Last night, nearly 3,000 people received a mini lesson on the origin of the universe from perhaps the worlds most famous cosmologist, Stephen Hawking.
Hawking spoke to a packed audience in Zellerbach Hall about how Albert Einsteins general theory of relativity and quantum theory explained the creation of the universe.
...
His lecture, which touched upon subjects such as black holes and spacetime, was peppered with quips that drew laughs from the audience.
If one believed that the universe had a beginning, the obvious question was, what happened before the beginning, Hawking said. What was God doing before He made the world?"

So you don't believe that the earth was the purpose of creation? That idea turns the first chapter of Genesis on it's head.
But to think that it is the only purpose of creation? Isn't that quite a kind of hubris?
if the center of hte universe is everywhere- then it only stands to reason that the earth is indeed at the center- so what's the argument?
It becomes an argument - again - if you say that Alpha Centauri is indeed at the center...
It's like confusing a maximal element with a biggest element in a poset.
Reading skills? - The purpose of creation is clearly stated to be man, not the earth. The earth is simply the point of incubation, and scheduled for destruction, along with the rest of the material universe in the comparatively near future. Hubris? Makes no sense whatsoever. If you want to know what God's word says, you have to read it.
Comparatively near future
? For a young earth creationist, that must be threatening :-) A couple of billion years for the rest of us, I think...
Stay under the blankets; you'll never be ready for reality.
Hawking will soon meet God the creator and I have a feeling he won't be asking God any questions!
Hawking is NOT a brilliant scientist or he would not let his hatred of Christianity influence his scientific method.
His primary driving force is not to scientifically search for truth but to "make fun of God and Christians"
In another time, his entertainment would be feeding us to the lions but now he has to settle for silly jokes that his cult followers actually take seriously.
