Sean Hannity's Gospel
hli.org ^ | 03/09/07 | Rev. Thomas Euteneuer

Posted on 03/09/2007 9:39:24 PM PST by Caravaggio

In the face of modern challenges to the Faith, Catholics who have a high profile in media, culture and government have a very grave responsibility to witness it correctly; otherwise, they will be held accountable in heaven for their anti-witness which affects the faith of millions.

For example, last Friday Sean Hannity took a few moments out of his afternoon radio show to make an apology. When I heard that the rather brash Hannity was actually going to apologize for something I was interested to find out what that would be. At first he sounded very sincere in saying we have to take responsibility for our mistakes. Fine so far. Then he went on to tell his hearers that he had taken two bites of a chicken sandwich that day because he had been traveling and literally forgot it was a Friday of Lent. He stopped eating it when he realized it was a Friday, but he used the opportunity on the show to make a fairly big deal about the "eat meat on Friday and you can go to hell" issue.

Well, even though he claims to be a "good Catholic," Hannity is hardly a credible commentator on Catholic matters. The chicken sandwich scandal was fairly trivial in the overall scheme of his show, but it said much more about the depth of his faith than anything else. I suspect that a great number of Catholics live their faith in the same way—rule-bound and juvenile—but we need something better from a public "Catholic" like Hannity. We need a vibrant witness of someone who knows and embraces his Faith as deeply as he articulates his political passions.

Why do the bishops and priests support illegals breaking our laws by coming illegally into our country. I thought the Catholic Church taught that we are to obey the law.

Because many of them preach the gospel of liberation theology and/or related modernist philosophies, and not the perennial truth of the Catholic Church.

Sean came off looking very bad (like Alan) because he would not let the Father speak at all.

I thought Sean sounded like a complete histrionic/blithering idiot. And the stupid statements he made-paraphrasing here: "the Church is lucky to have Catholics after the sex scandals".

And his hissy when the Good Father told him he would deny him the Eucharist. I think Sean went ballistic/crazy because he knew the Priest was 100% correct.

Another Question: Why do the bishops and priests support illegals breaking our laws by coming illegally into our country. I thought the Catholic Church taught that we are to obey the law.

Attendance in church is low and Mexicans and Latinos are churchgoing and $upport the church. I am a practicing catholic but find their motivations (particularly in Los Angeles) very transparent. The worst.

Shill Vannity lost major credibilty with me when it was obvious he was supporting Harold Ford Jr. in ' 06 .
Ford's racist daddy , called a reporter a Cracker and Hannity came to Papa Ford's defense and said he called him a "tracker" .
Now he's pimpin Rudy ...
Get real Shill ....

"That's the Father Euteneuer I know!"

Yeah, Sean sure chose the wrong guy to pick on. Father (in the few moments Sean actually allowed him to speak) blew him out of the water. Sean had no response other than to raise his voice and talk over the good man.

I've seen Fr Euteneuer speak a few times. He's AWESOME. I immediately sent Fr an email of encouragement (while I sent Sean an email informing him know how ignorant he came across).

I didn't see that particular program but, as described, it's just part of what I call the "cable shout-show syndrome." The typical example would be one or to hosts and two, three, or four guests all interrupting each other, simultaneously babbling prepared talking points, with the end result being a cacophany of incoherence.

It's just typical of the rudeness and grandstanding incivility of modern media.

Recently on FOX, Neil Cavuto had Barney Frank on and employed the usual technique. At one point Barney said to Cavuto, "Neil, if you interrupt me every five words WE DON"T HAVE A SHOW!"

I don't like his politics but Frank was right!

HitmanLV and Pyro

I am beginning to question my faith-something I have never done before. I feel very sad and depressed about that. If it is just for the money and they don't care about abortion--what's the point.

Don't let some misguided and corrupt clerics take the precious gift of faith away from you. Though they have received the Sacrament of Holy Orders, they can be as inclined to sin as the rest of us. There are good priests out there. You have to pray for all of them. I recommend the prayers on this thread: Catholic Prayers for the Modern(ist) Age (Catholic Caucus)

Bill O'Reily and Sean Hannity are on the same page in my book. They have absolutely no clue when it comes to church teaching, and yet they pontificate on it as if there was no tomorrow. If they can be that wrong on something I know about, I wonder how accurate they are on everything else.

Sean Came off Badly First he was rude and never let the Padre speak.. Then he tried to Pre-Empt him on the Judging Tactic. Father Entenneur however was 100% correct....

Maybe Sean doesn't realize that any unatural suppression of life is a Grave Sin.The Rythum method he alluded to is 98% effective. Contraception and Condoms at best 60% effective

Oral Contraception in 20%+ plus cases acts as an Abortafacient or Abortion.

