Wedge Issues Posted by: “Common Tator” in FreeRepublic.com April 16, 2002

The one thing that amazes me on this site is the belief by some that the conservative position is the majority position.

Mostly people tend to believe it could be the majority position if the right candidate ran, or if it weren't for the media or RINOs or etc, etc. They really don't have a clue.

Roughly 2/3 of the public has firm views. They have made up their minds and do not change them. This group is nearly equally split between the left and the right.

There are about a 1/3 of the population that is never sure. Sometimes it will go left and sometimes it will go right.

When a party restricts itself to its base it will be in a minority party. The "base only" party will be reduced to crying as the other side works its will. In some nations both the left and right restrict themselves to just their base. That nation then develops five or six parties. And all governments in that nation are coalitions of a major party and some of the minor parties. In that situation the minor party always has more influence than its numbers represent. For the Rino and Dino haters that is the worst of all worlds.

Many of Rino and Dino haters try to make ours a 3 or 4 party system. They never figure out that their splinter right or left party would never get much power in a government based on coalitions. They are too small. It is the centrist parties that have a 1/3 of the public as potential members that get the clout in the Multi Party system. As you can see in a 2 party or a 5 or 6 party system the center tends to prevail.

But in our two party system the center is an instrument the major parties use to enact their goals. In the multiparty system it is the center parties that use the right and left to enact their centrist goals. Such a system like those in Italy and France are RINO and DINO paradise.

This nation now and for all of the last 140 years has been roughly 1/3 left, 1/3 right and 1/3 in the middle. Those in the middle who run for office are what we call RINOs and DINOs.

When Republicans drive RINOs out they leave the party to become DINOs and take their political power with them. The Democrat party gets them by default.

Then the Democrats thanks to its Dino buddies have a veto proof house and senate. It was Barry Goldwater's greatest accomplishment. In my BRAIN I knew Barry would elect a lot of DINOs ... and he did.

If a party with most of the center wins the presidency too, they have a filibuster proof senate. That party then can do anything it wants to do. When the party leadership takes control they implement the parties’ core beliefs. It was what LBJ did after Goldwater drove all the RINOs into LBJ's camp. It let LBJ do the "Great Society." LBJ had to have Barry's help to do it. And Barry did what it took to give LBJ the support he needed... LBJ had all the left. Barry gave him all the center.

To win control a party must keep its base and get over half the middle. If the Republicans have more RINOs than the Democrats have DINOs the Republican agenda prevails. If the Democrats have more DINOs than the Republicans have RINOs the Democrat agenda prevails.

Those that demand the defeat of RINOs are doing all they can to enact the leftist agenda. They are the most valuable asset the left has. One of the most effective tactics in politics in the negative campaign.

Negative campaigns are not about getting votes for your candidate. They are about getting the other side's base to not vote for their candidate. Thus if you can get the right to vote against a Rino or not vote at all, you can elect a very liberal candidate.

If you can force the Republicans to nominate a right wing candidate so right wing he can't get the center voters, you elect the left candidate.

True story:

I use to contract houses and I was bs'g with the brick mason building the block basement wall. I happened to notice in his truck that he had a .357 magnum laying on his seat. I asked him what the hell he had a gun laying out in the open for?

He said one day some dog in the subdivision jumped in his truck and stole his sack lunch. Say he heard the commotion and looked up just in time to see the dog running off into the woods with his lunch in his mouth. He said next time he sees that dog he is going to "blow his ass up". LOL.

Who else is there?

Well, it's still very early in the process.

I do agree with you about McCain, though. He is a nut.

When you can figure out how to use a nuke in defense of your home and property, without incinerating you, your family, and your property in the process, we'll entertain your request for a tactical nuke. Until then, we will consider your absurd raising of the issue as a means to obfuscate the real meaning of the Amendment to be typical for your level of understanding, therefore we will now ignore you.

Happily, the task for a Republican is less difficult than a Democrat who has to convince many more moderates he's not a moonbat.

I absolutely accept what you, and Common Tator are propounding. Although I have been in the Conservative movement since the late '50s, I absolutely vote for the party selected Republican candidates, no matter how far from me to the Left I may think they are.

