New House ~ New Handgun ... any advice?

I'm 90 miles from Cuba and I'm going to purchase a new handgun for a new house.

I'm thinking .45 ... Kimber

I'm open to all opinion and option.

I'm still holding out the thought of a revolver over an automatic for ease of maintenance in the subtropics

These threads are always informative and I would appreaciate your input before I make a final decision.

I'm on a ranch style footprint no more than a two step rise throughout the house .... lots of glass windows and doors behind a high fence and an open cement crossing of at a minimum 15 feet around ... that's huge by Key West standards

the fencing is a double edged sword

I like the weight of the case and bracelet .... I chose it over the 221 for the stainless steel version's brightwork

leather straps ... though I know Paneristi love them .... are just too sweaty in the sub tropics ... and I'm just not ready for sting ray or such ... you're in good company with the 220 ... Men of Steel

v. the titanium PAM 091 (the version sported by Pierce Brosnin sp? in After the Sunset) ... I believe it has since been replaced by the titanium 221

Sigs and Kimbers seem to be the semis of choice here....

I'm thinking the Mossberg pump .. perhaps a marine version because of the salt and humidity down here ... I don't know that a long rifle was in the plan just yet ... my first instinct is that an assault rifle may be ramping up a bit too much

It's just getting a little creepy as every tide brings in wet foot - dry foot lottery players ... and they are not all the poor humble refugees seeking political asylum

Just a few of years ago a Cuban patrol boat pulled up at the Hyatt dock and the defecting militia walked in khakis carrying AK 47s for over ten blocks looking for a cop to surrender.

Now we seem to be getting our share of the violent and desperate .. similar to the Mariel invasion

I would feel foolish if I were flat footed if it gets interesting once the maximum leader attains room temperature

That Taurus .357 in Titanium is suweeet....!!!

If you can find one to look at, you will be amazed that the box of cartridges weighs more than the weapon. I was a bit tentative about recoil at first, but was pleasantly surprised at the great job the "ribber" grip does in absorbing any shock. I rigged up a "budget" shoulder holster for it out of a sheepskin lined gun case and some old shoulder straps from various travel bags. The gun can be rigged to ride inside its sheath or ....if you're out wandering about in the woods...adjusted so the butt hangs out just a tad and the velcro "back strap" I added to the case holds it in. It is SO light you can literally forget its there while you're huckleberry picking or whatever and still rapidly deploy the revolver to discourage critters from horning in on your day's entertainment. The vented barrel does a great job of controlling "muzzle flip"...

The projectiles coming out the front end can be purchased in a hard cast version which will sufficiently perforate your local bear if you so desire.

I'm a fan of Gun Control....use both hands and get 6 of the 7 rounds dead center.

I'm left-handed, so bear with me. I prefer Rugers in .40 cal. They're easy to handle and are ambidextrous(sp?), and they pack a wallup of firepower...

I'm curious about the .357 Sig. Is it as good a round as the .40? I'm sure it's better than the 9mm, because I read an article a couple of years ago in American Rifleman that the Texas Highway Patrol uses it.

The thing that concerns me would be jams because of that bottleneck...
