"We must at all times be politically correct."
Quite the opposite. The feast day of St. Columbus is to be celebrated with solemn processions, bonfires and fireworks. And if they have a city fountain, let it flow with wine [the cheapest one possible] for the occasion.

So, they will honour all the critters that were in the Americas before humans migrated to them from Eastern Asia?

Screw Columbus, he stole the title from Lief Ericson. The Norse were here before him but there was nothing worth stealing to make them stay. Columbus never discovered America 1st because it was occupied when he landed here. I've always favored a Crazy Horse Day in lieu of Columbus Day.

Indigenous Day?

The Indigenous had the Americas for 10,000 years and were still living in tents and wearing animal skins. In 500 years the newcomers replaced them and developed technology that allows us to sit in our heated and lit homes watching reality TV.

Well, OK, forget the reality TV.

What I found interesting in reading history is that in 1492 India (which Columbus thought he'd reached) was called Hindustan at that time, so, he didn't call the natives he met "Indians" because he thought he was there, but, in writing back to his sponsors he said he met some people who were "in Deos" as in "people in god" ... hence the name "Indeos" or Indian ......

sorry ... secondly, it was in 1972 that the Department Of The Interior classified Indians as Native Americans which really PO'd the Indians because they were classified as conquered peoples ... it's like if Germany conquered Israel and then called them German-Isralies .... every Indian I met prefers to be called by their tribal name of which there are over 30 in the US alone ....

What unmittigated BS. If Columbus had not come and had not European civilization and ultimate America liberty come to this continent, then all of these people clamoring for an end to the day honoring Columbus would not have a legislature to "campaign" to.

They'd still be too worried with keeping warm, eating, and fighting off disease and enemy tribes to worry about such pleasantries and extravagances as trying to diss the very people who have ultimately been the source of their freedom and prosperity.

Oh...but I forgot...that's not what this is really about anyway. What it really is about is a bunch of malcontent, left leaning, socialistic, marxistic individuals trying to undercut and water down the American culture of freedom and prosperity that they so hate.

We still celebrate Confederate Memorial Day (Fourth Monday in April) in Alabama.

Some folks don't like it.

I think they should go jump in a lake.

The liberals killed "Columbus Day" in 1992. It's still dead, get over it. Fight some other battle.

I suppose "Aboriginal Day" would be politically incorrect. Whatever. We could, of course, celebrate them both. There are some wrinkles to be ironed out - I can wear a goofy green bowler on St. Paddy's Day when I'm getting sozzled but I bet they'd get ticked off if I wore a war bonnet on Aboriginal Day. Some folks got no sensayuma.

Sounds to me like this is an assault upon the history and heritage of Italian Americans. What next, portraying them as the pioneers of organized crime?
