Senior Taliban leader held in Pakistan
-Full Story-

Pakistani security forces have captured a high-ranking Taliban leader in the southwestern city of Quetta, a senior security official and Taliban sources said late Thursday

The capture of Mullah Obaidullah Akhund marked the first Pakistan arrest of a senior leader of the Islamist militia since it was driven from power in Afghanistan in 2001 when thousands of its fighters fled into Pakistan.

The security official and Taliban sources said Akhund, the third most senior member of the Taliban's 10-member leadership council, was arrested late on Monday, hours after a surprise visit to Pakistan by U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney.

Welcoming the British Government’s New
Strategy to Fight the Financing of Terrorism

The Treasury Department welcomes the British Government's launch yesterday of "The Financial Challenge to Crime and Terrorism," a strategic approach to combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism. We applaud this important announcement by the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Ed Balls, and Home Office Minister, Tony McNulty.

As British Chancellor Gordon Brown noted in a landmark speech on February 13, 2006, one of the most important responsibilities of Finance Ministries worldwide is to detect, disrupt, and dismantle the dangerous activities of terrorists and their supporters in the global financial system.

We applaud this action by the British Government and look forward to working together to advance our common interests, including at the United Nations and through the Financial Action Task Force, whose Presidency the UK will assume in June 2007.

Got another call from Appalachian_Dweller this morning. He wanted me to let everyone know that ExSoldier (Jim) is still in the hospital and still undergoing stress tests. Please continue prayers for him. He definitely needs them.

I'll be online later today and posting here. I've been lurking and trying to tone down my necessity to sit at the computer as much. It has helped and when I talk to people like Roy (A_D), it helps me to realize what a second family you guys on TM really are to me. Again, imploring everyone to please keep up the prayers for Jim.