The World Health Organization on July 29th 2005 Classified Oral Contraception as a GROUP I Carcinogen or cancer causing agent.Contraception taken orally Increase's Breast Cancer risk by 300% and in Black women 600%. The USA is the leader in consumption of Oral Contraception and leader of incidences of breast cancer in the world!.

Sean needs to read the adult Catholic catechism for an answer. Hope Sean apologizes to father and does fully understand Pride is the root of all sin!

I do listen to Rush when I'm traveling. He was more relevent to conservativism when there was no internet and he was putting out information that was not getting through with the main stream media.

I always questioned Rush and his support for NAFTA! NAFTA was supported by Republicans and Democrats alike. It remains a fine example of bipartisanism just like most Republican and Democratic politicians are bipartisan on illegal immigration issues.

"cable shout-show syndrome."

I have quit watching most of the cable news shows for that reason. Cavuto is one of the worst. The last time (months ago) I watched him, he had one of those "cable shout-shows" go on for nearly 5 minutes with 3 guests talking over each other. By the conclusion, not one of them was heard, and all the viewer got was 3 people shouting and rambling at the same time.

The other thing that irritates me with the 24-hour cable news is this:

Host is doing a live interview. [I think it is interesting.] Suddenly, the host interrupts the guest, thanks him/her, and cuts the interview off "to go to breaking news". The 'breaking news' is a rehash of the news alert that has been running all morning.

One would think that, with 24 hours to fill, the cable news stations could have more indepth interviews and less of the every-three minutes news alerts about Anna's autopsy.

I always questioned Rush and his support for NAFTA!

Rush started out as ultra conservative. Then he went the way of the big business country club Republicans for a long while. More recently he has turned toward conservativism again.

I think there is one reason for his changes in direction and that is -- ratings. I bet when he turned into a big business Republican, his rating suffered.

Sean Hannity is a Rudbot. He is a Republican party sycophant.

Of all things, he is not a role model for a Catholic.

I suspect that the Father is unhappy that Sean Vanity is trying to deceive pro-lifers into voting for partial birth abortion supporter, Guiliani

The Father is not the only one who is unhappy with Hannity for that same reason. I am totally put off Hannity forever by his support for a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual "marriage", pro-gun banning RINO. Hannity is putting party over principle, and believes the only way to keep the other party out of the office is to elect a man who is a carbon copy of the other side's candidates except for having the letter (R) after his name.

First of all that belief is wrong, there are several viable socially conservative pro-life candidates who would be as likely or more likely to win as Giluliani. Second of all, it is never right in God's eyes to promote evil in the vain hope that good will come of it. I believe that if Christians will simply do the right thing and leave the results up to God, it will turn out for the best as only He knows what is best in every situation.

Not only do I think that Hannity is not a "good" Catholic, I don't think he could be classed as a "good" Christian of any denomination as long as he supports an anti-Christian death cultist candidate.

Gosh, NAL, I don't know you, but I feel very sad for your distress over your faith, too. The Church is made up of lots of Sinners, and very few Saints-some of the most public sinners, including Priests and Religious get a lot more coverage and are in positions to proclaim their views, than the saintly folks.

Even when I get frustrated about some of the bad things I read about, or have witnessed in the Catholic Church-Ten years since I swam the Tiber-I never question that I am a member of The Church instituted by Christ.

In my short time as a Catholic, I have been frustrated by liberal Priests, and Sisters, whacky theology, and liturgy, but I've been graced to have found a faithful Priest, and wonderful Parish with no funny business, and it has made all the difference in the world.

Isaw the exchange, and BOTH sides bothered me.Sean needs to be more mindful of what he does and the good Father needs to be equal in his condemnation of public Catholics.I wonder if he would attack Chris Matthews as hard.

You are correct Christ said To Peter "Upon this rock I build MY Church" it is God's Church and sometime people forget that.

this is the Great part is our catholic Tradition and history...
In September 1889 Pope Leo XIII collapsed after Saying Mass in the vatican with a Group of Cardinals Present. The Papal Doctor was summoned to declare Him Dead. He awoke and spoke of himself hearing Christ arguing with the Devil and offering any Century to try and destroy his Church. The Devil accepted the 20th century. Jesus saw that Pope Leo get a quick flyby to hell so he could see what would await mankind if the Devil won.Like most Humans it is very overwhelming... he almost died from It!

Pope Leo XIII penned that same day the St Michael the Archangel Prayer. This was said at the end of each mass until 1955 when it was shortened and then discontinued after Vatican II.

Good Thing for Sean and all of us is God's Divine Mercy and His unfathomable amount of forgiveness.
