Kaplan to Take Helm of 'CBS Evening News'

....The highly competitive CBS President and CEO Leslie Moonves would have had to sign off on the change of executive producers. Mr. Moonves personally chose and secured Ms. Couric to lead "Evening News" because of her stardom won in 15 years on NBC's top-ranked "Today" morning show.

".The highly competitive CBS President and CEO Leslie Moonves would have had to sign off on the change of executive producers. "

- You can bet that Kaplan just didn't come over to CBS Evening News because he's good at small talk. His REAL terms of reference for the assignment probably came in a one on one private conversation with Moonves in which he was told what he could and couldn't do, who he could fire, who he couldn't touch and what was to be his deadline for sorting out the mess.
I doubt that Perkie Katie's ass is on the line at this point (too much loss of face for Moonves) but Kaplan might get her in his sights if she tries to begin a guerrilla campaign against his changes. First, he would identify her in house sympathizers and weed them out one by one until she had no supporters left in the newsroom and things could only get worse for her from there.
I don't think Perkie has ever run up against a real organization shark like Kaplan before. I've met a few in my time and these guys eat up their opponents just because they can and they enjoy doing it as a form of amusement. Their mindset is almost beyond belief.
