this nation will face over the next decade. The Democratic Party's treatment of President Bush since the moment he was sworn in underscores that they are not serious about solving problems or winning the war. The current scandal-mongering on even petty issues suggests to me they are not a party to be trusted with issues of war and peace...
Thompson has the charisma, the toughness and the political aptitude to move the nation forward at home and abroad. And he seems a genuinely good guy with conservative values.
It is my guess that he would run away with the Republican nomination if he entered the race. And that he would be a formidable force against any Democratic contender. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if liberal Hollywood started offering him major movie deals in the hopes of keeping him out of the race...

If Fred Thompson runs , liberals will go where they belong ,at the back of the bus. From the posts I have been reading on the net. Rudy is no republican. If you want the rest of the country to go wild like new York, just tell Fred not to run and vote for Rudy. If you want conservatives back in power that would tell Nancy the traitor off big time . elect Fred!

Good points, both of them.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course. But have you ever heard of a stalking horse? A stalking horse? Of course, of course. His name is Mister Fred. Perhaps.... If only that he makes the other candidates, outside of Giuliani, look that much worse.
Right now, however, he and Giuliani are the only GOP candidates, potential or otherwise, I could vote for without holding my nose.
To: Sturm Ruger
In my opinion, he is our only hope. Not just as Republicans but also for our country.
I don't see how we (Republicans) can do any better.

Fred, tease us no more. Declare, and you'll be tied with Giulani within a week, while Romney and McCain fade to oblivion. He's the only one who I'd open my checkbook for right now, and I think he'd unite the party in record time.
And I'm salivating at the thought of seeing him in the general election debates against anyone the Dems put up.

And, best of all, the Dummies are scared to death of his candidacy.
Fred is the only conservative I can think of that actually can beat the combined forces of the MSM and the Demoncrat Party.

The author of this article is quite right in his description of the Dems and their candidates..
They are NOT "serious" people..and they should be no where near the White House during this time in our history..at war, and being threatened from many, many fronts.

From what I've read, Fred Thompson has a rating of 86% fom the ACU during his career in the Senate. Not too shabby if you ask me. I say go for it Fred!

Fred, tease us no more. Declare, and you'll be tied with Giulani within a week, while Romney and McCain fade to oblivion. If you want Fred, you should suck it up and get used to the tease. This is far and away his best strategy. Right now he isn't officially a candidate and he isn't spending any money and yet he's getting a flood of free publicity. People are organizing the closest thing to a true grassroots draft movement that I've seen in a long, long time.
Meanwhile Fred can keep filling in for Paul Harvey with pithy radio essays, and his Law & Order show can remain on the air. More and more polls will include his name and show him moving up. Why in the world would he want to short-circuit all these benefits by formally declaring and becoming just another contender?
Sometime in the fall he can finally throw his hat into the ring, and begin collecting money and campaigning in the early primary states. In the meantime he'll just keep having visible meetings with prominent people and making statements every now and then that he's "still leaving the door open".

I would be curious to see a (serious) post from someone who isn't for Fred. Not some of the crap that we see here on FR, but a serious analysis, and one with an alternative candidate.
Anyone up to that? Tell us why you dont' support Fred, and who your alternative is and why.
My guess is that no one will make a serious effort that. The point being, this election cycle was made for Fred. The timing is right, no serious/longterm committed conservative has thrown his hat in. And though the GOP field and the party itself is weak, the D's have pretty high negatives.
So, this is perfect timing for Fred.
Honestly, I think the Presidency is his for the taking, if he decides to go for it.
But...again...if someone has a different and intelligent opinion otherwise, I would be curious to know the reasons.

Thank you! Every time you post your negative suff on a Fred thread, I figure Fred picks up a couple of more new supporters. You're doing a great job for the Draft Fred Thompson greassroots movement. Please don't change a single thing that you're doing, LOL!
