it's my understanding that the moron lawyer for Libby went RIGHT ALONG with the notion that Libby is innocent BECAUSE he was "under orders" from Cheney.Under orders to obstruct justice & commit perjury? Is that a valid legal defense? Uh -- NO!!
The MSM is not only obvious but unoriginal. They are trying to show that Cheney channeled Nixon by ordering Libby to lie and block the investigation. As if Cheney was that f------ stupid!!
Unfortunately I'm 47 and probably won't live to see the last Watergate - Vietnam Era politician & media person retire. When they day happens it will be like going to the doctor and finding out the cancer has left the body. This country can't be rid of those people in positions of influence soon enough.

Don't blame Novak. But Armitage and Fleischer deserve your wrath--also Ashcroft for letting himself be noseringed into recusing himself by the very guys who gave Berger a pass.
To: popdonnelly
ABSOLUTELY. If you aren't 100% sure, and have records to support, who you talked to and when, JUST SHUT UP.
I will repeat, though: Libby's lawyer early on took the liberal side by saying he was a victim of his superiors. Stupid, stupid strategy.

Remember Fitz lied and said Libby's guys couldn't bring in CIPA evidence without him testifying... then in closing auguments spoke on Cheney, Plame and the rest.

You are very wrong. Wells knew the deck was stacked. Just wait until this jury appears on TV. Just wait.

Ok - but I do blame Novak - he had it in his hands to end this 2+ years ago.

Try putting yourself in Scooters place or Mrs. Libby's and see if you are laughing then. That would be a little hard to do -- since it would be a cold day in hell before I ever pursued a career as a lifetime Beltway hack.
Mr. and Mrs. Libby are going to retire with more money to their names than most Americans would earn in 100 lifetimes. Don't you lose any sleep over this.

Libby told the GJ that he forgot ten conversations with nine people about a topic he was tasked with dealing with in his very important job, and that having a reporter allegedly bring up the same topic did nothing to refresh his memory and he was hearing it 'as if for the first time.'Can you remember 10 conversations with 9 people that you had years ago? Perhaps, but then again, perhaps you don't have as many conversations with as many different people as Libby has had.
We tend to make fun of politicians who simply say "I don't recall" when asked a question. Turns out, that is the safest thing to say. If you happen to misspeak, you get hung out to dry.

when he mentions the hated "rove and cheney" he's angling for a book contract, late night talkshows, and all the lefty lib party circuits, possibly a political contender too? speaking tours, 10-15k a pop?
To: LS
The minute Libby's defense team started to try to blame Cheney as opposed to blaming WILSON and PLAME for "outing themselves," he was screwed. I didn't understand that stupid line of defense from the get-go Libby's lawyer is a Democrat in a powerful Washington law firm. Understand now.

Fitzgerald has just given reporters free reign to do anything and say anything they want without having to back it up. Hell, they already claim that right don't they?
To: blue-duncan; xzins; jude24
Why should any one cooperate with any governmental investigation and why would any one speak with a reporter? And this verdict will have a very detrimental effect on the government's ability to investigate terrorism and to wage the war on terror. Anyone who gives any information to the FBI or who is questioned by the FBI will have to think twice about whether or not they are going to cooperate. If your version does not comport with the version of someone else, you could be looking at a long prison term because of a faulty memory or the deliberate perjury of others.
In Fitzgerald's zeal to convict someone of something in a case wherein there was no underlying crime, he has placed the security of the entire nation at risk.

I think you are the one who needs to examine the testimony carefully. Libby telling Fleischer, not the other way around. Libby pulling a CIA briefer out of a meeting to talk about Plame.
Though if you are going to believe that all these people said things to him about Plame - when he was specifically asking questions about her - and he just didn't hear any of it, then your mind is made up without regard to any evidence.

Holy cow. An reporter who authors of a book on spies gets on a jury about somebody lying to reporters about spies. I'm sure Libby's attorney knew about it. Why he allowed him to remain is beyond me.