My theory is my Mother's "Blind Date," theory. She advised me to NEVER turn down a blind date, because (besides them invariably being daughters of her friends), "If I didn't particularly like them, they were sure to have a friend that I would like."

My RINO's have friends who are further to the right than they are and will appoint them to those posts with which the real power is wielded over me (and you) in this country. DINO's on the other hand have friends I loathe as much as I do them. Just look at the lasting damage Jimmy Carter inflicted on us with his far-left Jimmy-Jerk-Judges!

I do not understand, however, and never will, how Al Gore and John Kerry, both clearly sociopathic to a remarkable degree, almost became president, each winning 50%.

I do know how Clinton, a patently obvious borderline psychopath, became president, when Ross Perot kept those "in the middle" away from Bush I, and then the totally hapless Dole.

I hope we do not see a "Bull Moose" candidacy in 2008.

Well I am sorry that you and others still don't understand the different definitions for abortionists. Even after I posted to you the information on the suffix -ist.

It's basic English, nuanced as it may be.

I looked up the chestnuts out of the fire thingie and discovered what you must have meant.

It seems that I was pulling your chestnuts out of the fire.

...it means to not to try to solve problems for people who are not looking for answers or solutions

"pull someone's chestnuts out of the fire" = retrieve the situation for someone.

Guilty

I admit I was trying to help you see what abortionist means when it does not mean baby killer. But I see now that you are not interested in that bit of knowledge.

I think it is appalling that someone would call you a baby killer just because you support the right to abortion.

No sorry, I can't believe you were called baby killer if you can't prove it.

I'm sure it will happen again and then, perhaps you will see it.

Well we will just wait because you are sure it will happen again. If you believe it will, I do to. Ping me when it does, OK? You do pings, don't you?

You really DO have all kinds of problems, with the written word; or is it that you don't type what you're thinking?

You managed to get the "chestnuts out of the fire" bollixed up, when attempting to apply it.

And trying to put words in my mouth won't cut it either! Yes, I am against abortion, but there are some circumstances where it is necessary...ectopic pregnancies being a desperate circumstance that requires one.

BTW, Hunter has the same stance as Rudy does, on partial birth abortions...ban them, EXCEPT FOR THE LIFE OF THE MOTHER. Don't tell me that there is no such need; tell that to Hunter, I guess that that makes him and all of his supporters here, abortionists too.

And yes, I do know how to ping people.

My new tagline. Feel free to borrow it as seems fit. I think it really sums up the argument of Rudy's suporters in a nutshell.

See below.

Well the way you right it, yea. But I take my time and can usually tell what you mean.

I do type what I am thinking, but I take a little time to make sure it will be understood by rational people.

You managed to get the "chestnuts out of the fire" bollixed up, when attempting to apply it.

No, nopardons, it was you that created the confuzion, not me. The chestnuts in the fire were yours...in that you spun use of a word to your own purposes.

BTW, Hunter has the same stance as Rudy does, on partial birth abortions

That is patently untrue. You have been corrected on that already:

Posting that lie AGAIN, after being corrected?

Giuliani did NOT support the PBA ban which included a provision for the life of the mother.

Hunter voted FOR the ban, AND believes in the sanctity of life from conception.

I would provide a link but you don't do links.

There are rare exceptions where the life of the mother is in danger. Then and only then (if it is really a fact) I could agree with that provision.

Other causes, I don't think it is called for. Ethyl Waters is one example. Many here would have supported her being killed in the womb.

tell that to Hunter, I guess that that makes him and all of his supporters here, abortionists too.

For those that take all you say as gospel truth, I imagine they would think that. Sad.

Only one definition for abortionist: Baby Killers. I think there are two of you here that still believe that.

If you don't see Hitlary's hand behind all of the nefarious attempts by the 'Toon to curtail our liberties PRE-1994 eelctions, you are a naive man indeed.

She was the ideological driving force behind him.

Blah, blah, blah. I'm still waiting for evidence from you. That's what I asked for, not Kreskin-like visions of hidden agendas.

When you've got something besides whatever's in your mind, ping me back. Until then, live with the fact that you've got NOTHING.
