This is another earthquake, different and larger than the quake off of Honshu, Japan.
More information on the way...
Wow, a list.
Given how many injection wells there have been drilled in Texas, I'd guess we're the earthquake center of the earth!
Would those be called salt shakers?
There are 3 quakes currently being monitored at FR:
being monitored on this thread
a 7.2 quake at VANUATU
a 6.0 aftershock at VANUATU
a 6.7 quake NEAR THE WEST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN, being monitored on another thread.
Does that help?

At one time, weren't they injecting water into a fault in the ME (Iran I believe) to induce smaller earthquakes in order to prevent one large one?
Interesting. I never found "Stuned Beeber" to be funny, yet sometimes the things that are attributed to being "Bush's Fault" can be. To each their own.
You have not been paying attention.
I certainly hope that your friend is alright, and that all is well for you.
It is exactly so, that the media, and the left in this country has been finding ways to blame President Bush for a whole lot of things.
In my opinion, Free Republic is here for us to rail against the crap that is being spoon fed to Americans by so called Journalists, and you seem to be one who has buying into their nonsense.
Take a pill and chill.
Sarcasm is our lifeline these days.
Post #75 says 7.1 at Honshu.... I'll just wait an' see how it shakes out. (ouch!)
"During the past several years, salt water injection in Paradox Valley has triggered earthquakes, and a reduction in well pressure has diminished the size of the earthquakes."

Yikes...those are three fairly significant ones in the Pacific in a short time.
It will probably be a couple of days before they all agree on a number
There are 4 things you can count on. The sun rising, taxes, death, and "Bush' fault on every thread. Sunshine is nice, but you just have to live with the other 3:')
LOL!
There's a vast literature on induced seismicity from well injection - just do a google search - like I said the most famous instance was injection of waste in a deep well at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal near Denver in the 1960s.
The other main cause of human-induced earthquakes is the filling of reservoirs.
Obviously activities like this don't generate Magnitude 7+ earthquakes, and most injection caused quakes are quite small - there have been some reservoir-filling quakes that have caused damage, though.
I suspect your proclamation that even investigating injection as a cause of earthquakes in Oklahoma was "asinine" wasn't based on a careful review of scientific literature.
Shaken planet syndrome.
It is funny. Trust me on this one. :)
We had a tropical storm awhile back that missed us by about 50 miles of being a hurricane. I made a couple of jokes. What else are you going to do?
I wish you'd just be series.
Look at a map. It's really interesting. I was surprised by how many there actually are in Texas.
