KATIE BAR THE DOOR: Anchorwoman not brought into conversations about hiring Rick Kaplan
Drudge Report and NY Slimes ^ | 9 Mar 07 | Drudge and Bill Carter

Posted on 03/09/2007 3:26:59 AM PST by SkyPilot

Rick Kaplan described his new position as the executive producer of the “CBS Evening News” yesterday as “coming home.” He worked on the broadcast in the 1970s when Walter Cronkite was the anchor. But then, he could have said the same thing at almost any television news organization this week.

Enjoy it everyone.

This is a monumental cat fight at See BS.

Mr. Kaplan said, “Everybody is foursquare behind Katie. I don’t have the slightest doubts about Katie’s talent.” He said the key, at a time when news is widely available long before the evening newscast, “is convincing the viewers that you are pushing the stories ahead.”

Yeah, right.

Kaplan is a two faced liberal journalist like Couric, but he is going to make her life hell. He is known as a "bull in a china shop" - meaning he shakes things up. Couric is an out of control News Diva. She has assistants for everything - her hair, her schedule, her food, her shopping, her nails, her clothes, etc, etc. She brought over an army of personal slaves she can order around from NBC and the Today Show when she came to See BS.

Kaplan is going to fire some of them. He is going to dictate orders to Couric, and she is going to explode.

It was Couric's people who leaked this "Katie was not consulted" wounded duck routine to the Washington Compost and the NY Slimes.

This is designed to protect her when Kaplan fires everyone in sight.

From this link....

Kaplan to Take Helm of 'CBS Evening News'

....The highly competitive CBS President and CEO Leslie Moonves would have had to sign off on the change of executive producers. Mr. Moonves personally chose and secured Ms. Couric to lead "Evening News" because of her stardom won in 15 years on NBC's top-ranked "Today" morning show.

I don't watch the dinosaur evening news. I've already seen everything and in more depth far before the 6 oclock hour.

I never watched Couric except accidentally all these years.

I'm still not watching Couric.

".The highly competitive CBS President and CEO Leslie Moonves would have had to sign off on the change of executive producers. "

- You can bet that Kaplan just didn't come over to CBS Evening News because he's good at small talk. His REAL terms of reference for the assignment probably came in a one on one private conversation with Moonves in which he was told what he could and couldn't do, who he could fire, who he couldn't touch and what was to be his deadline for sorting out the mess.
I doubt that Perkie Katie's ass is on the line at this point (too much loss of face for Moonves) but Kaplan might get her in his sights if she tries to begin a guerrilla campaign against his changes. First, he would identify her in house sympathizers and weed them out one by one until she had no supporters left in the newsroom and things could only get worse for her from there.
I don't think Perkie has ever run up against a real organization shark like Kaplan before. I've met a few in my time and these guys eat up their opponents just because they can and they enjoy doing it as a form of amusement. Their mindset is almost beyond belief.

Good post and info. I never liked or hated her, but when she decided to wear black the week of the election after Bush won, she really showed a childish lack of class. It sounds like the power trip might be over.

CSX?

Gee, it's code for Couric Sux!

I know. It's the largest railroad on the East Coast made up of many, many fallen flags. See my home page for news of one of those flags.

When are the exec's going to wake up and realize that Couric isn't the problem. Thier ratings will suck no matter who they to produce or anchor the evening news.

The dinosaur media as a whole is in a freefall spiral to it's death and no thanks to Dan Rather helped See BS along it's fall at a faster rate.

He said the key, at a time when news is widely available long before the evening newscast, “is convincing the viewers that you are pushing the stories ahead.”

No Kap, the key is that you must show the viewers that the news she is presenting is factual and not applied with a liberal tilt.
