Wedge Issues Posted by: Common Tator in FreeRepublic.com April 16, 2002
The one thing that amazes me on this site is the belief by some that the conservative position is the majority position.
Mostly people tend to believe it could be the majority position if the right candidate ran, or if it weren't for the media or RINOs or etc, etc. They really don't have a clue.
Roughly 2/3 of the public has firm views. They have made up their minds and do not change them. This group is nearly equally split between the left and the right.
There are about a 1/3 of the population that is never sure. Sometimes it will go left and sometimes it will go right.
When a party restricts itself to its base it will be in a minority party. The "base only" party will be reduced to crying as the other side works its will. In some nations both the left and right restrict themselves to just their base. That nation then develops five or six parties. And all governments in that nation are coalitions of a major party and some of the minor parties. In that situation the minor party always has more influence than its numbers represent. For the Rino and Dino haters that is the worst of all worlds.
Many of Rino and Dino haters try to make ours a 3 or 4 party system. They never figure out that their splinter right or left party would never get much power in a government based on coalitions. They are too small. It is the centrist parties that have a 1/3 of the public as potential members that get the clout in the Multi Party system. As you can see in a 2 party or a 5 or 6 party system the center tends to prevail.
But in our two party system the center is an instrument the major parties use to enact their goals. In the multiparty system it is the center parties that use the right and left to enact their centrist goals. Such a system like those in Italy and France are RINO and DINO paradise.
This nation now and for all of the last 140 years has been roughly 1/3 left, 1/3 right and 1/3 in the middle. Those in the middle who run for office are what we call RINOs and DINOs.
When Republicans drive RINOs out they leave the party to become DINOs and take their political power with them. The Democrat party gets them by default.
Then the Democrats thanks to its Dino buddies have a veto proof house and senate. It was Barry Goldwater's greatest accomplishment. In my BRAIN I knew Barry would elect a lot of DINOs ... and he did.
If a party with most of the center wins the presidency too, they have a filibuster proof senate. That party then can do anything it wants to do. When the party leadership takes control they implement the parties core beliefs. It was what LBJ did after Goldwater drove all the RINOs into LBJ's camp. It let LBJ do the "Great Society." LBJ had to have Barry's help to do it. And Barry did what it took to give LBJ the support he needed... LBJ had all the left. Barry gave him all the center.
To win control a party must keep its base and get over half the middle. If the Republicans have more RINOs than the Democrats have DINOs the Republican agenda prevails. If the Democrats have more DINOs than the Republicans have RINOs the Democrat agenda prevails.
Those that demand the defeat of RINOs are doing all they can to enact the leftist agenda. They are the most valuable asset the left has. One of the most effective tactics in politics in the negative campaign.
Negative campaigns are not about getting votes for your candidate. They are about getting the other side's base to not vote for their candidate. Thus if you can get the right to vote against a Rino or not vote at all, you can elect a very liberal candidate.
If you can force the Republicans to nominate a right wing candidate so right wing he can't get the center voters, you elect the left candidate.
John Cox is what some are hoping is "the Answer". He was a school board member for a couple of years more than a decade ago, and now is a tax reform guy, which is in itself good, btw. He is wanting to be a 3rd party guy like Perot. (LOL)
He will be announcing his candicacy on April 15th.
What EV doesn't tell people is that he sponsors a couple of groups(on line sites), and takes donations. One is a tax reform group out of Idaho, where Cox is... interesting, huh?
Cox has no chance, which, for some reason, is a major attraction. EV is on the record as not supporting Cox, so it will be interesting to see how this goes.
Actually, there is. You have now allowed the fifth columnists to play you for a chump. Thats a first, as I recall, for my time here at FR.
Wish I did. If I was a photoshop person I'd make one.
This is a good one. I'd use this in ads. Anti Rudys can use their own pics, and pay for their own ads. That's how it works.
Given the title of your thread, I think it's rather ironic that you're bitching about being slighted.
It sure would be and probably would mean I won't have to go without sleep on election night waiting to find out who won! I may be able to actually celebrate on election night!
If he's got any brainpower, it was obviously discarded with his ill-advised run for senate in Illinois. I had forgotten about this silly pander: Illinois Republican Senate candidate Alan Keyes recently proposed exempting blacks for a generation or two from paying federal income taxes! from a Larry Elder column.
Amazing that you expect rational people to take you seriously when you claim someone like "Dr. Keyes" (scare quotes intended) is an example of a successful politician, and that you personally know him and can vouch for his "humility" and "brainpower"
FWIW I can't say that I met him, but I did shake his hand @ a local Illinois Republican meeting; and his demeanor like his handshake was just short of off-putting. That year I voted straight pubbie, so speaking as a former voter: No Thanks to "Dr. Keyes."
Your best opportunity to elect a liberal to your liking since Clinton.
Sorry, it doesn't work like that. There's been plenty of back and forth. You created an entire thread based on one member's post (and in addition put in your hateful comments). You let it loose. You knew very well what that would do. Were you free to do it? Of course. But you knew exactly the kind of reaction it would cause. Someone then created an entire thread in response. Big deal.
And the "treason" thing has been explained to death. Sad to see that you still don't get it.
I'm not asking you to support or not support anyone. You are free to do whatever you choose and to be responsible for your choices. I am talking about you and others who are so alienating of those who do not and are not going to agree with you. Why do you even want to come on Rudy threads? There is nothing new ever said by the disruptors. It is just spam and name-calling. And yes, the Rudy supporters are guilty of being disrespectful too. And yet, never to the degree of your side. Not even close. Calling Rudy supporters treasonous liberals is beyond the pale.
In sum. I get it. You don't support Rudy. You never will because he does not pass you basic litmus tests. I get it. How many times do you feel you need to repeat the same thing? And why do you choose to insult those who do support him? I don't think you are as bad as some, btw.
Those who support Rudy are trying to lay claim to the coveted "victim" status. Sadly, many on this site are no different than the advocacy groups they like to deride for reveling in the victim role.
Nice pic of the sub in the Arctic. Did you take it by any chance? Or just serve on one? I'm not sure I could have handled being underwater for 6 months at a shot....especially at 6'5"....
That's what liberals do!
You're supporting Hunter, is that right?
He did. In Napa, to irk the "true conservatives". He deserves the best, I'm not going to look for a pic of the bride.
So then, you're OK with me calling YOU a traitor if you disagree with me?
Well, I am truly sorry about that. Sometimes there are core issues that you just can't dance around. I am shocked that there are so many FReepers who seemingly don't respect the longstanding conservative principles that our party has fought so hard to defend all these years. I'm shocked that so many people would simply throw it all away. I will continue fighting for our traditional American conservative values regardless. I see absolutely no reason to give up the fight.
That thought has occurred to me as well.
EXACTLY!
